The iPhone 4 also had a microphone disguised as a speaker grill

Hopefully something like that. I think the holes will be drilled through but in a later process so I think it'll be for microphones.True. Multiple mics for noise cancellation? Better voice recognition capabilities?
It didn't have 2 speakers, it only had one and the other was a mic disguised as a speaker.I used to have this model a few years ago and upgraded to 5C and now the 6 Plus when it first came out.
You're right that the iPhone 4 has two speakers and had a 3.5 jack on top of it. I'm wondering if that's exactly what they're doing? So people might have a choice of using 3.5 on top or use the Lightning for BT at the bottom.
My original iPod had that as well until iPod touch had the jack at the bottom.
All these slams on Apple, and, to think that this is merely a rumor right now.
THANK you. been sifting through pages of comments to see if somebody actually knew anything about cars, cringing at people bringing up the CLK as if it looks at all like one. you sir, know something.

Unless they used it to split frequenciesDual speakers on one edge of the phone wouldn't be any different than just having one speaker anyway.
Apple is trying to sell as many Galaxy Note 7s as much as possible
I advise taking a look at my earlier post: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-purely-cosmetic.1987693/page-6#post-23232016
That is absolutely pathetic Apple! WTF is the point in removing the much used headphone jack then?
Apple is not drilling holes for cosmetics. There is a purpose if not to house another speaker but for some type of acoustic purpose.
What does Steve Ballmer have to do with my comment? I simply implied Apple is trashing the iPhone. As a result, Samsung's offering is appealing from a hardware perspective.Sorry, nice try Steve. Despite your prediction when the iPhone came out,
Apple's iPhone has hit the BILLION mark. Better get back to your basketball team.
It's more like, you take a pig, put lipstick on it. It looks great. Then, you let it out and it runs to the nearest pool of mud to jump into. That's called Android.Hardware is hardware. And some of what Samsung is doing there these days is impressive. But at the end of the day it's still running Android. Lipstick on a pig.
It's because it SHOULD NOT be waterproofMore holes = better ventilation![]()
