The iPhone camera is years behind the competition. Check out the right column for ratings. Portrait mode is cool but superior IQ is king.

5 years ago everybody here said nobody cares about camera quality in a phone. Now they're acting like it's the most important thing.

It seems that the "must-have feature" goalpoasts move all the time to accomodate anti-Apple rhetoric. The more Apple catch up or overtake in areas, the more people argue those areas are inconsequential.

These days it simply doesn't matter. Most people wouldn't know the difference and iPhone ads are pretty slick in regards to the camera. For your average suburban family puttering around on phones there is no clear winner.

From here on out there won't ever be again. There is no difference on FB and real photographers have their own kit. We are becoming close to the day where the line is blurred.

That statement blows my mind

$1299? Apple has trouble increasing the price of the current iPhone models now, how in the world do you increase the price 100% if you're having issues increasing now

Easily. We are talking about the 256gb model. IPhone 7 Plus 256gb retails at $969 (US). The "iPhone X" should not be confused with iPhone 7 (4.7"). It will be the top-of-the-line model, above the forthcoming iPhone 7S Plus.

Therefore: new design, 256gb = at least $969 + $200, probably more.

$1299 is not a 100% increase over $969.

Pricing most likely will be as follows:

iPhone 7S = 32GB $649, 128GB $749, 256GB $849
iPhone 7S Plus 32GB$769, 128GB $869, 256GB$969
iPhone X 64GB = 1069
iPhone X Pro 256GB = 1169

Unfortunately, that is where everything stands...

Until Apple gets their act together with the desktops, I'm sticking with my 6S, regardless of whatever cool features they add. If 10M other people would do the same, we might have some leverage!

I have a 7 plus and 3gb of ram is nice, but I often find myself switching to a laptop because my phone can't handle certain websites. I think 4gb of ram would've been better, most phones have it.
I have a 5s with 1GB of ram and I have no idea what websites you're visiting.

You have no leverage nobody ties their desktop purchases to their phone purchases.

I don't see why they have to be so constantly stingy on the ram no matter how optimized it is.

I've been consistent in my desire for the best quality camera possible.

Yes, I have a nice camera kit. But the ONLY camera I carry 99% of the time is my iPhone camera, so it needs to be as good as possible.

I also must add that it's rather silly of you to accuse me of being "anti-Apple." I look around my room and see about $5000 of Apple products. You sound like a raving fanboi.

3 gb on iOS is generally better than 4 gb on Android, btw. Much more efficient with RAM.

The camera is great on the 7 plus. Top 3 camera on a smart phone. The difference is very small between the best cameras.

To call it years behind is foolish. There are all on par with each other.

No they're not. The iPhone's image sensor is significantly smaller than those used by Samsung and Google. Low light performance suffers, as does detail since so much NR is required in processing.

What I want the most is a better display to phone size ratio and a generally lighter and smaller Plus model. Pretty satisfied with everything else really: display, thinness, performance, even battery life on the Plus is fine. Just give me a smaller phone (à la Samsung) than the current Plus surfboard with the same display size and I'll be a very happy camper.

So now Apple makes average products for the average suburban rube? Then why the premium prices?

Yes they are, I've had both the S7 edge and the got the 7 plus. Pixel is the best to me and you can argue the S7 edge is slightly better but there is not much of a difference at all.

Gotta start saving up

Why ?? the iPhone for life "device only" expense schedule will simply go from $45.70 /month to $56.75 /month, only $11 more more so or $44 for fam of 4..doable. Just don't fund retirement and have the best phone Apl makes.
