To an extent yes, however when it comes to the mass market we will have to see. Because when people walk into a phone shop, the new iPhone will be the most expensive one there by a cinsiderable margin! If it's at this high price it will be interesting to see how the market reacts.
It will be very expensive even on contract and I wonder if most people are willing to pay that much even when you are spreading the cost.

They couldn't even offer a decent upgrade for iOS 11 for existing iPhones.

At least Samsung have been pretty decent with brexit and not taken advantage of it. Apple on the order hand are working on a $1 to £1 ratio so yeah. I'm expecting it to start at £1,000 and that's only for 64GB. They will try and justify it by

a) Marketing the phone as a premium/pro device

b) offering the 7/7S plus at the same price points as last year

Exactly. Those whinging about the price of the note 8 should just wait until the iPhone 8 comes out. Then they will see pure greed at work.
iOS 11 offered nothing for the existing iPhones apart from visual tweaks. I think the real iOS 11 upgrades have been saved for the iPhone Pro. Apple no longer cares about their lower end lineup just like the iPad.

Bet i'm looking at £70 a month on EE for the 256GB at the very least. It will be on the upgrade 12 months contract

That's one expensive contract! I have a sim only with Tesco, only pay £12 a month haha. I was with EE and they have a fast network, but the signal in my area went from pretty good to pretty poor as I suspect they turned off one of the transmitters. But I can get with Tesco who use O2's network faster 4G speeds then my home Fibre broadband! When out walking the dog.

I think Apple are about to find out. Though their ignorance and greed knows no bounds.

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting is that there are enough people out there who buy things like iPhones w/o even glancing at the price tag to make it worthwhile for Apple. For those who can't afford to do that, you can still buy a 7, 7S, or 6S. Yeah, it's a bummer that the best Apple products are too pricey for the average person, but isn't that true about everything (cars, houses, refrigerators, food, clothes, etc.)?

dont be a troll. I can afford it and then some, doesn't put a dent in my bottom line.

Question is can Apple afford its shrinking iPhone market share?

Obviously they can if they sell devices at the prices they desire every year globally with new iPhones being back ordered. People want the devices and will pay the asking price for it. If you think it’s too expensive then get a cheaper iPhone or an entirely different phone. The iPhone market share isn’t growing as fast as it was simply because they have reached almost all markets where they can see growth.

Honestly, I love Apple but if I can get the same type of product for cheaper somewhere else, then I'm going to do just that. I hope it brings something new to the table.

Statements like these make me wonder. How do you propose you get “the same type of product for cheaper somewhere else” if Apple iPhones are the only phones that runs iOS? Are you referring to getting a knock off phone or android look alike? iOS core apps and services are unique to iPhone.

Off topic, but I spent a few weeks in London and miss the U.K. So much! Loved tesco soup for lunch and their curry chicken salad (what you guys call sandwich fill) was incredible!

Loved the food and chocolate too, miss you London!

Back of a van? They don't take cards or queations.

I have zero issues with the iPhone being 1000 dollars. A 7 plus with decent storage is already 969 anyway.

I really hate that the screen has a "dent" at the top of the screen.

Just no. It's hideous. Combined with the barely acceptable protrusion of the cameras in the back it just garbage.

I'll never understand anyone who pays this much for a phone, when there are phones that work as good for less than half that price.

It's just ridiculous. 1000$!

Yeah, go ahead and pay it. Then in 5 years you'll be paying 2000$!

You can't justify paying 1000$ for a phone. These companies think they can get away with anything, and that's because there literally are people willing to pay that much...

Unbelievable and unacceptable.

Its a classic case of "Apple's first" vs "its old because others have done similar so i don't understand" type of symptom...

And guess what? We don’t need to. It’s our money, it’s ours to spend as we deem fit, and we will vote with our wallets as to what we believe the best smartphone for us is.

I wouldn't consider a 7 or 7s to be a low-end product. An argument could be made for the SE but it's a capable device in a smaller form factor. The $329 iPad is a different story. The iPad Pro is the continuation of what the old flagship iPads used to be. Besides the iPad is the product that needed more improvement to make it more viable as a device for productivity. The iPhone is already a mature product. OLED is the big improvement here and the latest flagship always gets an extra feature like the "telephoto" lens on the 7 plus. This year those features are OLED and facial recognition. Perhaps the 512GB option is limited to the 8/Pro as well to make it even more desirable. Come next year every iPhone but the 7s should have OLED.

Hi!

I respect your point of view, but there's a 'holly trinity' of a healthy market:
1. Revenue: apple has that in the bag
2. Volume: Apple is good here too
3. Market Share: and that's where Apple is falling short

What you said is true, the category of smartphones has expanded, but if Apple's market share doesn't follow, Or exceed, the expansion rate that's a problem.

One of the companies in this space laid off hundred of employees and restructured in a year their revenue was great, volume was fantastic, but market share growth was 5%. Why? Category growth that year was 9%

Market share is the means, profits is the end.

Apple's small market share belies the fact that it is still a very large number in an absolute sense, more than enough to sustain its own thriving ecosystem. So I think that past this critical mass, market share isn’t really that much of a concern for Apple.

It is really a lot of money for a phone, especially considering so many people get a new one each year. That's creeping into entry level MacBook territory which has utility far longer than the average 2 years one keeps a phone. There will still be record demand for it and availability delays until well into January for sure. Some people just feel insecure if they don't have the newest phone. I saw it with people who already had 7's buying the product red version. Honestly I don't care what people do with their money. I myself will wait for the improved 2nd gen OLED product.

Shareholders won't be satisfied with the small slice if the pie, regardless how big it is

Everything is relative, including value, just ask my brother-in-law...

For decent storage as you put it the iPhone 8 is going to cost way more than $1,000. That's only for the base model (64 GB). So you can imagine the next tier will be $100 more.
