I want to know how we will invoke reachability—especially given how freaking tall this new display is!

Double-tap the home button and the lock button moves down the phone so you can reach it? Oh, no, hold on..

It's interesting how things have changed since the first iPhone. I think anyone could have just picked one up and mastered it within maybe 30 minutes without referring to any instructions, it was just so intuitive. These days though, I wonder how many 'ordinary' users ever discover half the basic functions of the OS that are hidden away in multi/combined button presses or gestures. Tap the home button 5 times for the power off/emergency ID screen??? I guess the more features you add, the more complex the UI is going to get. I'm regularly using my iPhone throughout every day, but I still occasionally find myself forgetting how to invoke some function or other.

I want a Siri off button, not just a Siri off but replaced with that other thing that's even worse.

Siri is terrible! All the time on my headphones "Siri set volume to 60%" and then Siri says "okay calling Dean"... STOP CALLING DEAN FOR EVERYTHING!

Does anybody even use Siri? That thing is usless. It has lots of troubles understanding even the basic words, unlike Google assistant which worked perfectly when i had android phone, and that was more than two years ago.

How so? Reportedly, "Hey Siri" will still be there, and if all I've read about the upcoming Facial Recognition function is true, that feature will 'knock it out of the park' making TouchID feel sluggish and outdated.

Pick up your phone, and it's unlocked before you're even ready to interact with it. In a situation where you're worried about security?.... instantly temporarily revert to passcode.

I don’t use Hey Siri I use it with the home button I don’t really care it will just be annoying for a couple of days lol new iPhone will be worth it though

why can't I just have a normal home button? was anyone screaming for the home button to change? It's one of the reasons I returned the 7 - didn't like the weird button/not button thing. That and there was no difference with my 6s. I'm still looking forward to the 8.

I recently tried a Pixel phone and the feedback you get when you press the onscreen buttons is better than the horrible home button on the 7. If Apple can do the fingerprint reader through glass and get the haptic feedback right then that will work.

My issue with the forced Fingerprint thing is not everyone lives in Southern California. What about those us who actually have winters. I don't want to have to take off my gloves every time I want to use the phone. Granted those situations won't happen often, but still.

I guess we will see when it is released, but there could still be other ways to unlock the phone that would work with gloves.

The more I see this phone, the more I don't want it. Not sure what they were thinking with the goofy cut outs, but I hope I am surprised and impressed next week or else my money will be going to either a 7s+ or an s8+

Samsungs implementation on the S8 looks much better but I would imagine if it gives Apple the best screen to body ratio on the market they will do a lot of crowing about it during the keynote.

The irony that it probably doesn't provide much (if any) more usable screen space will be completely glossed over I'm sure.

Obviously have to reserve final judgement but it seems like Apple is adding more and more complexity because it is fixated by this slab of glass idea. Complexity in terms of gestures and also compromise in terms of the distracting cutout at the top.

So, it is not built into the current iOS? What about the new iOS coming out in a few weeks?

What's the issue? Get a different keyboard - set it as default?

Microsoft Surface made a big point of showing off that their facial recognition could perfectly tell twins apart. This was at least 2 years ago.

Also works in total darkness, is lightning fast, and learns as you age/grow beard/get hair cuts etc. It just works, unlike a lot of other aspects of my Surface.

Thanks - good answer!

My 2 tests would be unlocking my phone - while half asleep / bedsheets half coving my face or while I have Ski googles on.

Why don’t they just put the fingerprint sensor on the back like every other Android phone does it? It’s a simple solution.

Until voice commands work 1:1 like physical buttons, we should never buy into it whole sale.
I don't use Siri extensively, but I don't seem to have the problems described on this thread, at least to the 'totally worthless' degree others are reporting.

But you are correct, until it works as well as a physical button it shouldn't really be considered a reliable replacement. Making a 'it's almost as good' claim doesn't help Apple's position. And having to implement work arounds, whether these are official ones, or things users figure out on their own, means it doesn't work as well for the number of people that the physical button did.

Just realized that Apple quietly removed the Don't Blink Video from Youtube - at least, it's not showing up for me.

How do you do a screen shot without the home button?

Weird, no one has asked that.

Great question. I use that ALL the time.

What I'm hoping is that these leaks were staged by Apple, and something completely different is being announced.

Why do I have to hold or plug in or activate anything other then saying keywords like "Hey Siri" on a MODERN mobile device?

Or is this feature for naive Luddites that think their devices are recording everything they say so they feel the need for a psychical switch to hold so they can sleep better at night?

Sorry, I own a pixel and and iPhone 7 and I have to say I think it's quite the opposite. When you press the "home button" on the pixle the whole phone virbates. With the iPhone 7 however it feels like we actually press a button.

How is swipping up complex? Yes, it will take some getting used to. But I give it 24 hours and we will act like we have never known anything else.

How to you come to the assessment, that there will be not more usable screen estate? We jump from 4.7" to approx. 5.8". That is over an inch more. With the rumored function area gone, the screen will be much larger than the Samsung Galaxy S8.

That is excatly why Apple doesn't like leaks. We have only half the picture if at all. We do not know how they will handle the cut outs. I think when you use it, you won't even notice it. But we have only seen this terribly crafted dummy-phones.
