For all we know the feature complete version at WWDC will really be complete. Just, Apple won't start selling it to the public until October to keep it from removing too much hype from the iPhone. So in reality, Leopard may have been "on track." And, if I remember correctly, that was an Apple spokesperson who stated to some analyst that it was on track, not an Apple PR release. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

Sorry but feature complete means all the features are present, it does not mean t will not panic every 5 minutes.

You are assuming it be perfect and ready for broad use and that they are just holding it up.

I would not make assumptions until we see what they deliver at the conference.

It will not be the first time they lie about a delay of a product. Then later change their tune.

I recall in recent history Leopard & Apple TV.

I wonder if it was a false memo or if it was a screw up to send it to everyone (instead of a select few) and the second email was a cover up. It would be easy to know by examining the email, the servers it when thru and the logs of the mail servers. The ip of the sender and Mac address can also be found to identify the individual if he was stupid enough to send it from their network.

I could be wrong, but this smells like it was real and they are doing a cover up.
nah, the iPhone isn't only Apple's business but also AT&T's, when AT&T already prepared everything for the launch in June, I would imagine that AT&T will have some sort of clause that protect them to have Apple pay through the moon if they change the release day this late

could it be Apple tried to flush out the internal mole that have been hired by those hedge funds and shorts:cool:

I've been reading Engadget for years and whilst I find their information on technology and such good reading I never put much credence into their Apple related stories.

Frankly Engadget are about PC's and as a pc orientated site I find they will jump at the chance to sling some mud towards Apple. Their most recent story headed "Microsoft: Vista sells nearly 40 million licenses in first 100 days" is biased as best. But hey that's their business.

But I bet when they placed this stupid story about an Apple delay they were jumping around just like M$ would have.

This may be fake but it's also eerily reminiscent of a few months ago when there were rumors of Leopard being delayed.Apple denied it right up to the last minute then announced the delay..

This could be true.

Agree 100%, lately Apple does not seem to be able to align enough resources to get the job done, and later there is a problem and every one is not only tap-out but also dead tired from all the overtime.

From other stories about Apple it seem that long hours and last minute crunch is the norm way of life at Apple.

Maybe the development of the iPhone is stretching resources thin. That's too bad, when Apple Computer was doing so well. Time for some divisions Apple.

You have Microsoft's Steve Baumer trashing the iPhone from Australia, because he doesn't have the guts to do it in this country, where someone in our once great media might actually challenge him.

Ummm, this sounds like you think that reporters in Australia don't have the guts to challenge him.

Don't think you meant it that way.

Apple PR let them know that the iPhone and Leopard are still on track.

True, but in March Apple PR also said that Leopard was still on track for a spring 2007 release. In April they announced the slip back to October. Still, I hope this one's false. I'd hate to see Leopard slip again.

Canary Trap?

Seeing the details of the story, that it was based on an actual redacted internal Apple email, I'm betting this was a classic Canary Trap pulled off by Apple to identify leaks.

With email, it should be fairly easy to send out slightly different versions of the fake report to the various individuals suspected of leaking product information, while making it look like it was just a mass mailing-list message. Different versions could have set the delay date differently, before or after Leopard, etc. Wait and see which version shows up on the internet and you know who to give the pink slip to at the end of the day.

Is that worth the stock drop, if temporary? That apple PR email certainly seemed put together in a hurry.

Where is the new software??

Does anyoneone know where ILife 2007 is (espcially the new IWork and .Mac)???? Apple has been really slow releasing any new software updates.

A lot of people expect them to be bundled with Leopard, and possibly only work (fully?) with Leopard's features such as Core Animation :)

We'll find out in 25 days...

It's a shame to have to say it but Engadget have been very subtly spreading mac-poison for some time now.

Why would I want to read junk news written by people who don't hold at the very least a basic sympathetic emotional position about the company I love.

I'd almost stake money that in the last 12 months some of their guys have joined the network of pro-M$ propoganda. The 'change' seemed to come with the launch of Zune...

I used to visit Engadet all the time but if they're twisting on Apple news you can't be sure of any damn thing they print. Even seemingly upbeat Apple news often has a sliver of doom twisted into the core text.

It's become worse than tabloid mentality.

Vote with your mouse - stay the heck away!.

Maybe this Engadget is a division of the company behind supermarket check out rags... Hell why don't I just say it "I heard from a reliable source is IS owned by a super market check out tabloid". Ok guys start telling everybody. In fact he told me Murdoch Newspapers owns it and Bill Gates writes it in bed every morning and Fox News does the PR. I'll check my sources later. ;)

SJ does.

As do the relevant people in Apple.

Apple haven't released any details. It may arrive around the WWDC, or maybe along side / near Leopard.

Who knows... Some rumours suggest iWork will be free with OS10.5 - I hope so, IMO, iWork isn't worth the asking price.

.Mac: Better be soon-ish - .Mac has been looking tired and stagnant for years, not to mention very expensive for the offerings.

I just hope the old saying "there's no smoke without fire" doesn't ring true on this one.

I really hope this rumor is Boll**ks

I don't think I can survive until Jan 08 .... I may just go back to Windows

Perhaps NOT !!!:) :)

Let me put it this way: Whoever caused the whole thing to happen is losing his or her job at Apple. If some bright spark used this to flush out any moles, then that bright spark has just destroyed his or her career at Apple, will have the SEC coming down on them like a ton of bricks, and will have a hard time finding a job anywhere else.

Except that the e-mail didn't have to come from within Apple. And if it did, and the far-fetched conspiracy theories about flushing out a mole are true, the plan could've easily come from a group of people, not just one.

More than likely it was a prank from the outside, with some faked header info that a few employees didn't bother to look at closely, and one person forwarded it to engadget. Prank successful.

And your knowledge of what the SEC does, how, and for what reasons, is next to zero.

If it was just a spoofed email, it could have been spoofed at any point. E.g. perhaps Apple suspected an individual of leaking info, sent this email to Engadget spoofed so that it looked like it came from him. Engadget then reported they'd received the news from a previously reliable source and Apple would know they had their man(/woman).

So perhaps there was never any such bulk email sent out.

..or maybe I've read too many conspiracy theories...
