It was way cooler back when Apple just had ONE version of the iPhone (but in different storage capacities and with black and white options). Such simpler times! Now it's like they're trying to confuse their customers by having so many different versions... Ugh!
Why would anyone "like" this comment???

Google is the only manufacturer with ONE model in different configurations. And they really are an anomaly. Go check out their HUUUGE numbers of sales.

Is Samsung doing this? Huawei? Xiaomi? LG?

I do NOT want Apple to offer one model in different configurations. I want many options of size, speed, features, price etc.

These renderings are stupid. Remove the physical spot where the button is to get more screen real-estate and then put the button up there full time. I hope they don't follow that renderers path if they are doing away with the physical location of the home button.
I dont see why they want to get rid of the home button in the first place. It is a quintessential feature that the phone has had since day 1 and I love it. If they incorporate it into the screen somehow they better do it right. Seems too gimmicky to me for some reason.

Looking at the mockups, it occurs to me how well the "soft" home button area would work if it was horizontally scrollable. Everything to the left of the home button could be app icons for fast switching. It would work much better than the "last" button in the top left corner, or even the back button on Android. It fits with the purpose as the home button is essentially a launcher for the Springboard "app".

I hope it's not actually called that... I'd much rather something like iPhone XE...so the line up would look something like:

iPhone SE
iPhone 7 / 7 Plus
iPhone 7s / 7s Plus
iPhone XE

How about iPhone XP ... The XP is for experience. Just thought of that myself.

The headline does say "Launch Well After 4.7-Inch and 5.5-Inch Versions" so they could finalise design as late as August and launch next year; I'd guess March like they do with the iPhone SE.

That would be a huge let down from a marketing standpoint. Again, how could they not know what the next generation will be? Apple releases are like "Waiting for Godot".

The iPhone Edition, really? That's the best they could come up with? And what are the others, non-iPhone editions? But they really ARE iPhones?

I wish they went back to this strategy.
They wont... but I wish they did.

I still prefer the initially rumoured X , short, sounds cool, 10th anniversary and all...
More expensive is a shame, but if my budget allows it, I might get myself the X :)

Hmmm, looks like it could be the replacement for my 6s, but not if the price is as high as the rumours are saying. No way I'm paying that much for a phone that I'll only use for 2 years.

It seems Apple is following the Watch model and using the 10th anniversary as an excuse to launch a "uber exclusive" low production Edition version. Just like the Watch it allows them to cater to the rich and famous collectors while creating a beta test for new tech and materials. Looks like a win win for Apple.

The Cupertino company is also expected to announce a more standard 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus alongside the "iPhone Edition." According to Mac Otakara, while those two models are expected to launch in September, the "iPhone Edition" may not launch until well after that.

So Apple is going to launch an incremental update to the iPhone 7, while the rumor mill will be in full hype that a revolutionary Edition phone is coming on the heels of it? What would that do for sales?

I'm not buying this rumor for that reason alone. It's hard to imagine the 7s being that much more compelling than the 7, leaving customers to stick with what they have and wait for the "Edition", or at a minimum upgrade the 7, or 6s for less, with the intent to upgrade to the "Edition" when it comes out.

Apple will delay the release of the 7s to coincide with any premium offering for that reason alone.

Maybe they put the home button on the side. The touch bar and aWatch are such small surfaces that they may have the technology.

I completely agree. In fact, a few months ago (after that horrible MacBook Pro launch) I edited my vision for how their products should be named/organized:
ProposedLineup.jpg

I wish they had a concise layout for their offerings. The laptops and iPads especially keep getting confusing. Which is smaller? The air, or the mini? Wait, the MacBook is smaller than the MacBook air? Is the iPad Air 2 the newest? I keep forgetting. Keep in Mind that the small iPad Pro and iPad air have the same screen size. There is way too much disorganization and overlap! Simplify!
