Ugh. Now I'm stuck in the grey area where I don't want an Android but couldn't care less about these new iPhones. Guess I'm going to have to break down and try this "being happy with what I have" thing for a while.

I'm with you. I'll ultimately wait until they officially announce the next Phone to make a decision. I can see myself sticking with the 7 for the next few years. A new iPhone every year just doesn't excite me like it used to. I could have easily stuck with my 6s for another year or 2, but moved to the 7 because of the upgrade program. Figured I'm paying the same money, might as well have the new phone.

If they only offer OLED and wireless charging on the high end model, it just further cements Apple's apathy towards making a modern smartphone. They know they can get away with mediocre attempts because people buy their phones in droves.

Come on Apple - upgrade the entire damn line. Enough with a bit here and there...
And - there are people who want to carry a phone and not a damn iPad to make phone calls. Keep the smaller one but DON'T make it the foster child and cram all the good stuff into the huge one.
Not everyone is fixated on sizes (hands, crowds, phones).

Scenario A is far more likely, for a number of reasons. Even if they could do Scenario B, why would they? Scenario A is far more logical, and is what I would do if I were the chief.

3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S -> 5 -> 5S -> 6 -> 6S -> 7 -> 8???

Come on people, there's no reason to believe Apple will break the cycle. We're getting a 7S this year, and the 8 is coming next year.

You forgot the iPhone (1st gen) > iPhone 3G. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple skipped the 7s. But I would be surprised if they released another iPhone with a similar design to the 6/6s/7.

Plus having the 7s and 8 released at the same time just introduces brand confusion and I don't think Apple would do that to their most important product.

Scenario A + iPhone SE 2 at WWDC 2017.
Perhaps an iPhone 7SE is what the rumors are suggesting?

I definitely prefer Scenario A. Create an amazing new ultra premium iPhone with a stunning new design, incredible new technologies, and just make it as great as you can and charge whatever you need to make it profitable. I'd pay $2,000 for a truly ultra premium iPhone.
I'm always amazed when people practically _beg_ for higher prices. Heck, why limit yourself to a $2000 phone? Ask for a $1000 rainbow colored dongle set to go with it. Then again, perhaps you were being "tongue in cheek".

I don't see a reason anyone would want to upgrade to an old looking model if they offer 5.8" with all new look and glass case.

Option C - The new iPhone redesign is contingent on Apple being able to source enough OLED displays to outfit all its phones. If this is possible, Apple announces only the new redesigned model. Else, Apple will release the same iPhone 7 form factor with internal updates. The redesign might be marketed as an ultra-high-end and exclusive model, with Apple selling as many as supplies will allow.

I am reminded of the iPhone Pro rumours, which I don't think were really rumours at all. Apple likely had a backup plan in case they couldn't get enough dual-camera modules - which was the iPhone 7, iphone 7+ without dual camera module, and iPhone Pro with dual camera module. But Apple somehow managed to procure sufficient quantities of the dual camera module at the last minute, and so the iPhone Pro effectively became the iphone Plus.

I really do wonder how a meeting with Tim Cook discussing how many iPhones will be released next year go.

If they only do the glass and wireless charging on only the starting at $1k model (iPhone Pro?), it would be a big mistep IMHO - few would have any reason to upgrade to a 7s from a 6s or 7.

I don't see a reason anyone would want to upgrade to an old looking model if they offer 5.8" with all new look and glass case.
The 1st gen of any newly redesigned Apple product usually has some design flaw. People who don't wish to become beta testers might decide to opt for an older but more "proven" design.

I have no problem with this, I think offering the 7s and the 8 will give people more choice, not only that those who don't want to spend £1000 or more on the iPhone 8 can get an updated 7S, makes sense.

I can't wait for it guys!

I mean, I'm still enjoying my iPhone 7 Pro from last year with the Smart Connector and Dual Camera. We should totally trust does rumors even when we get pics. I mean, last year we got pics with 3 iPhone models as well in late August: a normal 7, 7 Plus and 7 Pro and those turned out to be true didn't they?

All the big rumor sites said that we would get 3 iPhone models: a normal 7 and 7 Plus with basically the same features with a new "deep blue" color option and a super high end iPhone 7 Pro which sports the dual camera setup and a smart connector and would cost significantly more! Oh and don't forget that they said that the Pro model would get a black glass design, which totally did not turn out to be a glossy brushed aluminium design...

A few days ago it was a new 5" size. Now it's 5.8". Someone needs to vet their rumors better, but then again, that's always been true when it comes to Digitimes.

I would definitely be surprised if they skipped the 7S. The pattern has been very predictable for many years now, and skipping the 7S would go against the grain.

How's that updated 4" phone coming along, Apple? I got a wad of cash here set aside for you. Just let me know when you want it.

I would love to see an updated iPhone SE that takes the design from the iPhone6 line

I've thought about that too (have an SE myself), but it would probably reduce the battery capacity rather significantly. I think I'd rather them keep the same form factor (and big battery volume of the SE) and give us even larger battery capacity (that increases over time in the volume) so we can enhance further the already great battery life the SE has. JMHO....
