Irrelevant.

First, Newsweek doesn’t have any factual information - they're just reporting based on rumors, like everyone else.

Second, my point is about how people predict flat sales because the latest iPhone isn’t a big enough upgrade from the previous one. They do this every single year, and when official sales numbers come out they are proven wrong. Every single year.

because everyone has got $1000 for something that does what they already own.

I hate the pricing as much as the next guy but with smartphones maturing, $1000 will be the standard from hereon in. Next year it be just the iPhone X and X Plus and they will cost $999 and $1100 respectively. Time to face the facts. $999 will be the new base price. You and I sadly dont have a say in this. The industry has settled on this pricing

Hmm, let's see... 8 Plus vs. 7 Plus. $130 more expensive. Twice the storage. Far superior processor and graphics. Significant camera upgrades. True Tone display. Bluetooth 5.0. Wireless charging. Fast charging.

You're right, I don't see any difference. I'd rather have the slower phone with fewer features off the bat that also goes obsolete a whole year earlier and save the $130! /s

Ya, but the consumer has spoken. They clearly don't care about those things. Sure it matters to tech savvy people. But the average person doesn't care.

It's basically NO different from the iPhone 7 in their heads that warrants an additional $170. Facebooks, iMessage, Safari, and Spotify doesn't require the processing power of the A11.

Will be interesting to see if the slow X production can make up the demand over time.

50 percent is a hell of a cut....
Hopefully, they won't let all those production assembly-lines go to waste. They should immediately re-tool the line for iPhone X models.

Everyone has a say in this; simply don't purchase. Of course enough people will so it won't make a difference..

The entire smartphone industry is on $1000 and judging from the past Apple has never reduced prices without severely compromising on features. How long are you going to hold onto your old phone?

Quite an assumption: are consumers willing to spend the high priced iPhone X?

Ten years ago Steve Ballmer questioned whether consumers would spend $500 for a phone without a keyboard. He was wrong.

I disagree. I see 5+ years of pent-up demand from people who prefer iOS to Android but always wanted a larger, high-res OLED screen with teeny bezels. I see FAR more demand for the X right now than I did for the 7 a year ago, and that thing sold quite well.
Well time will tell; but my point is "normal" people who are used to a September upgrade cycle don't even know the X is going to be available (in the loosest sense) on November 3rd.

Irrelevant; I'm not saying I'll hold on until flagship prices go down but I may look at cheaper phones to tide me over until i feel the outlay for something special is worth it.

So funny how people think nobody will buy the 8 because it’s not much of an upgrade compared to the 7.

Just like last year people said nobody would buy the 7 because it’s not much of an upgrade from the 6S (and they removed the headphone jack, which was apparently a dealbreaker for so many people). And so on year after year.

And yet Apple still has ridiculously high sales, often breaking records. Why do people think it will somehow be different this year compared to previous years?

Because even a broken clock is right twice a day. The people that say that year after year, and always wrong, have a vested interest in seeing Apple fail. Some will go to their graves not having that wish fulfilled.

Typical Wall Street knee jerk reaction... love it. It's found support above the 100 day MA which seems like a good opportunity to nibble heading into the X pre-orders.

Also, while anecdotal, I know a lot of people who are waiting for the X and if they can't get their hands on one, plan to spring for the 8.

I just got iPhone 7 after Apple announced Turkey price. $1400 Ok for me for iPhone X but price is starting $1665 for 64GB iPhone X in Turkey. I just give up. I can't never pay up to $1400 for any phone which I didn't.

So, amid afraid their iPhone X sale won't be high enough, Apple is actively cutting back the production of iPhone 8 so people who cannot buy cheaper iPhone 8 will go and buy more expensive but not necessarily superior iPhone X?

That makes a lot of sense.

I’ve gotten every ‘s’ model iPhone since the 3GS. Every time, I knew that the next year, there’d be a new form factor, but I at least knew that what I had was the latest and greatest design for at least a year. The 4s, 5s, 6s, were all cutting edge for the year they were out. It just feels silly investing $800 in an 8 when Apple has laid their cards out about the future. It’d be like if Apple co-announced the iPhone 5 and the 4s together.

So I’m keeping my 6s for a 3rd year, the first time I’ve ever kept an iPhone that long. My 6s is still really fast. Could the battery life be better? Absolutely. Would better night photography be awesome? Sure. But I’ve gotten a lot of amazing photos out of it. I can chill for a year until when the X-style design comes down in price. I’m Apple’s worst nightmare.

We do have a say if we stop buying them.

I was going to upgrade this year but they wanted £60 month with £30 cash upfront for the lowest usable tariff. Pffft, they can get lost. My 6S is still good for another two years.

Marketing 101.. pull the cheaper item back.. under deliver on a higher price item.. chaos looking for an even cheaper unit that is being phased out.. ramp up production again.. upgrading and secondary markets take off.. all part of the plan. People still thinking there will be plenty of X's around are going to be in for a shock.. even though they really should have been paying attention the entire time knowing.. X isn't going to be easy to find.

It’s so ridiculous that the market reacts to an “unnamed source” that claims something. (There’s always someone predicting gloom and doom for Apple.)

And it’s even more ridiculous when the market overreacts to discussions on the iPhone 8 when any savvy Apple follower knows that iPhone X sales are going to go gangbusters in the months to come.

What's the iPhone 8 again? Oh yeah, that was the last gen. :D

It's like, 4 years behind the iPhone X. The 8S, 9, and 9S all came between it and the X, right?

===

I should have sold at $164 and just paid the extra 10% in taxes for holding it for so little time... now the question is how much more will it fall...
