Cincinnati, OH

I'm getting 128K, Apple should have put 3G in this phone, no excuse not to. Jobs lame excuse about coverage is hog wash, 3G is backward compat.

Houston Speed

246 kb. Not bad considering.

I'm next to the cell tower. Not sure if that matters or not.

With each post, and testing our 3g phone at 596 kbps..... It looks like we'll wait for the 3g version. :( These speeds would drive me nuts.

EDIT: Going to a 2nd store to trial iPhone - I found it's really actually OK afterall. Not bad at all!

I get about 200kbps in the evenings in residential areas .... about 80-120kbps in downtown bellevue, wa during the day (city next to seattle).

A friend of mine is complaining still about really bad EDGE performance on his AT&T smart phone. We can do a side-by-side and visually notice it. His has trouble even making a connection to his traffic data service, mine streams youtube. hmmm! the iphone is using "wap.cingular" for its internet access, but makes you wonder if its QoS'ed differently.

I know that the voicemail is QoS'ed under a completely different APN.

Oh yeah, and EDGE is down currently in Seattle. They have having wide spread problems this morning/afternoon/evening depending on your time zone :)

EDGE 235 in downtown Huntington, WV

wow thats nice...I was getting really good speeds when I was back in Charleston, I didnt test the actual speeds, but it was flying compared to what I'm gettin here in Morgantown. Hopefully the recent purchase of Cell-One and Dobson by ATT will allow for future improvements.

70 la mirada CA. Seems like So Cal is getting the shaft. Really slow at home in Huntington Beach also. Lame.

Buffalo, NY

I got up to 245kbps on EDGE outside of Buffalo using the iphonenetworktest.com site. However, when I use another general bandwidth test site that uses bigger files, I get slower speeds (around 120 on average). Do we know if the iphonenetworktest.com test is 100% accurate?

Yea, varying speed on my end also,

cnet bandwidth test / 178

iphone test / 217

other test / 180

so I would say that maybe the iphone test is between 20 to 30 off.

I'm getting 185 here in Surprise Az, not to shabby but i'm tired of making sandwiches between websites, I ache for 3g, but i'll live with the iPhone because it's just a great device overall, even with it's shortcomings, its betters outdo them.

All i know is that my EDGE shows no signs of being slower than my EV-D0 windows mobile phone. Probably the phone was causing it to be slow.
