No way I'm paying that. This would be the end for us Apple, I'd rather go back to a flip phone than shell out that much cheddar for a phone. In the grand scheme of things, that's such a meaningless use of money.
I get you believe me, but phones are more than just phones these days.
The Iphone 7 has one of the fastest processors going(benchmarking as fast as some laptops?)and I assume
the Iphone 8 will be even faster. Pair a keyboard with that and you have a mobile computer, phone, camera, synth,
Music software controller, etc whatever else you want it to be.
So the galaxy 8/8Plus 64 gig is $750/$850..the current Iphone 7/7plus 128 is $749/$869.
So if the iPhone8 plus is $1099 for the 256 gig for 4 times the storage of the Samsung that seems pretty
reasonable for a premium device. Would $999 be better? Sure.
In any event we are way beyond the flip phone now :)

It is indeed the worst thing about it, but until the OS or apps start requiring more I can live with it.

I'm running a 5S, and as a power user I find lots of annoyances obviously. Mostly due to having a bunch of safari tabs open, and slow downs in google maps, and occasionally lagging in texting. Honestly it's running pretty damn well for an almost 4 year old device on the latest OS.

When I get the iPhone 8 I'm jailbreaking it with the first available version then never updating the OS. It'll probably last me 6 years or more lmao.

Thing is how many actually buy their phones outright? i think it's certainly a smaller amount than those who upgrade their contracts and contracts now are £50-60 here anyway. Bet it will still be around the same.

"I would rather get a Honda for reasons that remain my own but recognise and acknowledge that there are legitimate reasons why one might prefer a Ferrari and opt to get one instead."

Can we stop insulting the Japanese and Italians? iPhones are Chinese and are more like the Yugo of cars.

a $1000 phone is still cheaper than it costs just to use it.

$70/month for service (sprint) = $2.33 per day
2 year phone usage -- $1000/730 = $1.37 per day.

i'm not trying to say the phone in this example is a good deal.. just that it's still an ok deal if comparing to other costs involved.

if i buy a $1000 phone and finance it as i've done with a 6s, i figure my bill would go from $91.37 to $100.68 / month..

tbh, that's entirely swallowable.. or, at least normal.. for example, my rent goes up a lot more than that on a yearly basis.

Get ready for the backlash from people sick of Apple pandering to only the wealthy and elite. I myself am buying my first PC this weekend, I can't afford Apple anymore (especially for what they offer now: form > function) and am happy to finally downgrade. I feel we're reaching a tipping point with Apple.

The tipping point being don't buy a luxury phone ....

The way I see it from the replies on this thread there are a few very obvious groups:

There's people that can and will pay $1K for an iPhone. Some families I know upgrade at least two phones yearly and pass down their current ones to the relatives and friends. These people can comfortably spend that and much more. They are the ideal target audience for any company selling premium products and services.

There's people that can afford it but feel the iPhone is not worth that amount. Fair enough, their money, their call, right? Good that there are cheaper or equally expensive alternatives out there. My respect to you for keeping your feedback on point and respecting others! Feedback is what makes products better.

Then there's the ones that want it but can't afford it. S**t happens. No problem there.

And lastly there's the ones that whether they can afford it or not will moan about every little thing; the unreleased iPhone specs, Apple, actual Apple customers, Tim and Ive, other people's opinions, etc.

To the people that fall in this last group I thank you! I sincerely do, you make my day when I read how much it bothers you what others do with their own money and how you have the ego and audacity to decide what is worth anything to someone else just because you don't see value in it or can't comfortably spend that kind of money.

To go as far as to blame and insult, you know the ones, "suckers", "sheeple", "it is because of you..." hahaha seriously, love you guys!

Like I said before, can't wait to see what they actually release, fingers crossed it will be my next iPhone. ☺️

I would have not bought it regardless of the price as my iPhone 6s is less than a year old and going strong. I am just excited to see what they come up with.

Listen, it costs a lot of money to get rid of that pesky headphone jack and lose compatibility with 99% of the world's headphones. Innovation costs money!!!

Anything less than 64GB is a waste of time as apps continue to be bloated messes done by kids who couldn't write slimmer code if you threatened to pour hot lead up their bum.

Yep, I cringe every time these pimply braces-wearing twenteens release any new software. The only sure thing they seem to be able to get right out of the gate is gaming apps or monkey-on-monkey rating social media apps. You know...really "complex" rocket science stuff.

For me it depends on what it can do. If it has truly wireless charging, accurate iris scanning, , and has Touch ID on the back.

Why in the world do you want Iris scanning? You already give it your fingerprint what's next? You give it your blood to open your phone?!!! Why not? Give it your DNA. Do you realize what's started? It's satanic. It's pointless. It's invasion of privacy. Who wanted a camera in the front to begin with? Oh for selfies or did Big brother figure out a way to put a camera everywhere? And have you willingly be okay with it. Orwellian times are here. That's why that book was pushed to begin with. It's conditioning. Prophecy.
I say get rid of your iphones. Get rid of your dependency on Apple android PC etc... it's turning us into slaves.

I can't believe how blind I was for so many years. Finally woke up when I heard about "Iris Scanning". That's the last straw. I mean think about it. Wtf?! Honestly. Is anyone else bothered the least bit with this?

You do have a few very defendable points there but you are going to need a hell of a lot more than a rant on a geek forum to get it to take off.

I stand behind you though, I see the big picture issue clear as day too.

Sounds like a bit of paranoia going on, but hey... whatever floats your boat. I would never use the iris scanner myself mainly because I wear glasses and I am sure that would be hit and miss. I do like the quick fingerprint as it has made things much for convenient for so many apps.

In regards to the pricing... I think it's crazy for them not to offer up a 64gb version and they still may. We are dealing with rumors!

don't see the point of a $1000 phone anymore... seriously, what does it do that's new? same rehash of a phone except that they update the screen that samsung has had for yrs now. sadness

I have got a 64GB 6S right now, which I got subsidized from ATT on contract in Sep 2015. Since ATT doesn't offer subsidized phones anymore, I will be using my iPhone 6S for another year or more. I have already broken the contract with ATT over their increase to Unlimited data price. Once my current phone is unusable, I will buy the cheapest available iPhone at the time(7S maybe). Past year phones are available at significant discounts. Don't need the latest. The pricing is getting out of hand.

Apple often invests in new machines for manufacturing and quite a lot . And i would not call an a11 , an off the shell part, same as the 3d printed pcb that is new and first used tech, etc. All i am saying is that things are quite different with this iphone 8.
[doublepost=1494675457][/doublepost]

All phone companies invest in new machines for manufacturing and customise PCB's to some extent for their phones. Yet the Samsung S8 is not costing £1000+ and its has all the same features and tech supposedly coming to the iPhone 8.

The A series CPU whilst designed by Apple for the iPhone, the underlying technology is licensed from ARM Holdings. The GPU is also licensed technology from Imagination Technologies.

The price for the iPhone has always been way over the top... I mean look at the profit Apple makes each quarter. They now have close to 300 billion in cash in overseas accounts. They are absolutely a greedy lot there is no doubt about it. Nonetheless we continue to buy them. Fortunately my company provides mine and they still do offer subsidizing on business accounts. Though I haven't had a contract for like 4 years now.

I agree but the alternatives still bother me more (PCs and Windows/Linux), so I'm kind of trapped.

I have to deal with Windows/Linux based machines at work. I'd rather have my eye yanked out than to have to deal with either of those at home. You can still get deals on Apple Computers... you just have to be patient and they will come. No doubt you can buy some crap Windows machine for little of nothing, but you get what you paid for.

On this days 256GB is not enough, Apple needs to release a 512GB and a 1TB iPhone

There is the problem and next year someone will want 1024 GB and the base will be 256GB LOL. Too bad apple charges such a premium for more storage space. $1489 for 512GB you ready to buy it? hehehe
