Never thought I'd say this but I might jump ship to Samsung if that happens. So far the rumors are just not that impressive to me. 5.15inch of usable screen can't compete with the S8, and none of the mock ups are singing to me. The only thing I'm psyched for is the edge to edge display but I'll have to see if it's better than what the S8 is offering. The leaked pictures look like they are still using the iphone6 general form factor, which I'm getting really sick of.

I'm on the iPhone Upgrade Program. My iPhone 7 128GB is $749. This one is rumored to be $999. This will make my bill go up $10.42/mo, which isn't bad, especially since I recently switched to T-Mobile from Verizon and I'm saving $88/mo. To be priced that high, it better have some pretty incredible new features. I'd likely pay that price just to get a larger display and dual cameras in a form factor similar to my 4.7" iPhone 7.

OLED seems like a sure thing, so that should help battery life and image contrast. I hope the color accuracy is as good as the iPhone 7, which typically leads in that metric. I might be tempted to not upgrade if there is Touch ID on the back and no other way to authenticate from the front. Even so, rear Touch ID is ugly and off-putting. If they do wireless charging, I hope it's a new implementation and not just a power mat. But even fast charging would be a welcome improvement, as long as it doesn't adversely affect the battery life over time. It would also be nice if the camera was improved in other ways, such as sensitivity to light and dynamic range, while adding features such as 4K60 and even faster fps for even slower motion playback, such as 1080p240 and 720p480.

I am not sure why those who are stating they are going to jump ship due to this pricing haven't done so already. If price is that much of a concern for you (this proposed pricing isn't such a huge increase for most), then you should have switched years ago. I would never switch mainly because i prefer iOS to Android, and I don't see that ever changing. If you need a cheaper phone and are happy with Android, feel free. No one needs to know / cares. Apple isn't going to see your complaints and reduce the cost of their phone.

Lol :D
I hear you on that.
It's not the only company that offers such things nowadays.

None of that automatically shows up on my wife's laptop - sure I can set it up to do fancy things with Google but not without some work - and giving Google all my personal information.
I still prefer the way Apple does it.

I'm buying. I've already got the money saved up. I just need to have my iPhone 6 survive until then. The battery is a disaster and I don't want to pay to replace it.

Anyone who is on an online forum for a product that doesn't even exist yet and won't for 5 months is an automatic buy; I'd go so far as to say automatic midnight pre-order.

Automatic.

Don't kid yourselves.

Look.

I've had the iPhone since day one in 2007 and every top line model since then at at launch.

If I don't fork over the $$$ to buy the next one I break the chain.

It'll make me feel like those stupid chain letters that you get in your inbox that tell you something bad will happen if you don't forward it to ten people and blah, blah, blah.

Just can't break the chain no matter the cost....

My iPhone 7 Plus 128GB was $869 brand-new. $999 is about $130 more. If you're on a device payment plan, it translates to about $5 more every month. If you've already made the leap to pay the monthly cost for an $869 phone, $999 isn't gonna be that difficult to overcome. The jump is even shorter if you've got a 256gb model.
You can also put money down towards the phone to cut down the monthly cost for those who can't get the idea out of their heads.

Well the thread title did ask BUY or PASS? I think whoever started the thread does need to know/care.

I am always amazed at the rhetoric that pops up every time Apple gets into a release cycle with a proposed new phone and the amount of people with the current model standing in line with cask and credit cards in hand to purchase the "latest and greatest". If you have a current model 7 or 7+, why do you need a new phone? Just because, or??? I have a iPhone 7 with 128 gb storage and am on the upgrade program. At this point, I don't even see a reason to consider a higher priced phone when mine works fine. Maybe it's just me? At least I won't be in front o of you slowing down the new phone purchase process.
I'm with you. My 7 is just fine and works great. Don't see any reason to upgrade. That price is a real turn off. Be different if I really needed a phone but even then I'd consider a good used one. As always people will line up to get these.

Nah. For my line, I'd have to weigh whether the features are worth forgoing the $27/mo credit I'm getting with the iPhone 7 promo ($650 credit with trade-in but only if you keep the installment plan for the entire 24 months). In all likelihood, the answer is probably not (at least for me). My brother's iPhone 6 Plus has really poor battery life now though so he'll probably update.

The new generation iPad Pro 12.9 will likely be an instant preorder, though. Been wanting a bigger screen for reading comics.

Well it's not that difficult to understand. Up until now I have always considered the iPhone to be overall superior than galaxy phones (the closest competition), and the price isn't that much different to justify changing to an inferior phone (I don't even know the price for the past few galaxy phones since they don't appeal to me much). But for this update cycle it seems that may start to change, at least imo. I'm not paying 35% more for the iPhone 8 if the S8 is equally as good or better. Of course if September comes and Apple announces some awesome new phone I might think it's completely worth the price tag, but so far I'm not impressed by the rumors. And I am answering OP's question and now providing my reasons.

"No one needs to know / cares."

Lastly, this thread is about people discussing whether they are gonna buy or pass the new phone, you are in the wrong place if you don't wanna see people voicing their opinions.

People say they are jumping ship will not leave the iOS ecosystem, it's all talk.

I'm not going to jump ship, I have an Apple Watch that will become useless without an iPhone and I really like the ecosystem.
I'd stick with my 6s for another year, or buy the 7s after a few months when I'll find it with a $200 discount like it is happening now with iPhone 7

I would definitely buy it. Since I'm an iPhone lover, i don't see any reason to not buy it. Unless of course it hasn't changed anything from 7.

Thats only $30 than my 7+ 256gb... And I would be perfectly fine with 128gb. So it wouldn't be so much of a shock for me.

For me it's a matter of principle as well. I can afford a $1000+ phone but doesn't mean I'd buy it just because it's the latest and greatest. I need to measure the value a new device brings to me versus the cost.
If your exclusively an iPhone fan then your out of luck as far as going with a different manufacturer for the same eco-system. Android pricing runs on a wide ranging scale so you can pick one that fits your budget from a whole slew of device makers. With the newer Chinese manufacturers coming on line with their offerings you can get a flagship experience on a budget. With Apple you want a budget device you get an SE, and it's still not especially cheap. I can see the phone buying public looking for deals like newer used devices.
Having the latest and greatest all the time is becoming a status symbol. I used to do that but don't feel the need anymore. The current phones are fast enough and work well enough to keep me using the same one a lot longer than I did in the past. The minor upgrades do not justify paying more IMO unless my current phone is just falling apart.

If you like Android then might as well jump ship now. whatever hardware Apple is going to release will not even come close to the S8....But i can't stand Android so people like me buy whatever iPhone Apple gives us because iOS.

I figured this might happen, but I'll still upgrade regardless.

Edit: Reading that back makes me sound like an Apple sheep, lol.
