Not very accurate on Wi-Fi

It said mine was 2245 (as I laugh hysterically). I've got 5.5+ Mbps internet. The problem with these little tests are they don't give the Wi-Fi a chance to really go crazy. It should take at least 5-10 seconds on Wi-Fi before it can really figure out your speed - speakeasy.com

With all that being said I'd imagine it's pretty accurate for EDGE since it's a slow network.

and unfourtantely i get no service with the iPhone where I live. i hope this changes. i have a Verizon cell that works everywhere so its kinda a let down with AT&T. I know a guy at verizon store told me they will NEVER EVER provide service for the iPhone. some strong words there.

I pray AT&T step it up. It would be a shame if the service stays this way. I'm not even sure if i'm gonna keep the iPhone because what's the point, but i do want to keep it!

What's the point? Well, you've still got a touch screen, wide screen iPod with all the other stuff. You'll just be hawking around looking for wi-fi... :-D

Edge throughput looks ok, but what about LATENCY?

Is anyone getting Latency figures when they are doing their speed tests from these different test sites? I've heard EDGE latency can be real bad aka between 800-1500ms.

What kind of #'s are you guys getting?

I KNOW! but i'm seriously thinking i have to return it and cancel AT&T. I currently also use a Treo 700wx and its been working 99% and that's really good. I don't know, iPhone very awesome but if it don't work where I live and drops calls left and right,

I thought you meant the EDGE didn't work where you lived - not the voice plan. Yeah, that's pretty rough... :-/

McDonalds has AT&T wifi, which is free if you're an AT&T DSL subscriber.

Apparently it is above the recorded EDGE average of 204.3846 kbps.

2) WiFi: 1306.4 kbps on Time Warner Road Runner Cable.

Above the average WiFi speed of 1168.4487 kpbs

I'm still on "edge" about using EDGE (lol ok, bad joke). Honestly, when I go back to NYC there is WiFi every where, and while I am at home I am on my WiFi network. As I understand it, you don't need a data plan with ATT Wireless to use WiFi right? As I'm not using EDGE very much at all (and as it is typically slow in most places), wouldn't it make sense just to cancel the data portion of the plan and stick with using WiFi when/where it is available, saving $20/month?

Any thoughts?
