Not happy at all I could care less about wireless charging. I don't want it now I can't use my phone while it charging cause it has to sit on a charger not my idea of wireless if u ask me. So guess I can't charge my phone when I'm on a 12 he plane flight easily anymore. Ugh give me a

They are trying their hardest to make people mad.

1. Adopting a gimmick charging system years after everyone else.
2. Not being able to plug the phone in to a new MacBook Pro out of the box.

Well actually they haven't done anything. All this is speculation from some Analysts for some investors who are trying to get people to by Stock from Potential Suppliers. The only ones that are talking are those that are not part of the Party Apple is holding, because if they where than you wouldn't be hearing anything.

well - if it is bezel-less it will have a very nice physical footprint. i went from 6S to 7 plus, mostly because of the dual-camera. getting used to it but when trying a regular iphone 4.7 i'm quite convinced that a bezel free 5" is a sweet spot - at least for me.

This better not be true. First they force me to get used to a huge 5.5 device to get the latest and now they want me to actually GO BACK to a "tiny" 5.0 just to get the best device? Stupid

DITCH THE LIGHTNING PORT. JUST GIVE ME A USB-C PORT APPLE. PLEASE!!!!!
I fail to understand why most of you want an USB-C port over a lightning port in the phone.

Since the phone will never use any of the really interesting features of USB-C why not keep the physically FAR FAR superior lightning port instead?
It plugs in WAY WAY easier, it's way more robust and it's even much better looking :)

Regarding the other end of the cable: Who cares if you use USB-A or C?

Why would anyone have to, really? I haven't plugged mine in for any reason in at least 5 years.
I'm in the same boat and so is my tech illiterate wife, in-laws, sister, and parents. I would imagine more people use iCloud for their syncing needs than plug them in these days. Mobile devices are the most used form of personal technology by a long shot.

I agree with five-years-ago Phil. If wireless requires a pad, I don't see the point.

There is zero advantage to wireless if you need to have a pad is so true. If apple adopts USBc they'd also need even more adapters for all the current lightning stuff.

They've dug a hole for themselves now that is going to create even more rub for consumers if they do more changes.

I hope they have charging like the Apple Watch but keep lightning. Considering the MacBook USBc use I hope we get a brick with a USBc to USBc cable.

Real wireless charging to me is when you could walk around your house or outside, and the phone will constantly be charging. I really don't see the point of having a system you have to plug in and a base station you have to lay your phone on. Sure, it may look cleaner...but it's really the same as having to use a cable to plug in your phone at night to charge it. Especially if it will charge the phone SLOWER than the wired method. If I'm traveling, I'm not going to pack a base station, I'm just going to bring my wired charger. I just don't see the point.

If the 7s & Plus is really just a 6sss (i.e. no real updates) sales could be dour...hopefully for Apple's sake they deliver this low cost wireless charging tech on all 3 models. Apple should also avoid looking cheap (and saving $0.50 per iPhone) by cutting adaptors and chords...those are little things that gradually alienate your customers.

If the Qi standard call is correct, it will mean we can use the colorful Nokia charging plates (Qi charging standard if memory serves) they made, which I always liked:

I for one do not anticipate wanting to spend $1100 on a repackaged Galaxy Note 7 or S8 with iOS and proprietary nonsense.

Well, I guess people would prefer Apple converting to use-c across all their products, because then you will only need ONE cable to attach your phone & peripherals when traveling.

Wouldn't it be nice if the new MBPs and all upcoming new Macs already had the long-distance charging built in and worked with the yet forth-coming iPhone8s?

Then there would not be a need for the inclusion of any USB-C cables.

None of this is surprising. Whatever technology they end up using for wireless charging isn't going to be cheap so no way they would ever include it in the box. Taking out the headphone adaptor isn't surprising either, it was miraculous that they even included it in the box with the 7 and 7 Plus. It's only a $9 dongle. If you really need one just buy one. Same with the Lightning to USB-C cable if you deem that you need one to connect to your computer then buy one. Majority of people just use the included cable to charge their phone and all the adaptors in cars, walls, etc are still USB-A.

If you want Apple to really include all that stuff in the box they would be charging you extra for it. This way you save money if its something you really don't want to use or need. Do you really want Apple to charge an extra $100+ for each iPhone model just so every single one ships with the wireless charging accessories, USB C cables/adaptors, and headphone dongle?

USB-C is also never going to be a port on iOS devices. It's not going to happen. Whatever comes after Lightning, if anything, will be something different. What Apple needs to do is bring the faster USB 3 or 3.1 speeds to the lightning ports and cables across the iOS line instead of just the bigger iPad Pro and SD/USB adaptors.

iPhones already cost around £900. If they are releasing three models, the two based on the design we already have would be for people who wouldn't want to spend £1000+ on the premium model which'd include a brand new design.

I don't think that's a good strategy for Apple. You're right - iPhones already cost around £900. They are supposed to be the most premium devices. They already have a good strategy for targeting the low-end: sell the previous-year's model at a discounted price, using up inventory and allowing longer component contracts with a suitably lower per-unit cost.

The iPhone has had some momentum recently (particularly due to the GN7), but otherwise the quality of competitor's products are excellent. Apple significantly raised prices all over the world this year, not just in the UK, and people certainly noticed; it was a big part of the reviews of the new MBP.

I want to see Apple maximise the impact of this product, using it as a chance to reset the iPhone. I want to see a revolutionary and inspiring new design as standard, but I also want to see a huge leap for supporting services; the AppStore, for example, needs to do more to encourage indie developers with innovative software, including introducing new purchasing models, improving searching, browsing and general discoverability. Basic iCloud storage needs to be increased and additional packages need to give you more for less. I would support some kind of iCloud+ subscription which combines Apple Music, iCloud storage and perhaps some additional benefits (a free iTunes movie rental per month? a free iBook? Discounts on AppStore/iTunes/iBooks purchases?) for a lower total cost, in the model of Amazon Prime. That would be a great way to bring all their services together, make the iPhone even harder to switch from, and is a great stepping-stone to Apple Video, or whatever other services are on the roadmap.

The premium iPhone model should have USB-C. I wonder how long they are gonna milk the lightning connector.

USB-C is fatter than Lightning, so I don't see it happening. USB-C is also designed for very high speed (10-40 Gbit/s +) and power (100 W) that are simply not necessary for a mobile device.

Lightning is a good port. Just what about it is inadequate? I've never found Lightning to be inadequate and I have a 256 GB iDevice that's three-quarters full.

Though propriotry, Lightning is very well designed for its purpose. It's sturdy, has a very satisfying click and cables stay firmly and tightly attached so long as you want them. I've not once had a Lightning port or plug break on me. It was also one of the first reversible data ports I think. It represents the best of Apple innovation as far as I'm concerned and its designers did a really great job. I hope it stays, not least because I have heaps of lightning cables already.

I'm skeptical if USB-C feels as nice as I've not tried it but only seen videos. Hopefully it's better than USB-A and it can't be worse than the god-awful micro-USB. At least its reversible so they got that right (likely inspired by Lightning).

And the angry people will camp out days before the launch to get the phone as soon as it is available.

...and then show up here to work overtime shouting down those who have the same anger about the same things AFTER Apple decides to go that way anyway. Anger now because "we" don't know if Apple is going to go this way. But as soon as "we" know, wireless charging on a pad will be "shut up and take my money" and "how did we ever get by without..." and "who want's to charge with clunky wires," etc. And having to carry that new proprietary pad will of course not be clunky and anyone who tries to say so is a troll.

I think Lightning will stay (unfortunately). Its slightly smaller than USB-C, and well established with millions of cables and chargers out there. And Apple keeps the control they like.

But Apple has to transition to USB-C chargers for iOS devices -- this would allow iOS devices and MacBooks to at least use the same charger or power brick (although with different cables). Anyway great for travel and convenience.

Heck, doesn't the iPad and MacBook12 use the same size 29W brick in USB-C and USB-A versions? MacBook Pros would obviously charge slower but a 29W iPad charger would serve me well on travels with an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro 13.

On a positive note can we start getting wallpapers of galaxies again on the macOS as well as iOS (as pictured)? :D

but when i read 4.7, 5.0, 5.5 i obviously assume they are talking about the screen size and not the size of the phone itself or do you by a 60 inch tv with the size of a 50 inch tv? ;)

HAHAHA!, After all these years of talking nonsense about wireless charging, now they just going to use Qi. I've always said Apple was just full of it when it came to WC.

Ikea has an amazing desk lamp (we have them at work for people with samsung phones)

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60280682/

And HP even has a built in wireless charging plate on their little desk PC. The argument that there was no difference over having a wire was always complete nonsense.

Don't worry guys, Apple is just holding back and slowly trickling out "innovative" features that competitors already have been using. It will be standard when the iPhone 9/10 hits.
