I was going to get the Galaxy S8 but I'll wait to see what happens in the fall. I would prefer to stay in the Apple ecosystem if possible.

Not when you look at the cost of the parts being used, which are, with the knowledge so far on 'all' the previous iPhone models, way beneath the actual cost of the given device.

In short, the iPhone is a wonderful piece of technology and I've no doubt this iPhone 8 will fall within the same category, but to claim that an smartphone is genuine well worth $1000,-, or even more, is like stating that Trump has enough intellect to be a president of the United States.
[doublepost=1494745387][/doublepost]

No, Apple isn't like Ferrari. Because a Ferrari comes with a cost but last for decades. The iPhone comes with a higher prize tag and last for a few years before it becomes obsolete.
[doublepost=1494745863][/doublepost]I don't mind that Apple., or any phone company, is charging that much money for a smartphone. They are free to do so. Just like I'm free to decide that the cost of a $1000,- + smartphone doesn't match up with the value you get for it. The 'highest end' iPhone becomes more and more a smartphone for the elite, the rich folks who couldn't care less and just like to pay extra money because of the branding that comes along with it, like people willing to pay extra bugs for a leather bag which is the same leather as other leather bags but has a more famously known brand behind it.

It's just a matter of perception and what you, as a person, would willingly like to pay for a smartphone. I always buy a iPhone for myself and my girlfriend, but I'm not going to spend more then €2000,- euro's for two replacement smartphones knowing I could make a great vacation trip with that kind of moneyer buy a laptop with it which gives us even way more power for it's money then any smartphone out there.

I'll probably go with the iPhone 8 tough, but after the iPhone 9 has been released and the iPhone 8 will get a prize tag that does justice for the actual cost to make the device.
Of course, that's a given and true of many products. While I said it was very realistic pricing, I didn't say it was worth the money.

They should probably raise it even higher. If they have the iPhone 7S priced to compete against the Galaxy S8/S8+ and possibly S9/S9+ they might as well take the iPhone 8 much higher.

People will pay anything to get an iPhone. Apple would be smart to get as much as they can. I'd say they would still sell very well at $1200-1400 USD.

Should at least be $2000.00 - $2400.00 (US) as a starting price. It already has mass appeal so sell it like it is - as a premium luxury phone. Include 50GB of iCloud storage and a 2 year AppleCare and offer a deal for an additional $299 for a third year of AppleCare and another 50GB iCloud storage on top of that. Bam! Instant China sales! /s

Actually, by the Fall, the Note 8 will be here and it should be rather interesting to see how the competition between both of those rivals compare.

Given Apple's price jumps for their new MacBook Pro, I'm not doubting these prices for a minute. Problem is there's not 3 years of pent up demand for these to gouge for. Honestly besides all the hype about OLED blah blah that Samsung has been putting in their Galaxy phones since at least 2011 to my knowledge, maybe slightly easier wireless charging that really won't change your life I bet, these phones still have the same iOS and run the same apps as my nearly 3 year old iPhone 6. But yeah go ahead and pay $1000 for it.

Meanwhile the honor 8, while not suited for everyone, is a great phone and sells for $399.99

Given the sheer power of most smartphones today (spec wise) economics are going to come into play now more than at any point before. Sure you may prefer the OS and the other additional bell's and whistle's but is that preference worth $600? Increasingly for some... that's going to be no.

I can live with the price. The base model had better not be 64GB at that price though. I have a 7+ 128 and would like to have just the same size. I don't want 64 and I don't want to pay for 256.

64 would be the new 16 and sort of embarrassing. Though who am I kidding I will buy 256 if that is what it comes to. Won't be thrilled about it but such is life.

I Disagree. It depends on the features that the phone offers that the user wants to utilize. Also, you have to take in account that some consumers refuse to use any other phone other than the iPhone, not just because of the ecosystem, because how well the device is made, supported through continuous updates /continuity and lasts. Apple is notorious for making hardware that easily outlast the competition and well past its own expectancy. If Apple continues to make the iPhone as efficient as it is, that's reason off for some and justifiable for a price point.

Oh yay. Currently iPhone 7+ 128GB in US store $869. Price in Finland: 1029e (~$1126). So we can expect the iPhone 8 price here to be around $1300 - but it never stays the same. It'll probably be between 1300-1500e for the 128GB model which means it doesn't matter if it has full week battery, I'm not going to pay that much for a phone unless it's also a coffee maker and a personal teleporter.

BETTER BRING BACK CARRIER SUBSIDIES AT THESE INSANE PRICES! What is Apple smoking?!

Yes, because that is FREE MONEY SOMEONE IS DONATING YOU! Oh, wait. It's not. Enjoy your nearly $100/mo LTE plans, I stick to my $22/mo for unlimited full rate LTE data. Then again, I pay full price for my phone. But I rather do it that way.

and...... you're not wrong! You made valid points that will be super important for a load of people, including most users of this forum I suspect.

I just hope Apple do something for people that are a little more price sensitive... maybe something along the lines of the SE.

Completely agree. The iPhone SE was one of the best moves Apple has made within the last year. And there one of the only manufactures that still manufactures a 4 inch Phone. And that gives the target demographic for those who want to smaller form factor, keeps those individuals in Apples ecosystem for an affordable price point.

this is just ridiculous. $1,000 for a phone? go chase yourself apple.

i hope this puts a lot of people off buying an iphone so apple will stop charging stupid prices but i would just be kidding myself on. apple could take a **** in a box and people would pay any price apple put on it.

i know i sound like an iphone hater right now but i don't hate the phones. i think they are great and i really really want to get an iphone again but with prices like this is i just can't justify it anymore when you can get phones in the region of £150-300 that perform just as well.

Yeah yeah you all wont be buying it if its priced at 1000$/€+. But lets be honest, if it actually is, the lines will still be the same, people will still wait for one or even more months for their pre-ordered iPhone and people will still buy it in masses. THis is Apple and people are mesmerized by it, especially when they see on the news the "revolutionairy" bezzeless screen and shiny new design. Plus let's look it from a different angle - pricing it that high will actually make it a luxurious product so that will be another bonus and reason for many people to buy it, even if it exceeds their income.

Of course it will still sell, but not in the numbers the iPhone 6 enjoyed. $999/£800 is obscene.

too expensive for a communications mobile device

I'd add, too expensive for a device you put in your pocket and can be broken/stolen quite easily.
I have no problem in spending more than $1000 on a Mac since I can use it for 5-6 years and enjoy great performances (I still use my 2012 MBA) but even if the iPhone is the device I use the most during the day $1000 is just too much.
iPhone has become so expensive I may move to a 3 years upgrade cycle instead of buying a new one every other year. It just doesn't make sense to spend that amount of money so often

Well with this (and similar) kind(s) of logic(?), let's hope Apple prices it at $2,000... no $5,000.... no $10,000.

If they priced it at $100,000, maybe only the people that bought the Big Baller Brand shoes for $495/pair would buy the phone. THAT would really be an elite & exclusive group.

How about $1,000,000 per phone so that the owners could feel they own a really luxurious phone and be the envy(?) of all who see them with it? Then Apple wouldn't have to go to the trouble of making so many either, which might solve the "out of stock" problem too.

Who am I kidding? Why not just price it at $infinity and buyers are then obligated to send every dollar they make, find, steal to Apple for the rest of their lives... and their descendants are obligated for the entirety of their lives... forever & ever. After all, Apple deserves it. This is the courageous & magical, tenth anniversary phone. Unless the price is $infinity, there's still room for (profit) improvement. Might as well get it now. Sounds like there's at least some who will rationalize just any price Apple decides to charge... and even work hard trying to convince others about the relative bargain (at any price).

For younger people, it's more than just a mobile device. It's something they use for literally 4+ hours a day, every day. It's their camera, communicator, computer, audio and video consumer, banking & wallet, social life and basically everything else.

I have heard these rumors and I am not sure what I want to do. I did last year purchase my phone on the iPhone upgrade program but not entirely sure that $1100 - $1200 is worth it for a new phone. Not when I will be able to pay off my iPhone 7 Plus for around $500 and still have a great phone. Even when I paid that much last year I was a little wary of it. I will have to see what I am getting for top dollar.
