Being how upset Apple's shareholders and consumers are currently with the product line and iPhone slump. I think this keynote will be one of the most anticipated, again, not for the product line, but the changes or lack of to the product line. For example, what to expect with the the new iPhone? Is the iconic headphone Jack deleted? If the Jack is deleted, how does Apple remedy the alteration? Adapter provided? Any MacBook Pro updates?

I think it will be a tuned in event for sure, mostly those looking to see what Apple's play will be. And you have to remember, the September iPhone Key Note is a major worldwide event that draws a large viewing audience.

I see your point, might gets lots of people tunning in, not cause they are happy, but because they want to see apple's spin on the current state of affairs.

The only reason I'd tune in, is to hear the lame excuse on why I no longer need a 3.5mm jack, but honestly , this time round it's not worth me wasting 2 hours on it, just really not excited about the new iPhone for the first time since 2007.

I agree, I'm not really excited either at this point, but I am leaving the SE back to the 4.7 iPhone 7. I doubt Apple will even discuss the 3.5 Jack being deleted, if a second speaker is in place, I am sure Schiller will say how 'Rich' the sound is emanating from the speakers.

I will be interested on the headphone part.

Time and time and time and time again, I hear, for Apple it's about usability/ease of use etc, it's NOT about specs.

When other makes/brands talk about, and show off about spec they get slammed for doing so.

Hence I am going to be very interested to hear, how the change to the headphone jack is going to be GOOD for usability as opposed to them trying to use SPECS (which we have all agree'd apple is not about) to give the reason for the change.

"Welcome...welcome...thank you...thankkkkkk yoooouu! As you can see...we got an AMAZING product for you....just for you...yeah you...and you....AMAAAAZZZING."

A cringe statement from Tim....if he says it again.

So why tf did they remove the headphone jack???
Because Tim was going deaf.

Not really, a couple are just straight out fake, Lexus and Merc, there's a few manufacturers who do this without a option for a real exhaust regardless of the engine option.
They all do the same with intake vents too, it's for symmetry and looks, I guess it's not important, kinda the same as chrome plated plastic and polyvinyl leather. Not that I'm arguing with you, but this is done for aesthetic reasons.

I have no problem if Apple do something for aesthetic appeal over functionality, it's not like they haven't before.
I think we have different definitions for "fake". What I mean is yes many manufacturers uses fake tips, but behind those fake tips is an actual exhaust. However behind Apple grill is no speaker (rumour). Hence where the difference lies for me.

Intake vents is a different story. Those are definitely faked.

I have no problem with symmetry and if apple wants to put a grill with no speaker. However removing the headphone jack without adding something else would be quite upsetting. Removing the head phone jack is already upsetting as it is. ( I know this is a matter of opinion since some people are FOR the removal of it).

More volume, less distortion, potential for wider bandwidth (more "bass" or at least more low midrange for a fuller sound).

You won't get more bass or a fuller sound in speakers that small and an enclosure that thin - certainly nothing notable. The increase in volume will be imperceivable. The only real purpose of having two speakers is to give a stereo image, something not possible when they're two inches apart.

I actually admire Apple to making it look good without tricking people by actually putting in two speakers.

That hideous camera bump, though... that's a whole other thing.

People still panicking over this story where it says it may not have duel speakers? Why? When more people have said it will.

Nah - physically you don't get much gain from two speakers in the same size space but, as long as the amplifier power is sufficient, spreading the load can enable you to use stronger EQ for a better sound. It's a lot less strain for two drive units to handle the same volume as one puts out. You'll definitely get a noticeable volume gain - not double but certainly more, subjectively about 25% or so I'd guess but it's not easy to quantify due to the way decibels work and variables of not knowing amp output or potential changes to it...

The camera situation has been handled better by pretty much every other OEM, Apple have gone from leading design in the 3G-5S to probably being behind half a dozen other companies, including the big Chinese brands now!

and does it not look cheap? its the same WTF if apple does it for cosmetic purposes, i.e. we expect apple to be better than this. The iPhone is the most premium priced handset on the market.

Whilst the iPhone could be considered to be expensing, it is a long long long long long way off being a premium priced handset. It's bought by the masses, the premium handsets are made by people like Vurtu and cost thousands, or those stupid gold plated diamond encrusted iPhones you can buy for tens or hundreds of thousands. The real premium mobile phone market is massively different to the iPhone market.

its not a big issue for me, I'm invested heavily into apple for the next 4-5 years as the hardware I have is great, though after such time, I will not be replacing it with this penny pinching crap, the way I see it, it will be a slow transition over many years to leave the ecosystem. Starting with my next phone, a few years down the track, as my iPhone 6S Plus will last me a while.

I just refuse to pay premium prices for hardware that I no longer consider to be premium, but driven by absolute profits, and designed not for me, but to bank apple the most money. Pre 2014 Apple hardware was best in class for me.

I feel like I should be saying congratulations on waking up to the real world? Apple has NEVER done anything that's not been for maximum profit, ever. It's like when they redesigned the iMac, by dumping the optical drive and making it pointlessly thin ruining it's thermals, Apple will have saved on material costs as theirs less of it in the new case. They really had no reason to make a desktop computer millimetres thin.

As for this story, people were mentioning the iPhone 4, but with that the microphone was behind one grill and the speaker the other. This story seems to indicate the holes would be there for nothing, no microphone, just cosmetic looks and to save Apple money.

The ratio of actual MacRumors forum members to competitors' fans and shills has reached an all time low. The name of the forum can soon be changed to MacHaters and it will be supported by the majority of visitors to the site.

Maybe Macs won't exist for that much longer anyway...

The sentiment around here has certainly become a lot more negative and acerbic of late. Wonder if this is because of a lot of Mac users stubbornly clinging on to memories of a long-bygone age.

Times have changed, and Apple has changed with the times as well, but it seems that quite a few users have refused to move on and are still stuck in the past.

Shame really.

People still panicking over this story where it says it may not have duel speakers? Why? When more people have said it will.
People are not panicking. They are angry because everyone's fav headphone jack is being dropped for fluffy holes with no utility.

The iPhone 7 Pro will have stereo.
In this age of PROness, a single PRO is not going to cut it. They would need to rename it to iPhone 7 Pro Pro Pro for me to take notice. I would happily pay 300$ extra for it.

People were angry when they dropped the floppy disk, people were angry when they dropped the DVD drive, people were angry when they dropped the 30 pin connector. Reading from history, those people will get over it, just like they did with all those other times.

Floppy disk became outdated due to storage size...

DVD drive became outdated due to storage size vs Portable hard drives and USB sticks...

30-Pin to lightning connector change upset some people because they had docks etc, but the change was for the good in the long run to a better, faster, smaller connector.

Removing 3.5mm jack has no replacement, using lightning port will mean no charging and using headphones concurrently, using Bluetooth means having to charge headphones - both are inconveniences. Neither improves the customer experience. Neither is better than the technology being removed. There's a difference.

3.5mm headphone jack is not technology. It's a useless 20+ year old connector. Technology is what will be used to replace it, either lighting with DAC or Bluetooth headphones. And who's to say that they won't introduce a lightning adapter where you are able to charge the phone and listen through headphones at the same time?

If they don't, I think it will be an inconvenience, but people will eventually learn to accept it, along with the other changes they have made over the years. Unless you'd rather us all be on iPhone 3G's.

I am mildly excited for the new phone, especially if there is a dual camera option and a 256gb storage option. Then I can finally move away from having a separate phone and iPod. All my music listening is done in the car, and I already have a short lightning to usb adapter in my car.

People certainly don't like change, but in the technology world, things are changing very rapidly. By the time Apple goes through a full production cycle, the phone is already outdated and there is much better technology out there. Which is why there are phones with much better specs that have been released since the 6S. Apple needs to speed up their R&D and production and bring phones to market a lot quicker. I don't think people will be happy with only one or two new phones a year anymore. Just look at how long there have been rumors for this new phone, and it isn't coming out for another month.

Bring back the 30 pin connector!! Every 30 pin cable I have still works. With lightning cables like 1 in 5 works and I have to jiggle those around to get it to stay connected

This may sound like sarcasm but it's not: is there actually any benefit to having two speakers that close together?
One big benefit is that you wouldn't cover it with your hand while playing a video or a game (at least not so easily).
