Did the Retina Screen of the iPhone 4 increase the price $200 or $300? No. iPhone price stayed the same as previous years one.

Did the TouchID of the iPhone 5S increase the price $200 or $300? No. iPhone price stayed the same as previous years one.

Both were mayor breakthrough features at that time as it it's the all front screen of the iPhone 8.

iPhone 7 is currently $649.

SO WHY ARE PEOPLE ARE TALKING SO NORMALLY ABOUT THE IPHONE 8 BEING $350 MORE THAN THE PREVIOUS ONE???

Nearly a 50% price increase? Come on! Why aren't you criticizing Apple? Assuming that the next's years iPhone can have a 50% price increase and staying like that is a total nonsense.

Each years iPhone has got new features. It's normal. It's a new device. But the price stayes mostly the same. Other manufactures release new phones with new features and they leave the price where it it's.

Macrumors, 9to5mac, Engadget etc. should better be writing opinion articles of why a $1000 iPhone would be and error and why the new iPhone's price is expected to stay the same.

Technology prices normally lower every year, new TVs are mostly cheaper every year, new laptops are cheaper. New things today are always released at a lower price than new things were released at their time.

Apple news are rumors nowadays have become 'Apple has yielding issues', 'Apple is struggling to produce', 'Apple won't introduce a expected feature', 'Apple delays', 'Apple won't be able to do something', etc, etc

Ps: Don't talk me about GB capacity. Storage pricing between 32GB-64GB-128GB is minimal although Apple makes people think storage prices change by $100 when it doubles.

Why u are comparing the entry level iPhone 7 with the top model iPhone 8?

iPhone 7 Plus with 128 GB cost now $869 which is $130 more, not $350.

That is the same price that they claimed the original iPad was going to be - and it turned out to be half. The biggest enhancement seems to be the screen and OLED is quite mature at this point - so Apple should be able to get good prices for that. Also, the dual camera module has already been sold - at a much lower price point.

I'm doubting this price. Perhaps they will reposition the iPhone 7 as the low cost, and have iPhone 8 and 8+ at the old iPhone 7 price points.

This is getting ridiculous. I'm getting fed up with Apple. The outrageous pricing on the MacBook Pros with a generation old processors. Got the XPS 15 and it's blazing fast, Windows 10 has caught up to macOS and is better in some ways, and it was literally $1000 cheaper than the comparable MBP. Will probably get whatever the current OnePlus is when I need a new phone because I can't justify paying these ridiculous prices for something that isn't that much better than the competition at this point.

By coincidence, I'm reading this about two hours after I replaced the (original) battery in the iPhone 3G I've been using as an alarm clock since I upgraded to an iPhone 4. (The 4, sad to say, later had a very unfortunate ride in a washing machine.)

So, if you amortize a thousand bucks over a decade...

that's PURE GREED,and definition of anti-consumerism.
there is no way they can justify this.
hope it's not true.
the way OLED iPhone is mentioned in this articles..so frustrating as if OLED was a new invention..Samsung was making OLED phones forever, before Steve Job passed away..even their low end phones were OLED.I mean it all looks like a plan to have excuse to double the iPhone's price all the sudden.
F that,I will NEVER pay $1000 for a freaking phone.no one should.

aka lets spend more so you can afford to buy crap you couldnt afford in the first place? haha

Not my concern if someone can't afford something. Then don't buy it. Use good judgment. But plenty of options exist for people to easily afford something that they may not be able to actually pay for in full at the time of purchase.

iPhone 7 is currently $649.

It's not being compared to the iPhone 7. It's being compared to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Which is the correct comparison to make.

Sweet spot for me would be $799 for a 64GB model. That's still $75 over a comparable Galaxy S8 with a 5.8" screen, but I'm willing to pay a reasonable premium to preserve my investment in Apple's ecosystem and also be confident the device will remain current for at least three years.

Not sure if I would pay $899 for a 128GB as I just don't need it. I've still got 36GB available on my 64GB 6+. For sure $1,000 for something that has a smaller usable screen than what I have now isn't going to happen. At that point my 6+ will have to last another year.

I'm sure Apple has a multitude of analysts running various scenarios of what proposed prices will do to sales, revenue, profits, and future growth. We'll see what happens when they announce in September.

This will be important to maybe hold off till there are BestBuy or other promos for the product. Im wondering if this could be the product a few will go after in pre-order or are we all fanatic enough to just do it? Also first production units of a "special new" device...tough call

I'm not one to short, but if I was, I'm pretty sure I'd be short AAPL. The stock seems to be following a trajectory where Jobs is at the helm and Apple is still making innovative products instead of just trying to do everything they can to piss owners off. There's going to be a massive correction the moment sales plateau.

Apple isn't Samsung. Apple is a premium brand. If OLED cost them more, they'll charge more. IMO, they could go even higher if they wanted to.

iPhone 7 - 750
iPhone SE 500

Iphone 8 - 1,000.

Wow, that's quite a jump. Not something I'm willing to pay that much money for a phone.

Agreed. I paid $185 for my SE and I will not give that up to pay $1000 for an iPhone 8. I do believe that Apple will release a more respectably priced iPhone 8, perhaps around $750-$800. People were expecting the GS8 to be really high priced and it came out at $750. Apple can still have strong margins and a more competitive price point.

And yet their have been no rumours about the 7S. Their are no leaks to back up this idea.
There have been quite a few rumors on this site and others about the 7S. Here is a pretty decent summary of the 7S rumors. No idea if those stories are accurate, but the rumors are certainly out there.

Let me if people willing to spend $1000 for every two years for a new phone..

There are people that do that multiple times a year, except at the $750-$800 range and the flip their old phone for a sum through Swappa, eBay Craigslist, etc.

Phones offer similar function that I would rather spend less to get more these days. I have the S8 because I pay $36 a month to jump to another phone (5 months would cost me $180, plus got the Gear VR with Controller at a value of $140 MSRP), so I am not breaking the bank to use Samsung's latest and greatest until I upgrade to the iPhone 8 or Note 8 via trade in on a 2 year EIP contract via T-Mobile using my S7 as my trade in.

The reason why Apple can do this today is because no one, except the handful of suckers who buy unlocked at full retail and think they are beating the system, will see it as $1000. It is $49/mon for 12 months, then trade up and continue.

I do agree with you about this working because people fool themselves with a $50/month charge.

But why do you think people are suckers for buying a device for $1000 and not suckers for renting the same device for a year for $600?

I'd hate to imagine the cost of the iPhone 8 elsewhere and here in Australia.

As these phones get more hardware stuff,, so do the cost goes up.... and we will still buy. When you think these expensive phones,, a contract may not sound too bad anymore..

Why?

Because Apple released a bigger iPhone 6 to price it $100 more?

Why the iPhone 8 should be the new Plus iPhone and not the new normal one?

Even if you agree on it being the new Plus model... and that the current 7 Plus is $769 ($120 more than a 7 and that's already a 18% more than the 7).....why people think the base iPhone 8 is acceptable to cost $899???

A $999 base iPhone 8 would be a 30% PREMIUM OVER THE base 7 Plus
A $999 base iPhone 8 would be a 53% PREMIUM OVER THE base 7

Even a $899 base iPhone u would be a 16% premium over the base 7 Plus or 38% premium over the base 7.

A $769 base iPhone 8 would be the higher base iPhone 8 acceptable price. But I'd find it better if it would fit between the $649 base 7 and the $769 base 7 Plus.

Base Storage capacity is not important since Apple tends to double the capacity each one or two generations without increasing the cost.

All of my purchases of Apple products are paid for with money from Apple dividends from owning a relatively small amount of stock.
I suggest this strategy for others who appreciate the ios/OS ecosystem but don't like the prices. A share of stock costs $155. Start small and build over time. At 2,000 shares Apple will pay you about $5,000 a year that you can use to buy products.

The iPhone 6s+ 64 gig came out at $1310 with taxes here (Canada). And that was $850 in the US. I can't imagine it being that much under $2000 taxes in if they're $999US for the base low memory model.
