Visiting Fnac tomorrow. They usually have all the iPhones there to hold and try. Hopefully some hands-on time with the Air.

I’m so close to canceling my pro max order and get the air instead. I’m not a big camera type of guy and always used my phones naked and prefer thinner phones. Coming from the max 6.9” screen is the downsizing in screen size a big adjustment or did you get used to it right away?

great impressions and pics. Just hoping I get a good display on mine as they're being sourced to 3 manufacturers and seem to vary in terms of quality and accuracy.
Where have you seen information about three screen suppliers? Not doubting you, just curious to know. I would guess it’s Samsung, LG and BOE? I have no idea what screen is in my Air, but I’m very happy with it.

The speaker on my Air is loud and clear. Plays music and video really nicely.

I honestly can barely tell the difference enough to notice, let alone care.

At maximum volume it’s a loud speaker. More than good enough for doomscrolling, YouTube, loudspeaker calls IMO.
I care that I dont have to carry a heavy cellphone around all day.

I went with the pro max as usual only because I need the cameras. I really wish the air would work for me though! I’m excited to go to the store later today and play with it a little bit when I go for my screen protector :)
Have you considered getting a real camera? I got myself a Nikon Z6II two years ago and I would never go back to a phone for more serious/important photography. Sure, it can be annoying lugging around a big camera at times, and I don’t take it everywhere of course, but I’ve found it such a massive jump from tiny phone camera lenses. Having the Nikon has made the move to the Air very easy.

my Air did not even get really hot during setup and restoring from backup, you would think because of the thin design it would get easily get hot. I would say it was luke warm haha.

I am really glad I choose the Air over the Pro.
I did not like the colors , thickness/weight of the 17 Pro.

Really amazed by the design of this Air. And all the negative posts/topics here about the mono speaker are so overblown in the real world
Why would a physically smaller phone get more warm? It‘s thin and flat, so heat can literally not build up as much or be conserved as it would be in a thicker phone.

I recently got a mirrorless Cannon camera and feel the exact same way. Thus moving from the 16 Pro to the Air myself.

I like the screen size on the air so much better than my pro max. Air has thin bezels which helps. The screen is quite striking - they always manage to improve it somehow.

I got used to it immediately and prefer it over the pro.

The biggest issue is the speakers though, it's noticeably worse than pro maxes.

Enjoy your new Cannon! What lens are you using? I got a 28-75mm f2.8 when I first got my Nikon and have since added a 50mm f1.8 prime. I can see this getting very expensive easily 😂 I’m still learning how to use it, but the photos even with my basic skills are so great.

Just got back from the Apple Store — no question, the iPhone Air looks WAY more premium than the new Pro range. There’s really no comparison, and that’s without even factoring in how much thinner it is.

The aluminium finish on the Pro makes it instantly feel and look less premium, almost like the base iPhone 17 but with a larger camera plateau.

The dark blue looks dark and boring in person, and the silver feels dull with a bit of a prototype vibe. I had the orange pre-ordered, which does look nice, but the two-tone finish ruins the design when you move the phone at different angles.

Think of the old iPhone 6, but with multiple thickness levels — the rounded, soft aluminium takes a lot away from the design. Now I just need to decide if I’m willing to sacrifice the better cameras (battery life and the single speaker are perfectly fine and don’t bother merits just the single camera).

Also While I was at the store for about half an hour, I even saw a customer cancel his Pro Max pre-order for the Air, the Air’s design is just so much more premium. the 16 Pro design looked much better and more premium than any of the 17 Pro colors, which come off as utilitarian by design, almost like Apple is intentionally pushing people toward the Air. At this point, the Air feels like the true premium model.

Still learning as well here. I am using a 18-150mm Cannon RF lens and am going to get a 50mm prime soon. It is an expensive hobby but we have one graduating highschool and another close behind and after pricing photographers we decided we can do it.

thanks OP, but all these Air reviews are the same. we all know and can all agree that it feels great and light in hand and looks more premium. but what i'm interested are the real life battery life, and the single speaker reviews.

Battery life so far has been as everyone else said. Good but not amazing.

Now having spent a bit more time with it, the speakers, or I should say speaker, is noticeably worse than the pro max. The pro max feels richer and wholesome whilst the air's sounds a bit tinny. It's acceptable I would say, but that's probably the main thing I've noticed so far.

So it depends on what you're willing to give up. I can sacrifice some audio quality for the device which I'm otherwise happy with.

But yeah, that's probably (for me) the most significant difference.

It's a great looking phone. I wish it would have been the same screen size as the Pro Max, then it would be perfect.
Still, it's large enough of course and currently testing it in the wild comparing it to a pro max 14.
I wanted it to be smaller 6.5 to me is the absolute sweet spot

Oh wow that’s some serious glass! Awesome. Yeah I get you there, we’ve hired photographers for both studio and onsite for our just turned one year old daughter and some of the sessions I’ve done with her are as good as the ‘professionals’. Check out the photo of the day and weekly contest threads in the photography sub-forum if you haven’t already, really great bunch of people in there and some wonderful shots.

1. The most striking thing about the phone is the weight and I feel thats not talked about enough. It is feather light in the hand and you don't really feel much when holding it.
Guess its more of a physiological trick cos of the bigger display.
the weight is the same as the normal 12-16 iphones.
Nobody said they were feather light
