I recall the Air was rumored to be called Ultra really early on, then Slim, and now Air.
Those were all just rumors, but the name “Air” makes the most sense — just like MacBook Air versus the regular MacBooks and MacBook Pro. The MacBook Air eventually replaced the regular MacBook and now outsells the MacBook Pro. That’s likely what Apple is hoping to achieve here. If it succeeds, I suspect they’ll increase the price of the Pro range.

We’re comparing a 6.5” display to 5.8”, it’s not physiological. For the size, it will feel much lighter.

5.8” vs 6.5” is like going from a regular phone to a Plus/Max-size which typically goes hand in hand with a 20% increase in weight. But in this scenario, the weight stayed the same.
it just feels way lighter and with something this small carried with fingers, every gram counts.

Another battery life test to confirm good but not great battery life.

As others have said, the mistake from Apple was probably to show the specific magsafe charger for the air pretty much straight away with the air. That really didn’t help and contributed to the battery life discussion.

Have you considered getting a real camera? I got myself a Nikon Z6II two years ago and I would never go back to a phone for more serious/important photography. Sure, it can be annoying lugging around a big camera at times, and I don’t take it everywhere of course, but I’ve found it such a massive jump from tiny phone camera lenses. Having the Nikon has made the move to the Air very easy.

I actually bought a mirrorless camera and a few lenses back in 2023 for use on an upcoming trip. Alas, the camera stayed in the hotel room majority of the time while I ended up just using the 15 Pro. And seriously, just a couple of lenses can easily cost more than the iPhone Pro Max.

We have another trip coming up and I'm getting a 17 Pro for the nicer cameras but I'll probably use either Air or 17 to replace the SE3 as my daily driver.

Yeah I thought that was odd in the keynote. No need to mention the battery pack there, just release it alongside the phone. Its inclusion in the keynote just fuelled expectations in the wrong way. I’ve been using my Air pretty much non stop browsing and scrolling for 8-9 hours since charging it to 90% and it’s at 33%. That’s a massive improvement over my 14PM and I’m quite satisfied with it.

This phone is so function follows form. It is beautiful but I'm sticking with the Pro max for the bigger/brighter screen, cameras, battery, speakers, faster performance. I do agree the pro max is fugly but I want all the power. I think for a light user that does not care about power or multimedia etc. this will be a great phone for them.

The Pro Max does not have a brighter screen. It is better on every other front that you mentioned.

They are 6.1“
The X was 5.8

What is it if its not physiological?

Was going to say - don’t remember seeing anything about brighter. Unless he meant the vapour chamber allows for more cooling in hot days so higher brightness could be maintained.

you will love the Air! 100%

I just check the orange 17 Pro from a friend. I got a lot of FisherPrice vibes from it...haha
He is gonna exchange it for the blue one.
I do not like all of the 3 colors of the Pro series this year.
Yeah. My Pro coming is in Silver and I feel like it’s just going to look horrible by comparison haha. I saw the Pro’s a bit from a distance in the store and just don’t like the look. But it’s going to be a very great device for a lot of people. I just want my phone to feel fun and unique again.

I just am not seeing any gold on it. Pictures above are next to the blue Fold 7 and then on top of my space gray Macbook Air. It's incredibly white for light gold. I even double checked the box after opening it to be sure they didn't hand me the wrong one. 😅
