Congrats! I’m a huuuge fan of the Air’s form factor. Let’s be real though. You’re clowning the need for speakers, but you’d have go to back 11 generations to find an iPhone without stereo sound. Go ahead and turn that baby in landscape mode and play a YouTube video. Then compare it to any iPhone from the past decade.

Just use AirPods/bluetooth etc etc. Nah the speakers are there for a reason. Speakerphone, sharing content, playing something on the fly. The next iteration of the air will 100% have dual speakers.

I dont need tiny stereo speakers and they sound just fine.

So I’ve just unboxed my iPhone Air and wanted to give my first impressions. Also would be interested to hear yours.

So my first impression is wow. Taking it out of the case - it felt different. It feels like a new product. I’m coming from a pro max user, I’ve just been upgrading and it hasn’t filled me with too much excitement as I get used to it and forget about it.

But this air has really got me excited - the most since my first iPhone (iPhone 4).

So the way it feels is amazing and my pro max already feels very heavy and bulky. The screen quality is fantastic (as we expected). The size seems exactly what I wanted as well, pro max had been feeling too big for me in recent years so the air is sized perfectly in between pro and pro max.

The performance so far seems very good. It has pretty much the same chip as the others so that’s expected. Things are very snappy and quick.

Now we have to talk about the compromises.

Battery life has been addressed by the reviews - it is comparable to previous years iPhone. It’s good but not great. I will miss the 1.5-2 days of battery life I get when I get a new pro max but I’m happy enough with the air’s battery life as it is.

The camera is good. From my early testing and similar to the reviews, the normal shots are pretty much identical to the other models. Some small details where depth is involved favours the other models but it’s very difficult to spot. Low light performance is great. We know about the lack of ultra wide - I will miss it for sure but I rarely used it.

Now I did notice the one speaker only when I played a video landscape. When using the phone normally, other than being a bit quieter - didn’t really notice it. I only use landscape sometimes, not very often - so I can live without it. No doubt Apple will ‘innovate’ a future iteration of the air with stereo speakers and ‘change everything’ again.

In terms of bending - no issues there. I won’t try on mine but the reviews have made it pretty clear it’s an unbelievablely strong phone.

I run my phones with no case and no screen protector. The air just feels like something else. As I said, the last time I was this excited was with iPhone 4.

So those are my early thoughts on the air. It’s the model I wanted for years and now I have it.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts, positive or negative.
Incredible in-hand. Needs to be held to be understood.

Not a fan of the shiny sides.

Speaker stinks.

Makes the 17 Pro Max feel like a dated tank.

Mooi!! 🙂

Although the pictures of the “colors” show almost no color.

Very temped by the black with the black bumper to replace my iPhone 14 Pro, aka the last lightning port device in our house. 😃

It's just initial but I had to give my 4 cents.

1. The most striking thing about the phone is the weight and I feel thats not talked about enough. It is feather light in the hand and you don't really feel much when holding it. I like the blue color I got as its subtle View attachment 2552910

2. The speakers are just fine and not an issue at all. If you need stereo speaks 4 inches from each other that are the size of a corn kernel then cool.

3. The screen looks better than my 16 pro max when side by side which is a plus but no idea why.

4. It's thin but still feels good in the hand and not slippery.

5. The shape and design makes me feel like it needs a MagSafe wallet or nice leather case

6. The camera even though it's a single lens is really good. I noticed that I only really used the one lens and the different modes so I am fine.

7. last is that it feels like an iPhone of old and not a phone trying to keep up with bigger is better and I like that. In the pocket it gets lost also. Like you have to check to see which one you put it in.
Feels amazing in-hand.

The shiny sides are not to my liking.

The speaker stinks.

Excellent review thanks for posting it. Could I ask how the portrait mode is? Does it look and act the same as a multi camera phone? I use that a lot and hope it would work roughly the same quality

Also "if you need stereo speaks 4 inches from each other that are the size of a corn kernel then cool."

Made me LOL

The iPhone air is the future of phones. It is the best looking and most premium of all the iPhones. The fact that it has pretty much the same battery life as the 16 and 17 with the pro chip is just icing on the cake. Funnily enough, if you add the extra apple battery it then almost lasts longer then twice the pro, so you effects have two phones in one
It has worse performance than A19 though because it’s overheating.

Doesn’t sound like a future to me.

It's a great looking phone. I wish it would have been the same screen size as the Pro Max, then it would be perfect.
Still, it's large enough of course and currently testing it in the wild comparing it to a pro max 14.

its very intuitive and much better than changing the phone angle cause it happens naturally. It should have happened 3 phones ago

I went with the pro max as usual only because I need the cameras. I really wish the air would work for me though! I’m excited to go to the store later today and play with it a little bit when I go for my screen protector :)
