Correct me if I'm wrong but CDMA-based phones cannot handle voice and data simultaneously, right? As far as I know, that is one of iPhone's main selling points as they advertise the hell out of it. If it's not possible, how can it go to Sprint or Verizon? It'd be lacking one of its main features.

If iPhone comes to Sprint I will take my 3G out into the parking lot, smash it on the ground and go buy something else. I don't want to be in any way associated with Sprint. They suck...suck....suck!

Steve

You should do that anyway so I can laugh at you.

Gawwww! Sprint has the worse customer service (from personal experience) and the worse coverage. They would ADD 2 years to your service contract every time you would change anything on your account w/o your knowledge; then you would get your monthly bill and it's too late to dispute the EXTENSION of your silly contract. Hopefully, something has changed, but I doubt it....:(

That's exactly why I left there sorry asses :mad::mad:. They tried to renew me after my treo 650 conked out and I had insurance for it. I had to yell on the phone to 5 different reps and 2 managers totaling about 4 1/2 hours overall to get my service canceled and without renewal. Before then I went about two months without internet service on my phone due to them canceling me for no freaking reason whatsoever  yet still charging me .

I also had some of the most dreadful phone service with me not being able to call from my home and dropped calls like raindrops. It was a horrible experience if there ever is one. I don't care what anyone says about att. I have my very small hiccups with AT&T (spotty 3G in the boonies but nothing major, prices should be a bit lower) but nothing to whine about and certainly not sprint caliber service.

lol sorry dude I highly doubt a sprint customer service rep would know this information without you seeing a million leaks and speculative articles like the ones for Verizon. Furthermore I'm sure Apple doesnt want another mess like they had to endure with AT&T and all the network issues. Sprint may have a really good, fast data network but it will probably get flooded with the release of an iphone. If they do decide to go CDMA I'm sure it will be Verizon.

Apple is run by Steve Jobs who doesn't forget the Verizon CEO wanted him dead. Verizon has annoyed him more than once and IMHO there is no way he will allow an iPhone on the Verizon Network until certain management changes are made.

Steve's long memory may play a role, but no competent CEO of a company like Apple is going to make a multi-million dollar decision for his company based entirely on hurt feelings.

Far more likely that Verizon and Apple can't come to terms on a sales and revenue model. That was the reason they went with AT&T and not Verizon in the first place. According to legend, Verizon was Apple's first choice.

Is sprint the company who's customer service is ran by people who cannot speak proper English? Not saying there is anything wrong with that but I believe I have been on sprints costomer service line and I was so irritated that a rep couldn't speak English for anything. Glad I'm not with them anymore and if the iPhone ever got to sprint it would be a dissapointment to me.

Here's the funny thing about large companies that deal with tens of millions of customers: for every person who has a terrible experience and hates the company there's someone else who has a wonderful experience and loves the company. I've seen innumerable people leave totally in love with AT&T because they get some help they totally weren't expecting, and innumerable others leave because their account was screwed up by AT&T as bad as or worse than yours was by Sprint.

And the funny thing too about internet customer service horror stories.... they almost never tell the full story. Not to make any accusations here, it's the simple truth.

They all do it. At AT&T the general customer service reps you speak to are usually in the US or Canada, but most of the specialized departments are in India.

add that when they plan projects, large companies tend to work with more than one potential partner for the same provisions at the same time. its only prudent business sense to insure that you have fallback scenarios in place, as well as multiple alternative sources for competitive bidding should it come down to that.

therefore i wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn that Apple was actively negotiating with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint simultaneously, and the rank and file of each company only hears that they are actively meeting with Apple, thus various people at each company thinks that their company is definitely Apple's next exclusive iPhone partner, when Apple has not yet made any such commitment.

isn't common for young girls to make dates for Sat evening with more than one guy, just in case one cancels, to be sure that they don't have to stay at home on Sat night? Apple is dating, and Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are it's suitors. two of them are probably going to be disappointed, but until Sat they're all still in the running..

So Apple is a young girl I guess this goes back to the is the Iphone girlie thread! Yep Iphone coming to a Sprint near you!

Heres an Idea...

Well as of today Sprints stock is about $3.64, now toss this in for an IDEA, Apple could just buy sprint.... and then it would all be over!

Sprint Customer Service Rep

As the sister of a CSR of Sprint, I know that they are briefed on what phones are coming out and when they will be released on their network. Also while speack with a corporate head of a sprint store which is CORPORATE level so they should know, I was informed that sprint WILL be getting the iPhone in June, That is when the exclusive contract ends. Verizon is getting a new blackberry storm which will be the Storm3, and sprint will be getting 3 new blackerry's the pearl flip, the blackberry tour 2, and new verticle slider blackberry phone which is blackberry 9700a.

HIGHLY skeptical of this information. Apple has an almost pathological fetish for secrecy. For this kind of information to get into the hands of people as far down the totem pole as CSR's and regional reps would be an astonishing and highly unlikely occurrence.

It puts me in mind of the thread about 3 months ago where CSR's from Verizon were reporting that a Verizon iPhone would be announced with the iPad, along with a Verizon data plan for that device.

The Sprint CSRs won't know if the iPhone is coming out until everyone else does. The potential for a leak is way too easy. The fewer the people who know Apple's plans, the better, and there is absolutely no reason for CSRs to know 3 months in advance if the iPhone is coming out on their network.

If this were true, which it isn't, your sister, her boss and her bosses' boss should start looking for a new job because Apple and Sprint executives will have them fired.

CDMA technology can allow simultaneous voice and data. Verizon's network does not allow this simply because Verizon has not chosen to upgrade their network to the latest revision of the technology they use.

I'm not sure whether Sprint's network allows simultaneous voice and data or not. Somebody with a Sprint smart phone would have to confirm it for us. I do seem to recall hearing reports of Palm Pre owners being able to do simultaneous voice and data.

No, neither networks can do voice and data at the same time.
The phone has nothing to do with it, its a network limitation and not a simple thing to update.

Sprint WILL be getting iPhone - insider knowledge :)

I have a family member who has worked for Sprint for many years on the technical end... I have been told Sprint WILL be getting the iPhone. :D
I am 35 yrs old and cannot wait to get mine! I have the instinct now, which is fine, but everyone I know seems to have the iPhone.
I have been loyal to Sprint for many years, and was considering switching to At&t in November when my latest contract is up... not any more!!
I'll let everyone know if I hear more specifics.

And that means absolutelly nothing.

To the OP,

Unless what you posted was different than what you actually said to her, then there is no reason to think that she was talking about an iPhone on Sprint. Couple things: she told you that your contract runs out in June. You asked whether that's when the next iPhone will come out. She said probably.

You basically came off as a customer who was interested in the iPhone and asked about it especially when told that your contract runs out around the same time so that you don't have to pay an ETF. I'm pretty sure that she was used to dealing with people leaving Sprint for AT&T.

I am pretty sure sprint does not have any customers who are not relatives of employees.

Thats not what I meant.
Offcourse people might have relatives that work for Sprint.
Do you believe what anyone throws out there?
Verizon reps have been saying the same for over 3 years now and almost every wireless company when asked about if they're getting an iphone. Oh yeah, sure we are. Just hang in there for a little longer :D

I think he was joking about either their small subscriber base or the fact that all these rumors seem to come from family members of Sprint employees ;)
