We do understand that all of this is just a guess by those reporting it right?
The shape, the name, if there will be 2-3-4 models introduced. So folks are taking the guesses and running with it as if Apple themselves released the information.
I mean Apple shows us every year ahead of launch what the phone will be exactly and give you time to make a decision if you actually want it or not.

Really not digging this strategy. Part of the iPhone's brand appeal is that you have "the best" phone. I know the reality is debatable, but that's the concept.

The iPhone costs too much to be positioned as the "medium-range" phone.

Seriously, just call it the 8.

Not important on MR. The masses want blood.

And then they go out and buy, complaining that they have to wait:)

It was way cooler back when Apple just had ONE version of the iPhone (but in different storage capacities and with black and white options). Such simpler times! Now it's like they're trying to confuse their customers by having so many different versions... Ugh!
Price discrimination helps match consumer demand (some are willing to pay more than others for phones).

Boosts profits and increases total surplus.

Why don't they just call the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 and call the others Performa 7 & Performa 7 Plus.

Oh god. Performa Apple was the worst Apple.

They took the Mac, inflated it with air and made it look like basketball sneakers, gave it a condescending name, and a slow processor.

The 8 might be a couple hundreds more expensive than the 7s but it won't be unaffordable, esp. with carrier financing. .
What about those on Apple's yearly upgrade plan?, do you think Apple will let them have the Edition/8/whatever it's called? Or will they say "tough-luck, new purchases only, it's a 7s/7s Plus for you guys"?

And your widely accepted name would be?
Not my job. But the money Apple pays their team to come up with stuff like that and the best they can do is the exact same name as an Apple watch? If the point of the phone is it's next level and something big for the 10th anniversary, I'd expect something with a bit more excitement or at the very least, some more thought put into it. For a company that's been losing touch with the younger generation to Samsung and Google, a cool name like Edition is not gonna turn many heads either.

They want to cater to everyone. If you can't figure out which one to buy then that's your problem.

Apart from it being the 10th anniversary, what evidence is there to suggest that this year is supposed to be the iPhone 8? Every other iPhone has had an S year. If history is any indication, this year would be a iPhone 7s year.

I fear people are hyping this year up leading to disappointment.

"Apart from it being the 10th Anniversary of the BIGGEST TECH ITEM TO EVER EXIST and all the leaks point to it being named the iPhone 8, what is there to suggest?"

you really can't put the mindset of a person who can't afford a USD 1000 iPhone (and therefore doesnt buy one) inside the head of a person who can afford a USD 1000 iPhone (the person who does buy it).
both groups would have the same propensity to keep their phones the same amount of time.
Although you are correct on certain demographics, that is only a subset of the larger consumer base buying phones.
Again, the marketing people from the likes of Apple and Samsung knows better. They won't be releasing phones in the $1k range (and with Samsung, twice a year, S and Note series), if they don't know what they are doing. The consumer behavior on these brands are not the same as consumers buying phones for its features.

People sure will be crying unicorn tears if this iPhone 8 turns out to be non-existent like that tapered iphone that they had rumoured a few years back. I think it was around the time that Apple released the 5S. Although if that is the case you can assume that there will be a bit of a sell off of stock from the top executives over the next few months

I hate the on screen home button that is used in Carplay... if the new iPhone's on screen button is anything that.... it is going to suck.

I don't see why everyone is in such a hurry to "get rid of bezels." Bezels serve a purpose on a smartphone. I don't want to accidentally have my palm touching the screen like it did when I had the s6 edge.

Not good enough! Want full bleed, edge-to-edge display on all sides. Been waiting 3 years for this.

Sure. And a car is a car, a house is a house, a baseball player is a baseball player. Details don't matter, right?

Sorry, you misinterpret my post .... I mean there have been so many differing rumours that it's getting to the point where every eventuality has been covered so that there isn't anything new to report. These people in the know just throw hundreds of guesses out there that they are invariably right in the end.

Grrrrr, that pesky "marketing woman!" Oh wait, isn't marketing handled by Schiller? A bloke? :)

One thing I would never accuse Apple of is gimmicky stuff. There might be something that not everyone finds useful (you can't please everyone all the time), but I can't put my finger on anything that's a gimmick.

I was referring to Angela (can't remember her last name). Bet she came with the idea of watch bands.

The MBP touchbar is gimmicky in my opinion. Increased price, decreased battery size, decreased battery life due to increase in extra CPU. Questionable utility.
Angela Ahrendts is Senior Vice President of Retail. Yes it's fun to blame the most visible woman at Apple for just about everything just because...well you tell me why you would blame someone in charge of retail for coming up with watchbands. Her job is figuring out the best way to sell them through Apple's retail channels. And yes, she has made a hash of it and yes you can legitimately blame her for that. But by Grabthar's Hammer, can we all please stop blaming her for the plagues of Egypt, global warming, crop circles and bad ideas at Apple that are more fun to blame on Eddy Cue? It is much, much more fun and satisfying to blame Eddy Cue for things. Because...purple shirts and he hangs out with Will.i.am on occasion. That's the same reason I blame everything that goes wrong in my life on Fergie.

If this is the case, I'm glad I bought the iPhone 7. I had a 5S and was trying to hold out for the 2017 model because of all the rumors.

No way I would buy an edition model for the higher prices and I would just feel cheated if I bought a 7S.

I was in exactly the same position. Went with a 7+ and have been happy. Its been a trial adapting to a large phone, but I decided to sell my iPad Air and I've not looked back. After my daughter and I take vacation this summer I'll pay the phone off and move to Cricket and save us $100 a month. I'm interested in the new iPhone but I typically get 4 years from a phone so...
