Similar performance and a lot cheaper?

My 6S Plus as zero problems with performance in apps. And that's even cheaper still. What is your point?

At the end of the day, you're just opening apps and closing them. Most of these apps don't require the A11.

Apple could have AT LEAST give the smaller iPhone 8 a 1080p screen, especially with that $50 price increase.

Rumors say that 7 is outselling the 8. Makes sense to me, I don't get 8 existence at all if 7 is still being sold.

I'm buying a 7 before they go up in price from shortages. The only thing the 8 seems to offer is a higher price.

I won't be buying again until iPhone XI comes out, the return of Touch ID.

If Samsung was smart, they'd use the clip of Federighi saying "Ho Ho Ho" when Face ID fails this Christmas. :D

Especially if you would be going for the 8 Plus, the X isn't that much more. Really the regular 8, because of its significantly lower price than the X, is the only one that makes much sense (thats if they could make all the X's they wanted - which they supposedly won't because Samsung will only give them so many displays).

Could also be that folks are are looking at their 6's, 6s's and 7's and thinking they can just keep using them a while longer - my wife chose this - didn't want the hassle of upgrading (and I make that hassle pretty mild). Other than raised prices and wireless charging (form factor and face unlocking on the X) the new phones don't have alot of things that would radically affect users on a day to day basis - smartphone tech is getting mature.

The X is only $200 more than the 8 Plus. Now with monthly payment plans it's minor cost difference each month. This is not a surprise at all...

But your only getting 64GB for the lower priced iPhone X. Thats quite a difference in storage, especially if you actually use than space for photos, movies and what not.

I'm just hoping there isn't a huge delay with the Apple yearly plan. Fingers crossed we get to order at midnight too.

The iPhone 8 exists because they were unable to deliver on the X at the time of the "regular" announcement. That would have been a complete mess if they held the event with nothing to say but "we may be ably to deliver a limited number of new iPhones in November-ish..." They had to have a product to go with the event and the 8 fit that bill.

Now that they have better clarity on the ability to produce and deliver the X, the 8 is no longer necessary.

That 1.5% drop today is noise. The shares are up considerably more than that since the last iPhone event.

Once the X's start hitting the street this will all be forgotten.

FWIW

I doubt Apple produced the iPhone 8 simply to fill the gap between September to November. That's an awful lot of effort to fill 2 months of sales. They'd rather make the iPhone X announcement in September or October and have it ready for release in November rather than bring out a new device just to fill in the gap. I'd say the release of the iPhone 8 is more to do with having an iPhone that is in line with existing price points rather than only releasing the iPhone X which will only attract a limited number of customers due to its price.

I'm seriously contemplating the iPhone X since I will now be able to afford it. But, I'm torn between it and the iPhone 8 Plus. I'm thinking of buying both. I would sell my 6s, switch the chip to the X and move my Nokia 321 (which is hardly keeping a charge to the Plus. Honestly can't wait until next year for the Plus version of the X.

Every one I have spoken to is not bothered about the iPhone 8. They all either see it as a 7 or 6 depending on their current phone. They are given absolutely no reason to upgrade and with the inflated price they are not too happy with Apple either.

Saying that, no one really seems excited about the X. Given the price I think a lot of them are not even considering it as a possible purchase. In fact no one seems remotely interested and instead see upgrading as an annoying and expensive activity they could do without.

The only reason the iPhone 6 is going out of date is that the phones battery is dying, from a release to current date situation, and you shouldnt need to spend £1000 to get a new battery.

Considering that many users will finance their device through Apple or their carrier, or are participating in some upgrade program, I don’t think the degree of demand will be much of an assumption.

Still an extra £25 a month over what they were paying for the current phone.

Hmm, let's see... 8 Plus vs. 7 Plus. $130 more expensive. Twice the storage. Far superior processor and graphics. Significant camera upgrades. True Tone display. Bluetooth 5.0. Wireless charging. Fast charging.

You're right, I don't see any difference. I'd rather have the slower phone with fewer features off the bat that also goes obsolete a whole year earlier and save the $130! /s

I'm more interested in seeing how this sells. I'm sure there will be a select few, but I hope Apple doesn't try to stick with $999+ iPhones in the future years. That could mean trouble for the majority of their market.

That can’t be right. Are you talking about a fully amortized phone? It’s much, much less in the US. But my point is addressing postersassumption about reduced demand because of price. It’s psychologically mitigated by upgrade and payment plans.

You can quote the feature list, but if consumers don't see the value in the extra money, they won't buy.

True tone display? Ok, can the average consumer tell the difference?
Wireless Charging? Still have to buy the charger.
Bluetooth 5? Well, the feature is good - but there's not much around that will actually take advantage of it? Does the consumer actually care?
Faster, better camera - well, thats to be expected. Happens every year. Do consumers overall care about the benefits, if the previous model does the job?

Sounds really shady to me. This will artificially drive up "demand" for the 8 and almost "force" people to get the X by default - assuming there will be plenty of stock. However someone like me who might have gotten the 8 if there were no X's available is screwed because they artificially cut the stock of the 8. Great business practice. I would get an 8 over a 7 any day, if for no other reason than the wireless charging. I LOATHE Lightening and those damn unreliable cables. This company just keeps getting worse. It's like they want to drive me to Android.

Bud, you're all over the place with your quote. Why would you buy an 8+ and a X if you just getting to the point of affording the phone? Sell your 6S and switch the chip to the X? Move your Nokia?
I can't tell you how to spend your money but from the outside looking in, there seems to be better ways of spending your money.

You’re building an illogical argument on supposition and events that haven’t even happened yet, and assigning a personal value to a corporation based on that? Why not just buy an 8 right now and save yourself the tears? Consumerism isn’t hard.

I think Apple and all of these Cell Phone makers put themselves in a box with this ridiculous yearly release schedule anyway. There's but so much "innovation," that can be had that justify constant upgrades and buying the same damn thing over and over. Especially at these inflated prices. I can sort of justify getting something this year simply because I haven't paid for a new phone since my 4S and I only have the 6s because I broke my 4s and insurance replaced it with the 6s.

So funny how people think nobody will buy the 8 because it’s not much of an upgrade compared to the 7.

Just like last year people said nobody would buy the 7 because it’s not much of an upgrade from the 6S (and they removed the headphone jack, which was apparently a dealbreaker for so many people). And so on year after year.

And yet Apple still has ridiculously high sales, often breaking records. Why do people think it will somehow be different this year compared to previous years?
