Significantly longer battery life.

And I'm sure I've left something out. Sorry but Apple is nothing if not incremental. While many may argue that they are behind on innovation, and that the 8 marks the 10 year anniversary, I'm not inclined to think that this many new features and innovations will arrive in one model year. That's just not something Apple usually does. I hope they prove me wrong.

Apple will only bring out all of those changes if it doesn't want a bigger sales dip than the 6s had last year. I guess Apple doesn't want that and the silver lining for Tim would be a perfect upsell model over the 7s. Apple needs more than a meh update at this point, regardless of past quarter sales.

I'll be upgrading. I'm on the yearly plan anyway, and it's best if I find issues before family members do. And, I'll be helping drive costs down for the rest of you waiting a cycle or two :)

Have you factored in $41 or so per month per person for your expected lifespan of all you family members yet?

Its fun try it..all that for a new apl phone yearly lets look a popular choice the 7+ 128GB

EX:

35 yo male lives to 80... i phone a year plan (of course the payments go up with new models but lets keep it easy!)

$41 x 12 = $492 x 45 years of new iphone =min $22, 140 per you (add up family like Johnny 13 and Sally 7) for leasing an iphone (device only) yearly

Try it. Its called math. Apl did figure this out they knew people wouldn't

More like it's called their money. People upgrade every year. It's what I like, I upgrade every year. I sell the old one for half of what I paid for it. I find value in the price I paid vs the use of the actual iPhone.

On software side most popular software in AppStore is from Microsoft
On services side when possible, most popular is Google followed by Microsoft
On Browser side ,most popular is Chrome

Do you have any facts to back any of this up? I don't see Microsoft in the top grossing, or top free apps at the moment. Google services I mostly agree with, but know very few that use Chrome on iPhone.

I'm pretty sure that an overdue design update will persuade many to upgrade. The 7 Plus has good battery life. The 7 is okay. Is Apple realizing that an obsession with thinness isn't as important to many consumers as battery life? Let's hope so.

The obsession with thinness is a myth. Comfort in the hand, fit in the pocket, are things users value. These are also primary drivers at Apple. Thinness can contribute to this. But Apple never "had an obsession." It's not possible for companies to have obsessions, in any case.

Longer battery life is not much of a selling point for me.

I'm fine with where I am with the SE as long as it doesn't go "boom".

In real life situations I doubt you're going to see more than a 10% - 20% increase in battery life. If the iPhone 8 is anywhere near its rumored price of $999 then I don't think an extra hour or two of battery life is going to factor into the decision to pay a $230 premium over a 7S+ or $350 more than a 7S (assuming the now four-generation old designs don't drop in price).

I've got a 6+ and would probably upgrade to the 8 for the same $770 the 7+ costs even though it is going to have a .4" smaller effective screen once you exclude the rumored touch bar on the bottom that will replace the home button. Anything over $799 and I'm out.

I think Apple is going to be unpleasantly surprised if they are depending on pent-up demand from people that own a 6 or 6S to justify the 30% price hike being rumored. I think you'll see quite a few 7S+ or even 7+ sales cannibalizing the 8. It isn't going to look good if iPhone sales mirror the iPad and the older models outsell the new ones by a large margin.

Honestly, my iPhone 7+ battery is terrible. I Get up around 6:30 A.M and it is at 100%. I go through my day, and mainly only use it for music and notifications, and light Youtube, and by 4PM, its at 40%. When I get home, I use it for about 2 hours, just web browsing, and watching youtube, and in around an hour, I am getting the low battery warning.

You liked when there was an illusion that you were paying $200 for your iPhone?

It was less , sure more was padded on in cell contract but still significantly below what is today as well as Apl MSRP price points are much higher in 2017 than in 2013, apl used this to confuse people with "I phone for life" leases..one confusion for another confusion

There won't be a "plus" 8 model. Never has this been rumoured.
There will be one new flagship model in a new larger size compared to the 7 (4.7")
There will be a 7S at 4.7 inch, a 7S+ at 5.5 inch, and the top of the line iPhone 8 at around 5.0 inches

The iPhone 6 will be my last iPhone until there's an update to an iPhone SE. They can have this 4.7" OLED wunderkind but it won't tempt me. I'm done with super-expensive large phones. I want a moderately expensive small phone. Apple, please get that SE updated!

have you added up those Initial and subsequent $400 yearly costs roll forwards? Have you done this for your family yet on their devices? that only seems like half savings again its sort of smoke and mirror thinking to justify a very expensive device yearly, in you own mind

That is bad.
