Disappointing?

Its pretty frustrating that this update basically exists to provide a new revenue stream for Apple (the WiFi store) yet does not address even a single one of the items published on web sites all over the place as far as features that people want. I realize there were tons of different desired features, but there were some common themes and things that a large percentage of the user base wanted and this update seems to have none of them. I never modded my phone or anything so the update went fine and the bug fixes/increased speed is appreciated, but having the major focus of the first big update be the WiFi store? I don't recall seeing everyone say "wow I love my iPhone but I just wish there was a way I could buy songs off iTunes from any WiFi hotspot," where as that sentence could have completed with about 30 different things, none of which are addressed in this update. I'm definitely not disappointed in my iPhone as a whole, in fact I really really like it, but the fact that the basics were neglected in this update yet something useless as the WiFi store was not is really bad IMHO.

Ipod touch firmware update

How come there is no thread for the ipod touch getting the 1.1.1 firmware update also (obviously not exactly the same update). This could be huge news if it addresses the negative black screen issues.

I think we are going to need to purchase the new component cables that have that special chip in them. They hook up to the dock connector.

I don't think they're available quite yet, although I haven't checked. Last time I checked at Apple Store online, the release date would have been them out next week. They're US$49, I think the same price, for the component kit and the composite kit. But they do come with an attached cable for charging via a computer or via an included AC adapter. They're not cheap, but hardly outlandish for a good set of third-party component, or even high-quality special purpose (like a games system cable) output cable set, especially when you toss in the spare AC adapter.

The quandary is composite or component. I'd want component for home, but we have an Apple TV, Blu-ray HDMI player, etc., for home. Away, like rental places, relative or friends houses, etc., you can't count on component inputs on SDTVs at all. Composite kind of cover all bases if you don't want to buy both, and if I'd great success with image and audio quality with my video iPod and Apple's headphone jack composite cables.

WiFi iTunes Store Ringtones?

So....I love the new iTunes WiFi store.....BUT, how can I tell if a song I am about to by can be made into a ringtone? Obviously, I know I can't create the ringtone on my phone since it needs iTunes....BUT, it would be cool if they at least told us it could be made into a ringtone so that when I got home or on my laptop I could then purchase the ringtone too!

That of course makes me think.....How cool would it be to have a ringtone maker app that lets us basically do it all on our phone!

Um... I'm not sure exactly what you're saying.

I said "Macromedia = R.I.P."

You said, "Maybe you have been out of the loop, but Adobe now owns Flash, not Macromedia. Macromedia has been "Resting in Peace" for quite some time now."

Isn't that basically restating what I said, and then saying I was wrong?

?

The two could be interpreted slightly differently. Your Macromedia = R.I.P. could be interpreted as Macromedia is completely gone and kaput.

Macromedia being bought out means Macromedia is still alive, but has been absorbed into the larger entity that is Adobe.

Either way you look at it, Macromedia = R.I.P.

:D

The negative black screen issues are a hardware problem - a simple software/firmware update won't fix it.

Sorry, I misread the quote.

My bad, my bad.

A million apologies. I read your quote and mrrydogg's as one.

As a measure of atonement, I'm offering $100 credit to any Macromedia product - online or at the Macromedia store.

Flash??

When is apple finally going to give the customers what they want? While the iTunes feature is nice, we need flash support!

I had used the modmyiphone steps to unlock my iphone. I did a full restore to 1.0.2 on Monday thinking my phone was set back. I am an AT&T customer using the SIM that came with my iPhone.

I got this after the update:

On the phone it says: Incorrect SIM. insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone.

Itunes says: "only compatible AT&T SIM cards maybe used to active iphone. Please insert the SIM that came with your iphone or vist an AT&T store to reeve a repleacement sim card."

This is the original SIM card.

Kinda bummed that all of my Installer.app stuff has been wiped.

Then again, looking back at my old Samsung A530 (specifically the GET IT NOW button) and the fact that any kind of additional application on that phone required payment I can see where Apple may be going with this. I hope I'm wrong.

Yup... it is.

Home button double-tap settings now...
Home
Phone Favorites
iPod

TV Out settings available now...

Safari Developer debug console now...

Data roaming under network...

more to come... im gonna keep digging around...

My iPod touch has all of those features minus the ones specific to the iPhone and I'm on version 1.1 . I guess the touch already has the software update.

So I think everyone who has AppTapp has the same questions:

1) What happens when you try to upgrade? Does iTunes warn that it needs to restore and then update? Does everything still work OK after that?

2) Can I just restore my phone first and then update? Everything OK after that?

Nothing. Updates fine.
