Anyone wanting to try the iTunes WiFi without paying money? If so, just go to the iTunes store on your computer and see who the free single of the week is by and simply search the artist and find the song that says free and get it. I just did and it worked fine, took about 12 seconds to dl the song.

Agreed. iLounge has been in a bad mood lately :) They have slammed Apple in cases where clearly the facts were not in yet.

(I wonder when their iPod Touch review will be updated to reflect that their bad screen was in fact an issue Apple has fixed, and not a problem with every Touch?)

Funny, I have been checking back on the review every other day, just to see. Makes you wonder how many people who've read the review still believe the screen really is worse (intentionally) than the iPhone's.

which artist? All I've seen free songs on iTunes that are $0.99 on iTunes WiFi

Maybe someone mentioned this already, but the iTunes Store definitely does NOT work over Edge. It seems implicit in the name, but I know the question had been raised in previous threads.

I downloaded a song called Car Crash by Matt Nathanson. Just search "car crash" and in the results there should be one with a "free" icon instead of the "$0.99"

If early reports are correct and this is, indeed, not bricking unlocked phones, we have all sorts of things to speculate about!

1. Is Apple *intentionally* not breaking the unlocked phones?
I think

Is Apple *intentionally* not breaking the unlocked phones?

and

Is Apple not *intentionally* breaking the unlocked phones?

say two completely different things. Need to define that for sure before a good answer can be given.

Worth mentioning that the 1.1.1 update includes the following security updates, some fairly serious others less so.

I'm trying to get a phone call from somebody who has a custom ringtone to see if it works and im about to sit down at my computer and look more into whether it can be fixed

I have heard 4 reports that the custom ringtones via itunes workaround doesn't work after the firmware update and one report that it does.

We need more info. From the one that does work, here are the specifics:

1. Itunes 7.4.1.2 used

2. Used the change to m4r method AND back to M4a (could this be the reason?) to get the ringtones on the phone

Custom Ringtones aplied to contacts

The custom ringtones that I applied to my contacts survived my update to 1.1.1 and are still working. I have had call from one of my contacts and it still plays my custom ringtone.

Volume? Still sucks. Nothing changed at all.

I can find absolutely no difference in speaker volume whatsoever. Unless you're in a quiet hospital, forget using the speakerphone. Voicemail playback as well. Sucks.

But I don't get it. iPod cranks in speaker volume, by comparison.

OK. I installed AppTap on Monday, and quickly did a restore Tuesday after the PR about the "Bricking". When I restored I set it up as a new phone and not from any previous backups. I think that's the trick.

I just installed 1.1.1 and all went well w/ the install. :apple: Now must go check out the WiFi Store.

Custom ringtone still working

I'm here to confirm as well, I did the .m4a self created ringtones with 7.4.2 I never upgraded to 7.4.3 on my mac, and although the ringtones no longer shows up on my list in the iPhone, but they still work when the contact they assigned to calls. This is also true for the alarm feature, so if you had your custom ringtone assigned to something, they most likely still works.

OK, I'll give you those two and maybe some others. They still strike me as the least desirable of those basics. I'll take your word for it that people wanted a WiFi store, and its not that I have a problem with it being there, its just frustrating that I have a device where I can purchase mp3s over WiFi but I can't text two people at once, MMS, mass delete email, turn the phone sideways in every app, etc. I'm not anti-WiFi store per se, but I do find it frustrating that they had developers spending time on the WiFi store and not doing some of the other things that seem pretty basic.

I so agree!
I was wishing on this update the ability to text more than one person at a time and being able to receive MMS and other more important features thatn the WIFI Music store.

mm..after I upgraded my iPhone to the latest firmware, my Timezone is set to Cupertino and my usage stats data are wiped out. I guess I should go over all the settings and make sure Apple didn't change anything accidentally.

Just noticed that volume limiting seems to be broken now. I never used it before but thought it might be worth testing out. I set it to about 10%, then go into the iPod and crank the thing up to 100% with no problem...Even tried setting a password for the volume limit and that doesn't seem to work either.

Tried a restart of the Phone and still no-go, like I said, I hadn't used the volume limit settings on 1.0.2 so I'm not sure if this is a new or existing issue. Anyone else notice this?

New Ringtones

Did anyone notice that there are some new basic ringtones added - unless I just didn't see them before: Strum, Timba, Pinball, Robot and I think Trill. Can anyone confirm these?

I installed in 6 minutes. Did have a problem with SSL setting in one of my POP accounts but fixed it.

The double space period in email is GREAT!:D

iBrickr ringtones not working

I used iBrickr on my XP system previous to this release and had several ringtones, different sounds for lock/unlock, etc and all have disappeared. However, in Contacts it says now under my wife's number "user:Fergie..." where I had uploaded a custom Fergie ringtone for her. However, now when she calls it reverts to the default iPhone ringtone, so the ringtone file is not there even if it says it is.

My update went smoothly, and did a re-activation. But I lost no email, photos, contacts, phone records, etc...

I sorely miss my installer.app items...the iPhone looks kinda ugly without summerboard on there!

Love the Home button enhancements. And speaker volume is increased IMHO.

Also, the Apple video says the TV out works with "Apple AV cords", not sure which one. I'm going to try my DLO Home Dock (I have regular and deluxe as well) when I get home tonight to see if that works for TV out on iPhone, it does work for my 30gVideoiPod. Otherwise, I'm off to the Apple store tonight at the mall to see what cables are avail...

Good update overall, eventhough I (temporarily so far) lost all my installer.app apps.

Increased ringer/speaker volume?? Screw your fancy unlockery and app tap shenangians, this is all I ever wanted out of my iPhone :)

The double-space period thing is VERY WELCOME too :D

As a former Blackberry user, let me add a HALLELUJAH!

As for the rest, I love the WiFi store. I use iTunes, so yes - I actually do appreciate a feature that gives me access on my iPhone.

99% sure all those ringtones are old. I know for sure 4 of them were.
