Hello All,
I though the guide to fix this is GREAT!!! I fixed My iPod touch with it thinking it was brokeded :/ ... Anyways...Once I found out it was this was the problem i was having I fixed it using your guide! Also, some report it fixed in 2.1 but it is NOT!!! I will post a log from xcode once it rehappens (****ing Xcode reloading the god damn console file) Can someone find out where the HardWare Checks are? Because if you can find them, I can make an cydia package to fix it...
Hope This Helps,
Clayton

I'm glad you found the instructions useful!

That said, I'm surprised to hear that you've experienced an ALoD in 2.1 - I actually had one too, but it was after an Installer crash. Running non-jailbroken firmware, I've not experienced any problems (and I've TRIED to make it crash - 90+ apps installed, deleting, adding/upgrading both in iTunes and directly on the phone - rock solid stable) ...

Got teh Reply,

Just so you know...I am an "Aspiring" Xcode Dev and Decided it upon myself to fakesign the app i am making an sftp it onto the iPod. This as well as my 600-700mb of Apps installed Might Have Caused the wierd ALoD...
Hope this helps,
Clayton

openssh not needed / workaround for non jailbroken iphones

thx a lot for the info !
I was experiencing the issue with 2.1 fw.

I found another way, that I think is worth mentioning, because it has a lot of advantages and WORKS in many scenarii where your method doesn't.
basically, it's just another way to move the files around.

for all the people out there who encounter the issue, if you:
- can't manage to connect to your phone via ssh (for PLENTY reasons)
- or you have the problem with a non jailbroken iphone
- want a easier/faster way

you can follow mavis's guide, but move/copy/delete the watchdog folder with i-FunBox.
it's a neat freeware, that doesn't require any install or setup, that allow you to do that (among many other features): you get full access to the files on your iphone (jailbroken or not).

hope this helps some like me.

A little Help

I have jailbroken iphone 3g. I have been installing applications I don't even know how many. Phone is running fine except some crashes here and there but not big deal. But last night, I am updating couple of programs and my phone got reboot by itself and stuck on this infamous ALoD.
I tried to search on this forum and came up with the first thread about restoring so I did. But then whenever I tried to restore, I always have problem. I cannot restore back to 2.1. I can only restore to the original firmware that came with the phone(2.0.2) which means I lost all my settings and applications. I didn't read about the SSH until after I did the restore. So now every single time I do restore, the phone will just stuck at apple logo but the itune will start syncing and all which also stuck at syncing. Then the phone got reboot by itself. Then start the whole thing all over again. Is there any other way to retrieve or should I just start from the scratch? Please help me with this guys. Thanks.

reboot problem - Mandrake explanation

I have just removed mobilewatchdog.bundle from my iphone. That does not help. It keep rebooting with the Apple on the screen.

I have to say that instead of SSH I used i-Funbox program that gets connected to iPhone through USB.

Is there any difference between SSH and i-Funbox versions of removal of mobilewatchdog.bundle ?

Can I still change something on my iPhone through i-Funbox to have it finally rebooted?

As many of you know, I've been suffering with ALoD (Apple Logo of Death) issues since July 11th. I've finally discovered the root cause of this problem, as well as a solution. I'm pasting a quote below from "Mandrake" on another forum which explains in some detail why this problem occurs, how it actually can affect ANYONE running 2.0 software, and how jailbreaking is the only known way to recover.

After suffering through 40 restores (due to ALoDs) between July 11th and August 15-ish, I haven't had to do a single one since - the reason? I finally got up the nerve to PWN my new iPhone 3G. With OpenSSH installed, recovering from an ALoD event takes just a few minutes, with no data loss or settings lost, nothing - it's VERY easy.

Ironic, isn't it? The only way to avoid having to spend 3-4 hours restoring your phone every time an ALoD occurs is to jailbreak. Put another way: in this situation, the only way to have a functional phone is to void the warranty.

Good job, Apple.

this problem only occurs on phones that are jailbroken

my phone didnt get this problem until i jailbroken
during the initial reboot after jailbreaking this occured
i got this

so if you jailbreak, clear all the apps off your phone first, then jailbreak, then resync

im not saying theres not a problem with your phone, cuz there is, but its not this problem

(the reason this fix works for you know is because, well now it is the problem you have cuz your phone is jailbroken)

Actually, I haven't had the problem since 2.1, jailbroken or not. They fixed it, at least for me. ;)

That and I got ALoD all the time even not jailbroken. I would get it when installing apps and updates for apps. It definitely wasn't a jailbreak problem.

But yeah, ALoD is fixed on >2.1

Also, whats with this crap:

I have posted from my iPhone and never seen that. I know you don't paste it in there if you ARE in fact posting from an iPhone, due to the lack of copy/paste. How and why do you make that show up?

That's a bit of custom text - "My Device", IIRC.

Thanks

I want to thank mister MAVIS for his very good solution!!

The problem was still not fixed on Firmware 2.2 for iPhone 3G 16gigs!

I had problems with my apps, they crashed all the times! I thougt the stack and the categories app make this problem, but also if they makes this problem for a little precentage, with your solution, the apps does not crash anymore. Also the boot times and so on, has becomeing better, with my iPhone and the 200 apps i have, am really happy now, thanks!
