Has it been confirmed the 8 has 3GB?

And even then I can’t see it being as big a jump as the 6s going to 2GB. Seeing safari tabs actually stay loaded for once was a revelation!

Is there a reason why you're trying to justify to me why it's not an upgrade because of your standards? That doesn't translate to everybody else's appreciations or situation . And more specifically, read your last sentence. Not everybody's going to be upgrading from the iPhone 7 and 7+. Anything lower than the iPhone 7 Model, that would be a fairly good upgrade for all those capabilities. Nor was I even commenting on why somebody should upgrade from iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8. That really wasn't my point behind my post. My point was, that poster commented stating wireless charging was really the only major thing added. I simply list of the other capabilities that poster left out and failed to mention.

It realistically is the only noteworthy addition because Apple already had the "best LCD on a phone ever" according to DisplayMate. 4k capable camera already. Dual cameras are already a generation old. The dual speakers and water resistance were on the 2016 iPhones. Everything else is a refinement and a smaller addition that will not make the user experience exceptionally better than what the 7 or 7+ offer. That's fine if people are upgrading from the iPhone 6 or earlier. I am just saying the iPhone 8/8+ are lame ducks because the iPhone X is the one to get.

My Aunt Martha should start reviewing iPhones

"After spilling melted butter on it making cookies for the kids, it still works! oh and photos of my 12 cats came out great!"
Exactly! I would believe more than than then hymnals of praise you hear from trying resurrent Steve from the dead Gruber.

So what makes a phone worthwhile upgrading to then? Smartphones are kind of peaking in terms of their abilities more or less, so what killer feature is worthwhile shelling out big bucks to upgrade? Almost every new phone new has "a better camera speck" or a "better screen" but nothing revolutionary when you really think about it... If you're in the market to get a new phone, to spend a few hundred more on a non-so-great OLED display (compared to other OLED displays on the market) on the iPhone X to me doesn't make sense....

It's about offering features that Apple doesn't have to enhance the user experience. They're just doing under the hood run of the mill spec upgrades like the S9 will be with the S8. For starters, they should've shrunk the bezels. Adding 600 MHz LTE coverage could've helped too. Changing to USB Type C would've been great as well. Adding a headphone jack back would've been nice. Upgrading Touch ID could've helped as well. It's fine to do the upgrades under the hood, but it isn't worth it if you're using a 6S or later because it's essentially a minimal upgrade.

TO YOU. I would gladly pay $100-$200 extra for 4k/60 video, and the wireless charging alone.

To the masses. That's why iPhone 8s and 8+s were so readily available at pre-order time. I see ship within 4 business days right now. The iPhone 8 and 8+ are not going to be well received because of the iPhone X. The 7 and 7+ were harder to get last year, especially with Jet Black. It's good to know you're willing to waste the $ on 30 extra FPS and wireless charging. I won't.

Maybe I'm getting older and boring but I just don't feel the need to upgrade anymore. They just feel like incremental updates to me. My iPhone 6s is perfect for my needs of email, web browsing and photos when I'm not out with my proper camera.

I also don't feel the need to upgrade the IOS software straight away either. they just seem to be few layout changes.

Same with the computers as well.

Only if you consider new features to be the only difference... but literally every component was upgraded from the screen to the cameras. I don't think it's fair to say there are no major upgrades outside of wireless charging.

In this age, no changes to external features of a phone means same as previous model. AR, improved camera, improved display, new A11 processor don't matter, people believe in what they see unfortunately.

The way you can tell you're not with the masses is that you have a 'proper camera.' :p

Why not just put a new battery in the 5s, that would be pretty cheap.
Or maybe buy her a SE (which has the internals of the 6s); that would still be pretty cheap.

The battery in the 5S tests ok so I think that the battery life of the 5S is just not very good in general. I offered her the SE but she was more interested in the 6S due to the screen size even though I told her that the SE gets better battery life

Are you privy to sales figures? Can you show me that the iPhone 8 sold less units than the 7? Remember, the 7 was free with virtually every carrier last year on installments, and it still was not very backordered.

Edit: I plan to order an X for myself and my wife, just to clarify. If I was deciding between the 7/8, the 8 is a no brainer imo.

Heh these people have no plans to buy any phone ;(
These phones aren't even out and they already know they suck!
I bought the 8+ because I wanted a phone now! I'll get the X if I don't like the size of the plus.
Either way I think Iphone users are getting more than ever.
If I were an investor I think I'd invest, the iPhone line has more price points than ever.
Can't wait to start using the 8+!

Same! I get at least one of each from work, since I do MDM. I think the 8+ will be a great upgrade over the 7+. There is not a single way that it's worse (IMO), and has quite a few advantages. I don't get the hate, but I also wouldn't sweat the $100 upgrade if I was paying myself.

This is completely false. You didn't take the time to actually review the specifications for the iPhone 8 at all.

What about ....Glass backing, A11 Bionic processor/Neutral Engine, upgraded camera, new Tru-Tone Display, wider color gamut display, improved stereo speakers that are 25% louder and augmented reality capabilities.

Most people will only notice true tone. The rest is blah and boring. The iPhone X should've been the only phone released and Apple could have managed their resources better. No one wants the fourth rendition of the same phone.

The main difference between the previous iPhones [7 and 7 Plus] and iPhone 8 is it just support wireless Charing. Otherwise nothing major upgrade over iPhone 7 Plus. All minor spec bumps come at a higher price tag since Apple rised the price by $50.

No, the $50 is for the storage bump from 32GB to 64GB.

Wireless charging would be sufficient to designate an 'S' model in the past - like Siri, TouchID, etc.

So are we all agreed this is not really an '8', but a 6SSS ?
Coming from a 6s, I disagree. As a standalone feature I'm far more excited for water resistance than wireless charging.

Also improved speed, better camera, more storage, greater facility with ios11...

Certainly the combination of water resistance, wireless charging, and overall spec bumps, combined with new os warrants a full version.

You could quibble with me about whether 7s is needed, but I hope apple moves away from the between-year S designation anyway.

As others have said, the 8 is effectively a 7S, which in any other year would have garnered mostly positive reviews. But because the 8's are now second fiddle to the X, the natural thing to do is to question why someone would upgrade to the 8 instead of the X.

For those currently using a 7 or 7+, it likely is a stretch to think upgrading to the 8 makes sense. I've been using my 6S+ without feeling the need or want to upgrade to the 7, and the I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that the obvious upgrade path is going to be the X. For early adopters, why would you not skip the 8 and go right to the X?
I'm going from 6s to 8 to keep Touch ID and get water resistance and because I don't care about the bigger screen etc enough for the extra money.

Except for the price bump, is this supposed to be surprising? This is always the case.
