I already have a 7+ on the Apple upgrade program and it cost $869 for the 128GB version and it's $41.58/month.

Not sure what my plans are until I know what's going to be the actual price. Not liking the idea of Touch ID on the back though.

The reason why Apple can do this today is because no one, except the handful of suckers who buy unlocked at full retail and think they are beating the system, will see it as $1000. It is $49/mon for 12 months, then trade up and continue.

Totall Agree. With the current exchange rate ($1==£1) that apple seems to use and VAT(20%).... £1400+ for a frigging phone?

Sorry Apple, not going to play ball. Keep the price with VAT under £1000 and you will sell a hell of a lot more phones.
Otherwise once the Fanbois' have been satisfied, it will be tumbleweed in the iPhone sales department.

How did you come up with those numbers?

Yikes, we pay $38 per month per phone for verizon unlimited with taxes/fees. I prefer $30 but need 4 more peeps to join the plan to get there. T mobile has horrible coverage here...
The coverage isn't great but not horrible. They said extended LTE is coming here later this summer so we'll see how it improves. Can't beat a $50/mo phone bill for 3 lines!

BETTER BRING BACK CARRIER SUBSIDIES AT THESE INSANE PRICES! What is Apple smoking?!

I don't understand this line of thinking. It's a pocket computer that most people use and depend upon MORE than their desktop machines, which have a higher cost. Yet people expect phones to be cheap??? Makes no sense at all.

Stop calling it iPhone 8. When the follow up to the 7S is released, these threads are going to get confused. The special anniversary edition iPhone will have a unique name.

I would hope people not purchase the devices at that price. It's insane for something that has an annual refresh cycle.

Unfortunately, people will eagerly go into debt or use the various carrier financing (lease / lease to-own / etc) options which will maintain Apple's pricing.

iPhone is not built on an annual refresh rate. That's why Apple supports at least 4 versions of iPhone with new iOS releases. Most people do not upgrade every year.

It's really people like us on sites like this that generally upgrade every year, because we are tech geeks or pompous prestigious people who want to be notice for having the newest, most expensive thing.

We are just keeping up with the Jones, who apparently have endless amounts of money.

Price seems about right.

I assure you Apple does not do pricing research off internet forums. :p
No of course not. They watch their competitor (Samsung) and make sure they're priced above them to maintain the "premium feel"

Not at all unexpected, thanks to Samsung upping the price on the S8. Apple and Samsung are like how Verizon and AT&T were, copying each others' moves jacking up prices, until TMo came along. Unfortunately, LG is not the TMo of the big three to put pressure on Apple and Samsung.

Even at the $1k price point, people will still rush to get in line for one. And that will continue to drive up the stock price even closer to the $1trillion Market Cap. I think I'll hold off on this craziness and use the money to buy a few measly shares of APPLE Stock and sell them in a year's time and buy the next version using my gains. No money lost!

If the 7splus and 8 have the same features, I'm probably sticking with the plus. Nothing to do with pricing, just first gen jitters with that OLED.

I don't mind this price if it delivers substantial value over other products on the market. Real or not, if it does not deliver equivalent if not more than what Samsung S8 provides, will be an Android user before the end of the calendar year.

I have to agree with a previous poster— I don't see the justification for such a high price based on the rumors. Even if the godPhone 8 comes with *everything* rumored, it still doesn't warrant that very premium price IMO. Unless, of course, there's something(s) huuuge about it that we don't know of yet.

My iPhone 7+ 256 was very close to 1k? So why is another 100 such a big deal?

Go give all your data to Google. If you prefer an inferior OS then be happy! For me, the 6S still works as a great smartphone, which also has full headphone compatibility via a jack, so anything less for me is a downgrade.

and its that price that will make me stop buying apple products after 21 years of being loyal customer. First the iPad Pro and now potentially this.

This is not the same Steve Jobs Apple I used to know

Thank goodness for JoD through T-Mobile. Trade in deals exist too. I will not pay up full MSRP for an iPhone 8, that's for sure. A lot of people here will not be paying up the full MSRP for the phone either. T-Mobile could offer a trade up offer to get the phone for like $200-$300 on a 24 month installment plan via bill credits.
