I'm waiting to see how the whole conspiracy thing is resolved on iLounge, they were pretty harsh on 4 different things--not siding with Apple here, just would like a little more time to see what happens.

Agreed. iLounge has been in a bad mood lately :) They have slammed Apple in cases where clearly the facts were not in yet.

(I wonder when their iPod Touch review will be updated to reflect that their bad screen was in fact an issue Apple has fixed, and not a problem with every Touch?)

Just bought the new Foo Fighters album via iPhone. Worked flawlessly and just as fast as on my Macbook Pro.

I think Apple deserves some recognition today for what may be the most significant update "ever" to any handheld/cellphone/pda device. The iPhone may not be perfect, but the platform allows it to evolve and that is why I own one.

The update installed flawlessly and the new features are groundbreaking. The wifi store is very well implemented. Great job Apple!

I have an unlocked phone and running App Tap unless they come out with flash support and other usable features I'm not upgrading it's a no brainier.

I set my home button to Favorites instead of iPod functions, but if you turn on, then double click home button without 'sliding to unlock' you get the ipod functions which is a nice way to listen to music without unlocking.

I have my Home Button set to go to my favorites on a double click too, and it doesn't go to them, it always goes to iPod functions, never my Phone Favorites. Even when I turn off iPod functions, nothing new comes up and only the standard sliding unlock screen appears. Anyone else get this?

Yeah. Um. This ipod touch update fixed (via software) whatever negative black issue my phone was having... and it was having it bad. So, yay! and... you were wrong. This is huge news. Mods need to start a new thread for this one.

if true, this is GREAT NEWS! can anyone else confirm??

I was playing music and had a call come in that only range once, so I unlocked and went to missed calls and called the person back. The whole time the music was still playing, even while the phone was ringing, kind of like music on hold, then even played for a second or two after the person said 'hello'. I though it was going to continue to play during the conversation but faded out. I don't know if that is a feature or bug.

Too bad I wish they do something about it. i would love to download and watch a movie when I am away from my computer getting bored.

Or the ability to download the latest episode from a favorite tv show before you go on a train commute home? I am hoping they add this in the future, but movies and TV shows are pretty hefty downloads.

Just noticed that volume limiting seems to be broken now. I never used it before but thought it might be worth testing out. I set it to about 10%, then go into the iPod and crank the thing up to 100% with no problem...Even tried setting a password for the volume limit and that doesn't seem to work either.

No, IMAP on the iPhone is slower and more sluggish. However, IMAP gives you real folders (folders that you create and name), although you do have to pre-create the folders on the IMAP server (you cannot create IMAP folders from the iPhone).

Actually, IMAP should be faster than POP3 as it only checks for new messages whereas POP always downloads everything.

I press home or power button to turn on, then press the home button twice. The ipod functions show up at the top of the screen, overlaid on the background image. The slide to unlock still shows at the bottom.

Only functions available are: previous, pause/play, next and volume.

So i can no longer hear the ringtones i have put on there thru the itunes method. I havent tested to see if they will still ring when somebody calls, although they are still in the list itself and still show on contacts.

Did we have a choice for what noise we get with a text message in 1.0.x??

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet but homemade ringtones (the .m4r hack) with iTunes 4.0 no longer works with the firmware upgrade. :( The ringtones show up in the phone but won't play.

Well, that is a bummer...

So you have 7.4 of iTunes?

I running 7.4 iTunes, and have some .m4r files in iTunes, and they work great with the current 1.0.2 firmware.

Will the 1.1.1 update cause them NOT to play?

yeah, I wonder why they didn't make ringtones available. Seems like a no-brainer, but perhaps they couldn't slim up the ringtone editor enough to fit it in the (153.2MB!) iPhone software.

Lets not forget that this is the first version of iTunes WiFi. They probably want to see how well it works and get some feedback before they attempt to add any new features to it. They are also probably interested in how many people are actually going to use it to buy songs.

Anybody here know how to restore back to 1.0.2? When I update to 1.1.1, I get a "incorrect sim" I already downloaded the 1.0.2, but don't know how to put that into itunes

kr3st on everything iphone is reporting that his itunes workaround custom ringtones are still working after the update. He is using itunes 7.4.1.2 Any ideas on why it worked for him but not others?

Here is the thread FYI:

I'm trying to get a phone call from somebody who has a custom ringtone to see if it works and im about to sit down at my computer and look more into whether it can be fixed

???

:(i want to know where the carier option is under settings as well as the international option under settings-general, i was hoping this update would have these like the pictures from the UK phone on engadget:(

Still no way to select and delete multiple e-mail messages.

and no COPY and PASTE

Weak update if you ask me. I was hoping for more.

I would have thought these issues would have been rather simple to implement over the course of three months.

Alert volume feature? Where?

Okay, I'm dumb, I found all the new features but adjustable alert volume? Where is that setting? Thanks.

Yeah, this is really the difference between the iphone and all other phones on the market. OS X is the killer app and allows the iphone team to continue to expand functionality and features on the device.

Personally I'm waiting on v2.0 of the iphone before taking the plunge but it amazes me that there are people that don't grasp the exact point you are making. Does it cook dinner for you? No, but if enough people wrote to steve jobs and asked him to incorporate that functionality then it wouldn't surprise me if they could find a way to make it happen, haha.

We can change the Text message alert!

THANK GOD!

They still suck...but beats that inaudible marimba.
