Then why do other phones take better pictures than the iPhone?
Here is the kicker...they don't...under many circumstances. I've had the opportunity to test the cameras of the IPhone 6SPlus/SE, S7, S7 Edge (essentially the same camera), HTC 10, and iPhone 7 Plus under many different circumstances. I found there is not one clear winner that excels head and shoulders above the others in all the test cases. It's really maddening.

It will make you bonkers. For example one will render reds more accurately but suck at blues and vice versa. One will render beautiful sharp details but the overall exposure is displeasing. On and on...it isn't even a matter of my personal preference over another person's. I can show the same pics to other people and they come away agreeing with me and unable to say emphatically one phone camera is the consistently the best, and consistently dominates all points of comparison.

They all do some great things and they all do some wonky things in about equal measure. The iPhone 7 camera and the Samsung cameras seem just overall a little bit better than the HTC 10 camera in most lighting conditions I have worked with so far.

Yes I know there are loads and loads of You Tube videos and reviews out there that attempt to claim a clear winner. Many are tainted by bias. Many are tainted by the pursuit of support from fan bases. Many are tainted by lack of sufficient test models. (Even with the same model, there can be variances in performance).

I can say as someone who doesn't give a rat's butt and as someone as objective and divorced from fanaticism as it is possible for a human to be, that there's something for everyone in the flagship offerings currently on the market. I'm not trying to be nice here and appeal to all fan bases. This is simply what I discovered just messing around with all the phones I got my hands on this year.

I do wish I had a Pixel phone camera to test. I've read wonderful and not so wonderful things about this phone. Nothing beats hands on experience. I will drool over it from afar. :p

If everybody is being honest, nobody likes a dongle.

So now we have a situation where eventually headphone manufacturers will be making lightning headphones. Bose, Beats etc. Headphones that cost £200-£300 pounds/dollars.

Now these new lightning fit your iPhone/iPad without a dongle (great) but they don't fit your MacBook Pro (fail).

Either have the courage to change your entire line up or don't change anything at all.

A dongle is not the solution. It's fixes a "problem".

Don't forget that every time someone makes a "legit" lightning device, Apple gets a cut. Courage.

I don't know many people that have new Apple products right now, but the two that do also own quite a few dongles that they didn't need before. That's just not progress.

Why are people taking about next years iPhone? It's pretty safe to say NO ONE including any analyst knows what it will be, we've had 7S talk then 7S and an anniversary talk then back to 7S then new iPhone 8 5" and 5.8" then back to the 7S and anniversary phone....

Mostly from the same sources going round in circles. And considering Apple totally ignored the iPods birthday and the Macs, I doubt they'll be making a song and dance about the iPhones. But we'll see.

So far I've seen nothing to get your hopes up about. And considering Apple is still selling millions and millions of iPhones, and even with the Apple Watch sales being poor, they still stuck with the same design. And the fact Cook and Schiller stated on stage the iPhone 7 was a NEW design means a 7S IMO, they didn't speak that marketing talk for no reason:

But we will see, however the arrogance Apple has these days really could mean a fourth year of the same design wrapped up by the marketing department as a new design. So maybe more people will buy Samsung next year?

There's no headphone jack on the watch because no one with an active brain cell would design a tether from wrist to head. It's too stupid to even contemplate. The analogy is bad, really bad.

I disagree. I used cable ear buds for years with my nano on a watch band. Worked great at the gym with the cable run up you sleeve until I finally went to jaybird wireless

Interesting article. Like someone said above, it's clear that the Note 7's owners had already chosen their OS, so it's logical that they buy another Android phone after the Note 7.

I'm a new member and this site is very fascinating, the people here seem to be passionate, specialist,...

I'm still hesitating between the new Mate 9 and the 7+ for my next phone. I have owned a Mate 7 for 2 years but the updates are slow, the interface is often laggy and I really like Apple's ecosystem (I own an iPad and a Mac ; a first iPhone is thus a great choice, isn't it ?).

Apple is never laggy (in the sense of Android being Laggy (when it occurs its usually right after a new yearly update for about 1-2 months and its pretty subtle (though people here whine a lot about it)), that's one of its main selling point. The latest Iphone are fast as heck compared to the competition). Of course, if how much you feel it depends on what you do with your phone.
And they do update their stuff for quite a while.
Iphone's have a high resale value so if you buy it outright (not through a contract with a phone company) you'd at most be out of a fund hundred if you switch because you hate it after a year.

Everything about the iPhone 7 speaks of an experimental device, preparing for a major transition into a massive change. I thought that was clear, but "analysts" haven't mentioned that at all...

1) Water resistance - movement towards an enclosed, "do anything" device
2) Removal of headphone jack - movement towards a truly wireless device (as with charging wirelessly from distance acquisition)
3) Removal of home "button"/use of haptic engine - coupled with integrated Touch ID on MacBook Pro, a movement towards removal of bezels and integrating the home button into the home screen

I can't remember more right now, but this phone speaks to a massive change in iPhones. It isn't it, but it's the first step towards a revolutionary design.

My thoughts exactly! I feel that the media and MR folk aren't appreciating the 7 series for its worth: the culmination of an era in expansion and refinement and more importantly a solid foundation for the future! It's truly amazing how far we come after 10 generations and what will come next

The problem with those tests is all they usually test is static shots, while most shots taken by a smart phone are NOT like that at all. Most are taken under pretty bad conditions, with you moving (because you don't have time to set up the shot), the subject is moving and bad lighting. That's what makes me laughs about testing sites like DXO whose testing methodology is completely opaque and weighting is somewhat arbitrary (they get a lot of flack in testing regular cameras too).

That's one reason I find the whole Pixel assertions absurd (and yes, I got a lot of experience with real world big glass cameras and top end smart phones from Samsung and Apple)

If taking shots of some crazy thing your children are doing just now indoor is your main thing your photographing, time it takes from when you realize you need to take a photo till you actually have taken the shot is most important. Cause who cares if the shot would have been fantastic if you had all the time in the world... You're not getting that.

Apple is very good at focusing at actual user experience and not "techie" checkboxes when engineering a product.

Utter nonsense.
If the iPhone7 had been the exploding product I wouldn't have jumped ship to Android or Samsung.
I'd have kept my existing iPhone and waited for the next update.
[doublepost=1483050778][/doublepost]Looking at the top rated comments on this thread I can't believe people are STILL bleating on about the headphone jack.
It had to go. It went. It was right.
Even Samsung's rumoured to be removing it from their next phone.
AirPods have been a success.
End. Of. Story. Move along now...

Hate to agree, but as someone who has owned every iPhone on day one since the first, this is my first year not getting the new iPhone because there was nothing significant enough about it to warrant a purchase.

Hopefully Apple can step it up next year with an amazing phone, but from the mixed bag of current rumors im not holding my breath.
Maybe you realized you don't need every update like you thought you had in years prior. I'm in the same boat as you but which device do you think was worth the upgrade? 1/3G/3GS/4/4s/5/5s/6/6s if you update every year like I have then you should see you have lost a load of money for very small changes.
I wish I could go back and only get 1/5/6

They removed the headphone jack to make space in a tiny device - the MacBook Pro is considerabley larger than the iPhone.
Then they shall remove the stupid bezel...

Are you saying that I cannot hold an independent thought and I must blindly agree to everything Apple does?

As pointed out, Apple made a statement about how antqiuated the headphone jack is, and yet they included it in the MBP

Beside, I already said the iPhone 7 is a nice phone, my wife has one. I think its good, but I am critical of them removing something that many of us use.

As I stated, I cannot use the iPhone 7, having it charging and listen to music on my headphones - something I do all the time.
And, they have yet to figure out how to make the BT headphones to be in sync with what is being displayed on the screen.
I know that there are some delay, but anyone games on the phone would agree that half second delay is very very annoying.

The Note 7 was THE BEST phone on the planet .The design truly was beautiful and they truly had outmanoeuvred Apple on this one. Apple was on the platter ready for the taking until Samsung messed up
There is no "outmaneuvering" when you crash and burn. Samsung flat out failed in many aspects so no, they did not have a better phone at all. Besides, there hasn't been a revolutionary upgrade in many years for any smartphones. This is a non-story. Now if Apple fails to tempt more Samsung owners next year, that will be a real story.

I'm glad Apple is waiting and taking their time with the redesign. Remember - Apple is never first, but usually always the best.

People get upset over a headphone jack, but not over an exploding phone. And yet people question the values of Apple and not Samsung.

I would argue the dual camera / telescopic zoom is a major feature as the jump in camera quality between the 6s is quite large.

This isn't accurate. In terms of designs they were always first for many consecutive years, but now, the only thing they do first is remove functionality from their devices, then try to make up for it by increasing the price.

So glad the headphone jack is gone

It's made me move to wireless headphones and air pods

No turning back now..wires are annoying trash

NOPE ... it's a legit question or don't you go anywhere?
Wasn't aware flights even have on board entertainment anymore. That said any flights I have gone on the past few years aren't any longer than 2-4 hours so maybe entertainment Is only for super long distances.

I have never watched on board entertainment anyway. No need when I have an iPad if I i wanted to watch something

I went 1/4s/5s/6s. I probably would have skipped the 4s, but my original iPhone touch stopped working. Although, it all worked out, because I loved my 4s.

IMO, the 4s is the most unique and beautiful design out of any of the iPhone designs, or phone designs for that matter. I would still use that design today if it had upgraded internals.

I hope the rumored iPhone 8 is similar to the 4s design.

Joke is on you. You've had wireless functionality well before Apple removed the headphone jack.
Of course but the tech is far better now than it was even a few years ago.

Syncing and connection quailty is very good on my wireless headphones something which clearly hasn't been there in the past.

Sometimes until you are being encouraged to use wireless you don't know what you are missing.
