Getting rid of it, is the point. Single-purpose data ports are an insult to the essence of a multi-purpose computer. All non-universal ports got to die and reactionary users with them. Apple will live in the future, if you all follow or not.

Tell that to someone who needs to do two things at once, mainly charge and play music in the car.

Dual speakers on one edge of the phone wouldn't be any different than just having one speaker anyway.

Yes, but one issue I often have is the way I hold my phone I tend to block the speaker with my hand, if it was on both sides this wouldn't happen - but other than it being louder that's probably the only useful use case.

That's an aftermarket job. And a bad one, hope that is not your car, you don't buy an AMG and slap that crap on ;)
Fair enough.

What about this one?
(I still remember my puzzled face looking at this :D)

That's not OEM. It looks like a crappy welding job on the left where the muffler is attached to it, and that bracket with the exposed bolt sticking out in the middle is too exposed to not be an add-on.

Ok... Since you missed my point, how about this one?

and does it not look cheap? its the same WTF if apple does it for cosmetic purposes, i.e. we expect apple to be better than this. The iPhone is the most premium priced handset on the market.

So, they're replacing the headphone jack with design symmetry that literally does nothing.

It's crap like this that makes me wish I wasn't so invested in the Apple ecosystem so I could leave it all behind.

its not a big issue for me, I'm invested heavily into apple for the next 4-5 years as the hardware I have is great, though after such time, I will not be replacing it with this penny pinching crap, the way I see it, it will be a slow transition over many years to leave the ecosystem. Starting with my next phone, a few years down the track, as my iPhone 6S Plus will last me a while.

I just refuse to pay premium prices for hardware that I no longer consider to be premium, but driven by absolute profits, and designed not for me, but to bank apple the most money. Pre 2014 Apple hardware was best in class for me.

Because it's not about space, it's about adding DRM.

Its actually MFi

Increased profits due to lighting port, hence why apple will never use USB-C on the iPhone.

I love this post!
[doublepost=1471047241][/doublepost]I don't believe for a moment that they would take away the headphone jack and not add another speaker. It's amazing the reaction this sketchy piece of info has had.

It's quite amusing reading comments from people trying so hard to justify the current rumors as a net positive. :D

It's like watching a video of someone running into a glass door or a wall, over and over and over. :p:D
I'm not justifying,
Right, and while they're at it get rid of the microphone.
Talking on the phone is so, like, 20th century.
Texting and emojis are the way forward. :apple::);):apple:
Plus Tim will save like a dollar, so there's that.

A phone that still sends text messages? why even have cellular service, make it a Wi-fi only, i mean this is 2016. and for the exclusive wi-fi only, should be starting at $949 of course. everybody uses social media to talk anyway.

I understand your frustrations. I too am heavily invested in their hardware and ecosystem. These articles mean nothing to me until confirmed by Apple. Some of these articles are likely accurate, this particular article I don't believe.

Either way, if the second speaker grill is functional or not, Apple will have to correlate on either the 3.5 Jack or second speaker, which is it? If the second speaker is functional, then surely they will explain to the audience on how Rich the sound will be in quality.

The ball is in their court.

This doesn't count as a good example. Usually automakers make 1 bumper for both 4 cylinders and 6 cylinder cars. The 4 cylinder would have 1 exhaust and the fake one on the other side. The 6 cylinder will have dual exhaust.

This won't be proved one way or another until they announce the new iPhone. If there is not a second speaker, then I simply will not buy the new iPhone without an 3.5 mil audio jack. I'll continue to dabble in Android devices that have great stereo speakers like the Moto X Pure Edition that cost me $250 unlocked at Best Buy last month !!

I am so disappointed ... I still got an iPhone 5S and skipped the 6S just because I absolutely hated and still hate its design and was looking forward to a new design being introduced with the iPhone 7... well, they actually managed to make the design even worse...
Well done Apple.
And with those new rumors (no headphone jack being replaced with "air") it's all a catastrophe.
I desperately need a new phone and actually love Apple and their products but this iPhone 7... killing me right now....:(

Nothing new here.
Even cars have dual exhaust exits but only one with an actual exhaust pipe...

Age of the looks fellas...

I really hope you're joking... That is not a C63 AMG. Someone put a fake exhaust pipe and badge on what is actually a C250. It's cute but definitely not how they come out of the factory.

This is what the real layout of the exhaust looks like in the actual C63 AMG. You can clearly see there's no 'extras' going on under there.

Removing a hole as a feature, and filling it up with emptiness? Now, that is interesting.

How Tim spins everything next month, explaining why they felt compelled to continue with a two-year-old design, why people don't need a headphone jack anymore, why the Plus/Pro model gets a significantly better camera, why placing fake speaker holes was necessary for the design (that explanation may come at a later time), etc. will really be interesting.

Head phone jack is not a data port. It's a "port" for analog signal. Nothing wrong with that (as long as our ears stay analog which they will forever).

... What everyone is missing is that the real advantage of Apple products is the simplicity of setting up an ecosystem where all of the machines that are supposed to make your work and life easier actually do that. It's in the way they seamlessly work together, the ease of use, simplicity of tasks, freedom of organization that they provide the user, not the me-too gimmicks of the mediocre.

What road blocks are there in using an Android device with a MacBook pro?

What road blocks are there in using an Android device with a MacBook pro?

I have been testing a note 4 for a couple of weeks. It has no plan associated with it so I have only been using it on wi-fi but I wanted to see what would happen if I switched to android.

I havent really found any issues. I really like that I dont need to use photos to get my pictures off. Although I am not a fan of itunes, I do like how you can back up and restore pretty easily. I have not figured out how to do that on android (havent really tried either). All the apps that I normally use were available on android, although some of them i had to pay for again.

It works fine with my mac book pro. I will miss facetime, but I think if everyone uses my email address instead of my phone number I'll still be able to use it on my macbook.

If you use iCloud or any of the photo sharing stuff it might not work that smoothly (if at all) but I dont use any of that. I use a pebble watch and that had no issues switching to android.

I find the android UI very cluttered, but if I knew how to use it I could probably de-clutter it. I also am very used to swiping down on ios to search for an app. On android I have only figured out how to do a google search which shows some google results along with my app so I have to scroll past a bunch of junk i dont need. Again probably because I just dont know what i am doing

I have a 6 plus now and am ready to upgrade. I am in the headphone while charging camp, so if all the rumors are true I will get the note 7. I have not found any real negative issues regarding android based on my use to make me stay. But how I use my phone may not be the same as how you use it!

Apple owes you an iPhone for free.

Pathetic excuses like this supplied by Apple’s worshippers enables the Cupertino Co to sell crap that other smartphone makers couldn't dream of selling.

Apple's psychological influence over the faithful is a testimony to the power they possess.
