3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S -> 5 -> 5S -> 6 -> 6S -> 7 -> 8???

Come on people, there's no reason to believe Apple will break the cycle. We're getting a 7S this year, and the 8 is coming next year.

I don't know about that, I think we could see the iPhone 8. Apple also never released the same phone four years in a row before.

I guess 7 and 7s does sounds better than the 3G -> 3GS -> 4 -> 4S -> 5 -> 5S -> 6 -> 6S -> 6SS -> 6SSS

I've thought about that too (have an SE myself), but it would probably reduce the battery capacity rather significantly. I think I'd rather them keep the same form factor (and big battery volume of the SE) and give us even larger battery capacity (that increases over time in the volume) so we can enhance further the already great battery life the SE has. JMHO....

True battery is so far fantastic on my SE. Maybe with the A10 or A11 a smaller battery could be ok. Actually even better would be a 5" phone with the same outside dimensions meaning no bezels. A larger screen would be appreciated as long as the outside dimensions stay small(er).

LOL, please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this article basically just rehashing the rumors that have already been posted? I swear... If I hear that the best or maybe all new iPhones may or may not have wireless charging, OLED displays, edge-to-edge displays again...

Other rumored features for this year's iPhone lineup, some of which may be exclusive to the high-end model, include the removal of the Home button, iris or facial recognition, 3D camera features, improved IP68-rated water resistance, increased storage space, and new Taptic Engine and 3D Touch modules.

blah blah blah.... Apple will add 2 of these at most. This time of the year the rumor mill is churning hard but once september rolls around everyone realizes Apple is not in to revolutionary releases with tons of new features... they drip out features little by little, I dont know how many times in a row this has to happen before people stop getting their hopes up like this.

It doesn't make any sense to release a iPhone 7s and an iPhone 8 at the same time. The latest iPhone series is always seen as the most premium models you can buy. If you give the consumer the impression that a brand new 7s is already a generation behind the new (and vastly more expensive) 8, then that's damaging the brand.

I honestly expect to see an all-new iPhone, in two sizes, maybe even three (4.7 & 5.5 and perhaps a 5.8 no bezel OLED higher-end option). Or just two very premium OLED 4.7 & 5.5 options.

OLED screen and wireless charging. Android has had those features for some time now. Android also had facial recognition a few generations back and Windows 10 notebooks have it now. Come on Apple, innovate! What I wish Apple would do is update the dated IOS interface, which doesn't look a whole lot different than the first generation. But I'm not holding my breath.

So it's like an S7 Edge, only much much later.

Why should OLED cost $1000? Samsung is putting OLED in mid tier phones.

Well, because just like LCD screens, they are not all created equally. I've seen plenty of Shamesung phones with OLED screens that look like total crap.

Shamesung is also willing to trim their margins in the race to the bottom; Apple doesn't do that so they can remain profitable and keep quality high.

This. In addition, if apple does release an all glass front and rear iPhone, I will hold off buying and let other folks experiment and post their results concerning breakage.

I definitely prefer Scenario A. Create an amazing new ultra premium iPhone with a stunning new design, incredible new technologies, and just make it as great as you can and charge whatever you need to make it profitable. I'd pay $2,000 for a truly ultra premium iPhone.
They would not sell at that price. Let alone $1000usd (I'm in Australia and my jet black iPhone cost $1229)
Raising prices is just not good for anyone... smh

I hope they go with "scenario B"

But seriously I bet there won't be a third iPhone, there will be only two sizes, 5" (with existing 4.7" form size) and 5.8" (with the existing 5.5" form size)... And both will have the same feature, except the big one, as usual, will feature something special.

This is the only way I see it playing out. Except the new naming convention will start naming them after plants/

I had an SE, just upgraded to a 7 (4.7") and the battery destroys it

This is the big anniversary year though. If they were going to change it up, this would be the year to do it.

This, also Apple have stuck with the same design for longer than usual. My guess is different design this year along with OLED reduced bezels, I'm not so sure about the facial recognition thing I think that could be added next year with the 8s or whatever naming system they go with. Also it's the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year, their most popular and best selling product, i really don't see them missing that opportunity.

I vote for scenario B, all the sizes have the new glass and edge to edge design.

Why just upgrade to what I basically already have?

I purchased the iPhone 6 and the newest features of the 6s - 7(possibly s) aren't compelling enough to upgrade.

You've more money than sense then.

iPhone original --> 3G (reference to network) --> 3Gs --> 4 (now a version number)

the numbering system isn't sacred. And this doesn't go into the iPad version number then "New iPad" then "Air" etc... or all the ways in which various Mac models have been identified.

So, unless the iP8 has a significant upcharge, how many people will opt for a rehashed 7S?
If the iP8 is prohibitively expensive will people still buy it? Will it be niche product which would limit sales? On the other hand, maybe folks won't care about an $10 to 15 per month increase ($240-360 over the course of 24 month financing).

Apple needs to hit the sweet spot with their product line. Something affordable but still including good technology and features. Something feature rich and very mainstream for the masses. Their "premier" product which is "best in class" for those who want or need the best.

Apple has demonstrated time and again that there is a significant segment who will pay a premium for a real or perceived superior product.

Whatever it is, I'm down. Every small upgrade in every year has been welcomed on my end. Can't put a price on something thats used daily to manage business and pleasure!
