Why would iPhone 8 start at 64GB when iPhone 7 entry capacity is 128GB?
Makes no sense, I'm calling BS on this.

So, catching up with the competition means raising the price in apple-land ?
The closest competitor is Samsung, with prices not much more affordable. I am using Galaxy S8 (standard size) and while I really like it,after months of use I have started to be reminded why I love Apple products so much.
The s8 is 600 euros Right now , probably 400-500 euros cheaper than what the iPhone will be and it was 700 euros when it was released , mind to share with us why you don't like it so much anymore ? I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of my 7 plus for it , it's touchwiz isn't it ? Ugh , why doesn't Samsung just get it together and hire some proper developers that optimize their software ?
With Apple, I find it's often a mix of the two. Apple-certified peripherals do tend to be of a higher quality, but at the same, they also cost more and there is no denying that Apple often profits handsomely from this arrangement.Getting reports that the wireless charging capability might be limited to only Apple chargers via software restrictions. This is either because Apple doesn't trust 3rd party wireless chargers or just a plain old money grab. I go with the latter.
I think there is a big difference in price. The note 8 tops out at £870 here in the UK, whereas the iphone 8 is likely to start at £1,000 for the same amount of storage (64GB). 256GB and 512GB are likely to be £100 and £200 more respectively. Also I wouldn't say Apple are catching up based on the leaked iphone 8 rumours, merely not lagging behind. I do love Apple and I will be keeping my 7 plus and all my other Apple devices. Just not falling for the hyperbole (cash cow) that is the iphone 8.The closest competitor is Samsung, with prices not much more affordable. lol, people with airpods
And Apple's touchid was spoofed by a gummy bear...what's your point?
I don't see any chance that they'll charge only 100 more to go from 256->512gb. That seems like wishful thinking. To do the same on a macbook is a 200 dollar upgrade, why would it be cheaper in a more constrained footprint? More likely its 64, 128 and 256gb options. If a 512gb option exists it will be at least 200 more than a 256gb option.Daring Fireball's John Gruber believes Chen's source indicates the iPhone 8 will indeed start at $999, with a higher storage capacity model at $1099 and maybe another at $1199. Based on alleged leaks earlier this week, these price points could correspond with 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB, respectively.
For decent storage as you put it the iPhone 8 is going to cost way more than $1,000. That's only for the base model (64 GB). So you can imagine the next tier will be $100 more.

You should vote with your brain, not with your wallet. And guess what? We don’t need to. It’s our money, it’s ours to spend as we deem fit, and we will vote with our wallets as to what we believe the best smartphone for us is.

Who knows? Maybe one day you'll be in a situation where you need those 1000$ for something really vital and you don't have it and then you'll understand how crazy it was to spend such quantity in a phone...
Objectively, there's just NO reason at all for a phone to cost 1000$.Who knows. Maybe the world will all just suddenly end one day and render this whole argument moot as well.
Is the next iPhone expensive? Maybe. Perhaps. We will know for sure once Apple officially announces the pricing tiers, though if we look at past pricing trends, the higher storage tiers tend to make the more expensive models seem more reasonably priced in comparison.
Of course, I may well change my tune if the iPhone 8 model doesn't seem like a good enough upgrade alongside the 7s.
Years ago, I made the conscious decision to embrace the Apple ecosystem in its entirety. I am aware of the drawbacks of limiting myself to one vendor for the majority of my hardware and software needs, but I personally feel that the benefits of an integrated ecosystem far outweigh the drawbacks (for me) and I will say that I have been a very happy and satisfied Apple user thus far.
And I will gladly pay to stay in this integrated platform for as long as I can. There are just some things only the devil can offer.
Sure, I can afford it. What’s wrong with that? That doesn’t distract from the fact that I use my mobile for all kinds of purposes everyday, and calculated per minute of use actually is way cheaper than many other commodities I use. Such as car, food, cinema tickets etc. That's because you're bad with your money. Not because a 1000 dollar phone makes any sense.

Is it made of gold?
It's just too much. At some point we as customers must say NO.
If we don't say NO they will keep increasing the prices!
Would you be okay to pay 3000$ for a laptop? Or 1000$ for a smartwatch? Or 2000$ for a tablet?
Maybe one day it'll happen. And you know why? Because we as customers never stopped it.
Simply, either people will pay that much or not buy it.Objectively, there's just NO reason at all for a phone to cost 1000$.

The sad thing is people will still buy it.Simply, either people will pay that much or not buy it.

They must not understand that if they don't buy it then Apple loses (and not us, the customers) and would be forced to lower the prices going forward, therefore they (the customers) would win.
In the end, the masses just keep doing it wrong.
