Wow...

Lol :D
A family member who has worked for sprint.....
And that means absolutelly nothing.

Wow, how completely rude you are.

I found this forum while browsing the internet and actually thought I may be able to give somebody 'helpful' information, or at least confirm if anyone had questions as to the authenticity of the 'rumor'. It must suck to be so completely jaded as you seem to be.
Not that it really matters, (as I am sure you will pick apart this response anyway...) but, my 'family member' is my brother who has been an engineer with Sprint for quite a few years. I would think that someone in his area of the 'corporate' world would have a good idea about what is, and is not happening in regards to equipment.
Let me guess, you don't feel anyone has 'legitimate information' unless you have the source's blood type, SS#, mothers maiden name, physical address... what?
Well, I don't want anyone to get in trouble in case this is 'sensitive' information. And just an FYI, he did not know all the details, just that it was a 'go' with the iPhone.
I am sure there is a lot of rumors and misinformation floating around... I'm sorry I tried to 'help'.
I'm also sorry I had to run into an obvious blog snob who has no interest in communicating with others in a civilized manner, it seems you must get joy out of acting like a complete horses rear end to a complete stranger.

How proud this website must be to have you as a contributor.

I think he was joking about either their small subscriber base or the fact that all these rumors seem to come from family members of Sprint employees ;)

Yeah close enough.

I would throw in the fact that outside of their new smartphone subs all the previous subs all signed up for the dirt cheap SERO plans.

Geez..take it easy. You must be new to the internet. I thought his response was pretty restrained. He didn't call you any names - all he did was discount your information. And with good reason IMHO.

The point he was making is valid. When the rumor mills start, places like this are filled with "inside" information from peoples' "wife's uncle's mother's sister's friend, who happens to be the janitor that vacuums the CEO's office. Invariably, this leaked information is total BS. Apple Inc. is absolutely RABID about secrecy. One of their key tools is keeping such information totally under wraps and extracting a virtual blood oath from their parter companies to do the same. The reason is precisely what we see here - the "insider" passes the info to some family members, and next thing you know it's posted on MacRumors. Just like you did.

Anybody high enough in the Ssprint corporation to be "in the know" about an iPhone is highly likely to have enough integrity and honor to stick to the NDA they signed and not blab it to family and friends.

If your brother is telling the truth, then Sprint should fire him ASAP for disclosing confidential information.

Correct me if I'm wrong but CDMA-based phones cannot handle voice and data simultaneously, right? As far as I know, that is one of iPhone's main selling points as they advertise the hell out of it. If it's not possible, how can it go to Sprint or Verizon? It'd be lacking one of its main features.

I agree but even though I like AT&T and my iPhone one other big seller for Apple is the tethering feature however AT&T can not provide this feature.

It is not a perfect world but you would be surprised how many ppl will not even care about that feature when Sprint and Verizon eventually get the iphone?

AT&T can provide that feature, they just choose not to. iPhone's alone put enough stress on the network, imagine if everyone was tethering with their iPhone as well?

I think that if the iPhone went to Sprint or Verizon, AT&T would allow tethering.

If you see how many newbies like you sign up every day and put up posts like yours you'd understand.
They mean absolutelly zero.
My cousins wifes sisters best friends barber also has the same inside info :D

While I know this is all speculation, I'm right there with you on wanting it on Sprint! I have a legacy plan that I think would work and I'm due for a new contract around that time. Now I just need firm answers...

I would not be surprised if iPhone goes with sprint, it's more likely than verizon IMO.
Sprint has changed recently, for the better.
A lot has changed while AT&T and iPhone have been in the spotlight. Competition is heating up and I'm happy to see it. AT&T can't milk the iPhone forever and they are gonna start hurting apple soon if things don't change.
The exclusive deal has to end sometime, and this year is a better time than any.

My 50 cents

I'm pulling this out of my own behind but here's my thoughts on it.
If I had a product to sell I would make it available to as many customers as possible. There aren't that many types of cellular communication out there but there are hundreds of providers well beyond AT&T, and Sprint. Making my product available to one only to get in the market makes sense but once that agreement ends I would make arrangements with everyone I could even Dobson Cellular. So in July it would make good sense to get my product to everyone.

But again it might make better business sense to eliminate more than 80% of my potential customers.

And the CS rep was probably pulling her info out of her behind also.

Just my 50 cents

And I would quickly switch back to Sprint, AT&T has really been a disappointment to me.

Two different Sprint stores in the mall said iPhone was coming this year. How can they both say such a thing if it is just BS.

Might be moot for me anyway, I am probably going with the HTC EVO.

Built in wireless hub for up to eight devices, at 4g speed!!! I can ditch my home voip phone, home internet.

Total plan will save me $100 on iPhone/ATT, not to mention the savings on ditching my home internet and voip phone, switching is almost a certainty for me in July.

Its easy to buy my affections.

Ebay, here comes my ratty old iPhones.

iPhone on Sprint in October

Ok, me and a friend went into a Sprint store this past weekend to purchase a new phone and talking to the Sprint reps about their products and upcoming phones. When we mentioned the iPhone, the reps, without hesitation, stated that Sprint will be getting the iPhone in October.

We still purchased one of their phones, so I don't think it was an attempt to keep us from leaving to get an iPhone.

With WWDC to hit on June 7th, I'm assuming that if Verizon and Sprint were to be getting the iPhone, they would know about it by now and maybe just slipped in telling.

No way those guys would know. I had a Verizon rep tell me in December that they were getting the iPhone this past April. These guys are full of ****. They know as much about Apple's plans as we do. Don't be that gullible.

My aunt is with T-Mobile and she called in to customer support last week. They told her they are getting the iPhone this September. These other carriers will say ANYTHING to keep their customers! Hahaha!

It would be nice if it were to happen. I been with Spring for years but lusted after the iphone. The only reason AT&T's wireless service is staying afloat is because of the iphone. I have met a lot of people saying that they don't like their service but love their phone lol. I have the HTC Hero which I am not sure is the closest to the iphone. I like my phone but I still want the iphone and would drop it in a heartbeat if Sprint begins to carry the iphone. So I am praying but I won't hold my breath. :p

is it coming??

So is the iphone coming to Sprint?? I'm about to upgrading my phone for the first time in YEARS and dont want to leave Sprint. I'd like an iPhone, but I've heard too many horror stories about AT&T... So I was thinking about getting a Blackberry. But I'd hate to upgrade to Blackberry if the iphone comes out for Sprint soon...

Bottom Line it's your guess, my guess, reps guess or anybody's guess nobody except Steve Jobs knows 100% but I would say if it ever does happen.

T-Mobile gets it 1st (they are the only other decent size US GSM network)
Verizon is next (Because of there size) if Apple ever makes a CDMA version iPhone
Sprint (would only get it after Verizon since both company's are CDMA) I would also guess if Apple ever did a CDMA version of the iPhone Verizon would be the exclusive CDMA carrier for a while.

Honestly I would hold my breath I think it will be a while.

We already have the Evo, no need for the iPhone at all. I doubt you will ever see a CDMA iPhone,

The WWDC has come and gone plans are being made to ge the iphone again only from ATT where are all the sprint relatives saying that the iphone is coming in June? All that "insider" info and the sprint engineers saying when it is cming huh where did they all go?

I'm sorry thread starter, but that was really weak. You asked a phone rep if the iPhone was launching around then. She said yes. You didn't even mention the word Sprint in your question.

Of course the iPhone launches around then, she was telling you in case you were thinking of switching to AT&T to get the iPhone when your Sprint contract is over.

It's funny because I can imagine you hearing her response, hanging up the phone, and getting all excited that you just received a possible "confirmation" that the iPhone is coming to Sprint, and came running to macrumors to tell everyone about it. I just find that hilarious for some reason.

While I agree with your order of the carriers, I don't quite agree with the reasons. Here's my two cents:

T-Mobile - GSM (both the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 have the right radio frequencies, so it is possible that we could see a T-Mobile iPhone by the end of the year (according to some reports)

Verizon - when Verizon gets the iPhone, I do not think it will be CDMA - instead, I think it will most likely be 4G LTE to go along with AT&T's 4G LTE network - for this to work, don't expect a Verizon iPhone until next year's WWDC11, when most of the LTE will be readily available

Sprint - I have no idea when Sprint might get the iPhone - if they did, Apple would have to make a completely separate CDMA/ Wi-Max version, which isn't likely to happen very soon

Side-notes: Next year's iPhone will most likely have an LTE radio/ 3G GSM (for AT&T's 3G (and 4G LTE) network/ T-Mobile's 3G network and Verizon's 4G LTE - people who don't have Verizon's 4G LTE coverage by the time the next iPhone arrives, sorry, but you'll have to wait until LTE rolls out in your area...

Sprint, I guess you're one lone puppy.
