The iPad Pro was the perfect device to try this on. Not sure why Apple didn't do it. I mean gee whiz I'm paying a grand for an iPad Pro why not roll out the red carpet for us instead of dumping the cheapest thing on us.

Put USB C on the phone? Just think of all the over priced Lightning stuff Apple wouldn't sell.

That being said, iPhone 8 Expected to cost $1000.

News flash from September 9th 2016.

2015. And the 6s Plus before tax was $950, which would be over $1,000 after taxes.

2014. And the 6 Plus at full retail was $950, again after taxes over a grand.

Really hoping it'll be just USB-C on both ends of the cable and not any Lightning garbage. Proprietary connectors are unintuitive and anti-consumer.

But the proprietary Lightning connector has the security chip. This means Apple will be able to ensure your experience with peripherals remains magical.

I'll join the group who prefers USB-C on both ends of the cable. It would be nice when on the road with just my now two year old MacBook, or MacBook Pro that ill be picking up next week. I understand it is not great for the rest of my iPad, and many other devices for people, but i see no reason not to do it and many to do it.

fast charging is that a new technology????? Never heard of it before.....

They need to use USB-C on both sides of the cable, and not USB-C to Lightning. Just my opinion (and a lot of other peoples based on comments I've heard and read throughout the past couple years)

That would be the worst decision both for them and their current customers. Why ruin compatibility with existing cables just to make other brands' users happy. Also, I don't want to read stories of electrocuted iPhone users.

You can still charge every apple product with a lightning port as the usb c is only on one end all your chargers will charge this and the usb charger will charge your existing apple lightning products

I realize that. I was just addressing the posters saying that they want Apple to move to USB-C on both ends. I'm not partial to any one connector on the charging end. Whatever provides the quickest charge and greatest flexibility is fine. I would just prefer lightning to remain the connector on the device side in order to keep cable compatibility between all my iOS devices and AirPods.

where can I get that wallpaper!

I would love to have USB C on my iPhone. It would make things so much easier and standardize things all around. Even the new MBs and MBPs have USB C

My god the people who keep saying putting USB-C on the iPhone would be bad are too damn high. It's almost as if like they like being ****ed up the ass. I want a future where I can charge my switch, phone, camera, all on USB-C. Apple is always making life difficult for anyone not in their ecosystem and it's annoying as all hell. Been putting up with this **** for so long.

So Apple should make more difficult for those fully in their ecosystem and easier for those only partially in it. Yeah..... that makes a lot of sense, lol

Ever since Apple enabled the iPhone to charge at 2.1A, I've used a tablet charger at the same rating to speed up the process, so any developments around this are good news indeed.

As if being high is a bad thing o_O

The reason behind this madness seems to do with wireless charging. Apple isn't going to lose money on Lightning licensing on a port that's going to be obsoleted in a few years. A completely wireless charging phone seems to be right around the door, so it makes sense for Apple to cash in on their fading charging tech.

Aha! Since the Lightning port is going the way of the wind, there was no longterm need to put one in the MacBook lineup. Seems they made the USB-C decision knowing that wireless charging was going to overtake the iPhone/iPad and decided to go with USB-C...which will be supported for a much longer amount of time.

This is all theoretical, but it makes sense.

I think USB-C is a terrible design myself.
Apple got it right with the lightning connector.
USB-C has the same problem all old connectors have which is that it has to plug around that little pin piece. Lint, dirt and debris clog those types of connectors, especially in mobile devices. And they're more fragile because you can break that little piece off. Thunderbolt has this problem too.

They changed the original connector after 5 years. The current connector has been around for 5 years. Its about time to upgrade everything to USB-C. It will also encourage companies to start making USB-C a standard for every device so Macbook Pros can be used with more devices without dongles sooner rather than later.

Might be a personal preference but it's easy to use lightning than USB. I feel I cannot I will break that small pin inside the USB connector if I didn't look and insert the connector properly. Don't have to worry about that with lightning. I wish they had adopted something similar for USB-C.

My 12.9" iPad Pro charges twice as quickly when I use a Lightning to USB-C cable and a 29W power adapter.

I cannot imagine why using a cable with USB-C at both ends with allow for even quicker charging.

But aren't they doing that now? Don't they have USB C on the new Macbooks? So if you had a iphone with USB C you can connect it directly to your new Macbook. You can't with a lightning cable...unless you have an adapter.

LOL rendering all previous cables I have collected useless yet again.

When Samsung switched to usb c for note 7 and s8, they included a free adapter in the box so you can use your old cable (as well as a normal usb c cable)

Maybe Apple can do the same. We know they love dongles.

Why apple! Why!

Why wont you just bite the bullet and go full USB-C to USB-C on the phone? I'd gladly plop down money on a good set of USB-C headphones but nooooo. You're going to force lightning headphones on us and then make us purchase another set for the macbook pro.
That would make Apple cables compatible with Android devices and vice versa, which is not allowed.

I don't think that has anything to do with USB-C on a MacBook. Lightning has always been for iOS devices. The choice on the MacBook was for connecting peripherals - so they could choose USB-A, Thunderbolt, USB-C. USB-C was the obvious choice since Thunderbolt 3 was designed with the USB-C connector in mind. So 2 birds with 1 stone. iOS devices have never had Thunderbolt connections (and probably won't for quite a few years, if ever), so there's no reason to abandon Lightning outside of pleasing those not in the iOS ecosystem.

And even with wireless charging, there's still a need for the lightning connector on the iPhone and iPad.
Fast(er) charging and...
charging the Pencil, lol

The iPhone would still have a lightning port, not sure what problem this would solve. You would still need two different cables to charge an iPhone and a MacBook.

There was never compatibility in charging between MacBooks and iOS devices. And MacBooks have always had USB ports. They just updated the USB type, integrated Thunderbolt into it, and dropped MagSafe. Great moves all around.

There are lightning to USB-C cables available if you need to plug your iOS device into a MacBook. But I'd guess most people don't do that anymore, so it really isn't an issue. And there are far more people with iOS devices than with Macs anyway.
