Not adding 4GB is a little disappointing. I really haven't seen anything (yet) that makes me want to upgrade my 128 GB 7 Plus, which is still the best iPhone I've ever owned.

I have a 256Gb 7 Plus and it's also the best phone I ever own but I am still looking forward for the 8. Just for the speed boost and the new shape.

Regarding the iPad Pro, I think Apple will go 10.5 inch in 9.7 inch body this year followed by an 8.7 inch in 7.9 inch body and 13.7 inch in 12.9 inch next year.

Gotta love the intentional upgrade bait when it comes to storage sizes. Cant really fault Apple though, look at the Pixel.

I always get the max storage. Saves any regrets.

I'm still using my 6+ 128GB, but will get the 8 in September.

I do too! I probably could have gotten away with 128GB on my 7 Plus, but I dont want to feel trapped. And I want to keep my 7 Plus for at least 2 years

They could have long ago put the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone, as one naturally holds ones forefinger at the back of the phone anyway when holding the phone, and move the front camera, speaker etc right to the top in a single row (currently almost 1 cm away from top, below each other), resulting in almost 3 cm more screen space altogether. Face recognition will be the ultimate, but it will have its downsides for now (until cameras etc improves) like when it is dark, backlight etc, while the finger print sensor works quite well by now, no need to dump this great technology (yet).

Yes they are, I've had both the S7 edge and the got the 7 plus. Pixel is the best to me and you can argue the S7 edge is slightly better but there is not much of a difference at all.

I see a significant difference once I start cropping photos. If you check review sites and A/B the photos from each phone, the iPhone clearly lags in IQ. It used to be close but it's fallen way behind as iPhone competitors have moved on to larger image sensors.

I'm still on the 6+, little things are starting to act goofy now on it (mute switch issue, battery life is really down now) my 64GB storage was never an issue..but I know I'll have to upgrade with this, especially with 4K video. So I'm really starting to look forward to 8. If the rumors are true...3GB Ram, 3D front HD cam w/ facial recognition, OLED..etc etc. Only concern right now is the PRICE - for the top of the line 8 Plus / Pro, whatever it might be called.

Only suspecting right now of course...this could push well over $1200, maybe $1500+[/QUOTE]

The iPhone camera is years behind the competition. Check out the right column for ratings. Portrait mode is cool but superior IQ is king.

Chasing camera specs is many times the domain of people who are more into camera ownership rather than photography and making photographs.

Compelling photographs come from the photographer, where life experiences, imagination, curiosity, skill, etc come into play in a synergistic manner.

I have dSLRs and my 6+ phone. It makes little difference which I use. But my phone is always with me.

You know there are photo sharing sites right like Flicker? We get it you like B&W and are a decent photographer.

It's beyond me why Apple limits iOS with using ram only. I have 65GB of solid state storage and yet iOS will not utilize any of that memory if it runs into a low memory situation, no it unloads open Safari web pages and open Apps to continue to run the current App, then when the user switches back to that background Safari or App it has to start up the App or reload the same web pages using valuable cellular data making the user pay once more for the same web page he just paid for a few minutes ago.

I sold my DSLR a couple years ago and replaced it with "bridge" camera and couldn't be happier. It does all I need it to do (and more) and I saved thousands. In my estimate the only people who really need DSLRs are some professionals and for everyone else it's just a dingus waving contest. I also have a 6 Plus and it's the camera I use the most because it's always with me.

But here's the deal: if I'm going to pay a premium price for a phone then I a want competitive camera. Not an "average" camera or a "good enough" camera (relative to other smartphones, of course). The problem is when Apple charges $800 yet image quality is on par with 2 year old used Samsung Galaxys you can find on ebay.

Open up an app that gives you a stock quote.

You mean the premium price is because the iPhone can run stock quote apps better than the competition? lol.

Face recognition cannot replace the Touchid at the moment. How can the camera see you in the dark? If it 'not just works', Apple will not implement it without Touchid yet.

You did read it's supposed to also have an IR camera as part of its 3D facial recognition system? Besides, right now what it is and how it works - and how reliability it works- is nothing more than speculation right now. Although I'm sure that Apple is testing iPhone Next, until customers have it and configure it for themselves the real reliability of the hardware and software won't be known. Not even by Apple. Tests never replicate the hardware, software, and usage that millions of customers will put on the phone. This isn't a slam, it's a fact for anyone releasing a new or heavily revised product.

I signed up for Apple's monthly payment plan that allows an exchange to a new phone every year. Guess I'm already justifying their s**t and happy to do it. Laugh it up, fuzzball, I care not

Yes and your plan will go up in price. Significantly.

But people have been overall pleased with the iPhone every year for 10 years. Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume this new iPhone will be great? The A11 and the more efficient use of screen & phone size are enough for me !

Even if it costs you $1500+?

I'm still having trouble picturing how they'll squeeze a bigger than 7+ screen size into the 4.7" form factor. Are the bezels on the current 7 really that big?

Will they keep the same screen ratio or move wider again? Wider would be cool for films but most TV is still only 16:9 so you'd have side bars on a wider screen.

I sent Apple feedback ages ago saying that I wanted 1080p resolution in the 4.7" phone. I don't mind if they bump up the size of the 4.7" phone slightly but I find the 7+ a bit too bulky. So this new iPhone 8 could be ideal.

I'd just like to see some more diagrams showing how they can actually make it work!

Most DLSR cameras have 4K video capacity, which along with the interchangeable lenses make for extremely good video recorders beyond what a phone can do.

Nice. Phone cameras as we know are fraught with limitations, although what they do well they do well and compactness is one of the positives. Just got my son a 7100 with accessories as he was interested in learning the art of photography with a dslr.

No mention on if the "iPhone 8" will have a dual camera like the 7 plus has yet. Hmmm. I wonder if that's the thing that will keep people buying the 7s plus after the iPhone 8 is announced along side it. Personally, I think they should give the smaller iPhone 7s a dual camera as well. Space limitations be damned! Tired of seeing Apple's smaller iOS devices get short changed with features just because of their size. That's size-ism!

Flickr? I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

I do like B&W and enjoy posting photographs on threads that have to do with photography. If you don't, please feel free to ignore or block me.

I wonder how the 3GB of RAM in the Plus models vs 2GB in the smaller models will effect the longevity of these devices. Will the Plus models with 3GB of RAM last longer than the smaller counterparts with less RAM?
