No kidding, I'm still using a 2012 model that I added a second drive to myself, plus the non soldered RAM that I was able to max out.

I actually wanted the single drive model to upgrade myself but they were selling out of the refurb store in minutes every time a batch showed up. I even signed up with refurb.me to try and get one. When I finally saw a server model in stock, I just bought it before I missed out completely. If I had to spend the extra money, I'd have rather it gone for the CPU upgrade, but I took what I could get. I did put an after-market 16 gig into it though.

Nothing new here.
Even cars have dual exhaust exits but only one with an actual exhaust pipe...

Age of the looks fellas...

That's because it's probably a "cheap" (For a benz) C200 or something. And the owner decided that adding an AMG badge and muffler tip will make it a C63 and save him some money.
Kinda like if you paint the iPhone 6 rose gold and call it a 6S I guess.

Let's not assume Apple removed the headphone jack and gave us nothing just yet, everything is still rumor now so hold on to your pitchforks folks! We got less than a month left!

"... the tentatively named iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus..." Since you are guessing what apple will call it, you mean "speculatively." If its name were up to you, but you haven't made the final decision, it would be "tentative." You/we are speculating about the name.

I'll call myself pedantic before anybody else does. It's just that I keep seeing this and I let it get to me.

That is some very wild speculation (no criticism intended, this is a rumor forum after all), that Apple could give a very tiny increase to the battery size.

I would love a larger battery, but the difference is far too insignificant to compensate for the lost functionality. *if* that's even what Apple would do.

And let's not forget the Note 7 still has a larger screen than the iPhone 6s+ in a smaller and lighter package than the iPhone and still manages to have a larger battery. And a headphone jack. And it's waterproof.

Well since you brought it up, you might just be the person to ask:

So the Note 7 is smaller in every dimension, lighter weight, includes a larger screen, a higher resolution screen that is better in every way the the iPhone, and is spec for spec equivalents, has identical battery life, or better, and the same or better benchmarks running identical applications, 100% parity in features and in every other way, except the Note 7 has in addition, a headphone jack and is waterproof? I didn't realize the Note 7 had 3D Touch, or a taptic engine.

Maybe you could do up a direct comparison chart showing exactly how the Note 7 beats or surpasses the iPhone 6s in every way, as well as includes additional features.

If that's true, then you may have a point. Of course it also needs to account for whatever new technology Apple brings to the next iPhone in place of the headphone jack as well, but since we don't know what that is, a direct comparison between the current model will certainly go a long way toward making your point.

They should make a bigger, more enhanced speaker instead of two smaller ones.

And by the way, Apple would never put speaker grill holes just for show. At least not until Jony leaves.

This was obvious if you knew anything about the size of iPhones speakers.

But it could be used for speaker or microphone enhancement.

True. Multiple mics for noise cancellation? Better voice recognition capabilities?

Absolutely. It will sound better. Everyone is getting caught up with separation and stereo. Of course it's not about that with phones. But having 2 speakers will make listening experience twice as good as it is now. The iPad pro with 4 speakers sounds so much better then the iPad with 2. I will be pissed if the new grill holes are only for aesthetics. Wake up Apple!

Technically you may be correct, but you really need to define "better". The iPhone speakers can only be described by various degrees of bad and mediocre. And no, two speakers will not make the experience "twice as good". So you're suggesting the iPad Pro sounds 4 times as good as the iPad with 2 speakers? Did you consider part of that equation might be the additional space inside the case to accommodate larger resonating chambers and speakers? Not to mention a larger batter to power a more powerful amp?

Wow. I didn't know it got that crazy. I bought mine in 2013 so I was in before the frenzy.

i think on the picture they are talking about the secondary microphone (refer to IH11 on the pic)
the one located next to the rear camera.
if you notice the supposed secondary speaker is marked with B1 in the pic, and the secondary microphone is marked with H11.

Not denying any of that. Just that the "lost functionality" isn't as big a deal as some make it out to be. The one thing lost IMO is being able to simultaneously charge and listen to wired headphones. But wireless headphones is where the market is going anyway. An audiophile? Buy the $20 adapter to use your $800 headphones.

By making the phone slightly thicker or tapering the design to allow the lens to be flush. Would also allow more space for a large battery or other technology improvements, like extra speakers or a headphone jack for example.

Pretty sure the market has spoken that thicker phones don't sell.

so the left speaker grill is like the red racing stripes people put on cars...

I doubt it's "ornamental". It probably has an effect on acoustics. That's like calling a bass reflex port "ornamental".
To have an effects on acoustics it would take more space than putting a second speaker

What market? where?

To be clear, he note 7 is 0.6mm thicker than the iPhone 6s+. It's significantly smaller along the other 2 dimensions though.

The spec for spec nonsense is something fanboys have been using to justify their koolaid for a decade. Computer X can beat the Mac 99 out of 100 ways and you'll hold that 100th up to "prove" the mac is better. Or that 100th will cost so much to add to the PC it brings the PC into Apple's price range and "proves" Macs aren't overpriced.

The Note 7 also isn't "retina" so I guess iPhone wins there. Even though its 518 ppi compared to iPhone's 401 ppi screen.

I have yet to see anyone even here explain why 3D Touch or a taptiic engine (both marketing terms like "retina") are useful. 3D touch is a clunky UI thing that makes previously easy things harder. That's why no dev besides Apple actually uses it, it spoils a clean interface. And "taptic engine" is just Apple marketing-speak for a shorter duration vibration motor. It's not even a feature worth mentioning expect iPhone has so little.

Anyway, so you lose 3D Touch and a "taptic engine" (rofl). You gain the always on display which gives it some pretty impressive features in terms of notifications, news ticker, etc. You have a 1440p AMOLED screen instead of Apple's 1080p LCD. You gain a microSD slot and 64 gig of base memory. And it even comes in blue :).

Note 7 includes a stylus. Even if the next iPhone will support Apple's stylus (which they have to call a pencil to prove it's different -- what brilliant marketing) it will be a $100 option with no place to dock.

Maybe you could do up a direct comparison chart showing exactly how the Note 7 beats or surpasses the iPhone 6s in every way, as well as includes additional features.

Well the lack of a "taptic engine" (rofl) is something I would call a feature but you apparently wouldn't.

If that's true, then you may have a point. Of course it also needs to account for whatever new technology Apple brings to the next iPhone in place of the headphone jack as well, but since we don't know what that is, a direct comparison between the current model will certainly go a long way toward making your point.

When you're playing the game of garbage like a "taptic engine" (rofl) meaning the other product is not superior in every way you're just trying to bury any meaningful comparison.

So why don't you tell me how a "taptic engine" (rofl) compensates for the crappy screen, gigantic bezels, and lack of headphone jack?

If only there was something thing could put where the fake speaker holes are, like, I don't know, a 3.5 mm audio jack? Nah, that would be crazy talk...

For all those bemoaning the loss of 3.5mm jack, wireless headphones have over taken wired headphones in revenue for the first time in June. 54% to 46% of all sales dollars...a 42% year over year increase. While only 17% of unit sales, the writing is on the wall. Headphone and earpiece

It seems to me that you just glossed over the most important part of your statement. Wireless account for only 17% of sales. I'm drawn to traditional wired earbuds/pods for two reasons. First, they are lighter, and thus simply more comfortable for me. Secondly, there's never a concern about needing them when I've forgotten to recharge them.

Regarding your statistic of wireless sales overtaking wired, that's explained simply by the fact that quality wireless headphones can run 7-10 times what earpods do. I use my headphones mostly for exercising. I don't need or want the bulk or a battery, or the expense of wireless headphones for something that I'm throwing in my backpack or sweating over while running.

Now I have a nice pair of Sennheiser Momentum's that I love when traveling or just sitting inside listening to music, but for activity, it'd much prefer my earpods. I know others that love wireless when active, too, but I think the move to take away the 3.5mm jack is a poor decision at this point. I know it definitely impacts my future purchases.

Sorry, nice try Steve. Despite your prediction when the iPhone came out,

Apple's iPhone has hit the BILLION mark. Better get back to your basketball team.

That's simply a misnomer. The scoffing at the iPhone came from people who simply couldn't see the possibility of having a phone that could do what the iPhone does. IMO, there is a huge difference between people not having the vision to see the possibilities in the progression of innovation vs people not happy with a product that appears to be undergoing regression or a retardation in the innovative process.
