I'm not sure if anyone else had this experience but this is what happened to me:

I used installer.app a few days ago so I could see what all the fuss was about before it got disabled with this update. I tried several apps but I only left one row of apps on my phone.

Today, I updated the software and unlike the other reports I read, it did not make me restore my phone. It updated my phone perfectly. Obviously it did remove the 3rd party apps, but at least I didn't have to restore. I imagine my case was the exception to the norm.

My iphone updated with no problem, but my girlfriends new iPhone, would not.
It will not restore and gives me unknown error 1604. She has had it two weeks and has no hacks at all. Any ideas other than returning it?

Same thing happened to me. It took me three attempts to restore my phone. I unplugged it, held the "Home" key and "On/Off" switch until it restarted and gave me the "triangle" connect to iTunes message. I reconnected and restored it, finally got it working.

Sadly, all my custom icons and ringtones are now gone, but at least I don't have a $599 brick.

Three tries to get it to work

First, I never hacked my iphone - I'm an AT&T customer and didn't install any thrid party apps. I did add some ringtones with iToner.

The update started to install and an error alert popped up telling me my iPhone could not be updated. When it tried to restore, I got the same error. On the second try, the same thing happened. Then, when I was on the brink of a stroke from stress, the 1.1.1 update installed with the third attempted restore and my iPhone is syncing now. Thank God!

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Anyone else have a weird Bluetooth issue? My headset connects fine but when I go to the Bluetooth settings on the phone, next to Devices I see a spinning icon and it doesn't seem to ever stop. I still see the headset I have paired with it in the list but it's just that spinning icon that bugs me.

That has always been the case. Just close out and your headset should work just fine.

The built in quicktime player on the iPhone supports both streaming audio and video, and there are already quite a few streaming radio stations out that work great with the iphone (even provide iphone-like pages). You can do it over EDGE.

I bought an iPhone for some chick, and that was about the first thing she did...found it on google no less.

Wow "some chick" is a lucky girl.

Anyone noticed that if you have a Yahoo account on your iPhone. Under Settings > Mail > Your Yahoo email account > Advance. There is a new switch saying "Use push mail"? :)

Going to try it out to see if it's really "pushing"

hacked with installer.app....1.1 downloaded and installed nicely without any issues...my apps are gone, but im not bricked.

anyone else notice zero improvement in the speakerphone?

Oh My F%$#*&^ God!

Okay... Just ran the update and have done some testing, and I'm just stunned.

The volume issue was first and foremost on my hate list. And, well... It's not much louder. The receiver is only a tiny bit louder, and the speakerphone is still useless.

WHAT THE HELL IS IT GOING TO TAKE APPLE!!! ?

And before anyone flames me for being deaf... I assure you, I'm NOT.

I'm increasingly disappointed with my apple products. Anyone remember when they just worked "Insanely great" in the first place right out of the box and only got better. Apple is becoming more and more like Microsuck.

Sad really...

Oh well... WTFYGD? I'm off for a swedish massage. Have a good night everyone!

1.1.1 recognizes iTonered m4r

The iPhone wont play them, but if you use iToner to load an m4r, it will show up in the ringtones menu...

Useful, no. Interesting though???

Three attempts by me, no luck then I restarted the computer and bingo restored and updated. I never hacked my gf's phone. Mine which was hacked and restored weeks ago updated no problem.

BTW, if you recall they claimed it would have a push-mail solution. IMAP is trash and far, far from a solution.

The Push Email that was annouced is Yahoo Push Email. However, it is not that reliable.

However, not sure I agree that IMAP is trash. It is a good solution for some.

Um... you're deaf. The speakerphone was fine (maybe a LITTLE low) before, and it's definitely fine now.

P.S. What the hell is everyone complaining about that Apple locked down the phone? Geez, how dare they keep you from illegally hacking and changing the software on their device that explicitly says all over the place you're not permitted to do so. If you don't like Apple's software or product, don't buy. Why does everyone think it's their right to change the thing? Bravo Apple. Lock it down like Martha Stewart's... well, you know. I'll keep enjoying my bug free iPhone.

album art

ok so what happened to the album artwork that used to be displayed when you woke up the phone.. Now you get the iPod controls

I liked the artwork

can anyone tell how much louder the speaker and ear piece is...

That is the only reason I would consider giving up my 3rd party apps.

Thanks

The ear piece does seem to be a bit louder...the speaker I can't tell a difference really.

i would say not much at all with respect to the earpiece. In fact, it sounds about the same as before the update. My test is to have a conversation in my car...still very tough to hear unless you have the phone pressed hard against your ear.

Thanx Clintob....

As I mentioned in my post... I'm NOT deaf. My iPhone must be defective then. But I do appreciate the feedback my friend. Have a good one. ;)

I agree with you. I would def. use 3rd party apps if :apple: allowed it. I really just want my phone to be perfect. I think the 3rd party apps is not bad compared to people unlocking the phone. What really bothers me are the people that are like "oh its Jobs master plan to have people unlock the iphone". No it's not. He is the CEO of a for-profit company. And his company is LEGALLY in a contract with AT&T. Although, I don't really mind when people unlock their phones - they just want to use it without being tied down with AT&T.

Anybody here know how to restore back to 1.0.2? When I update to 1.1.1, I get a "incorrect sim" I already downloaded the 1.0.2, but don't know how to put that into itunes

Hold down the options key while clicking on the restore button in iTunes. It should show you the file browser where you can locate the firmware to use for the restore.

Did you update to 1.1.1 on a unlocked phone? If so, then you can forget about downgrading. For now.

Speaker is Okay.. not AS LOUD as i thought it be... it's FIne now i can hear.. but would like it to be Louder... is there any way to go back to 1.02 ?? I want my Apollo and MobileChat... back.. not big difference really... if only they would add iChat to the iPhone...

my question is, do i have to restore before the update (i have apptap)? or will it just get rid of it for me. the restore kinda takes a while is why i ask

I have the old firmware (from the link to Apple's site that modmyiphone.com had), but what do I click next? This was on a locked iPhone, so I simply want to go back and try jailbreak with my old SIM. I just got my iPhone yesterday.

NM: You have to pick the zip file itself - but I had no luck, got an error (1) message.

I had used the modmyiphone steps to unlock my iphone. I did a full restore to 1.0.2 on Monday thinking my phone was set back. I am an AT&T customer using the SIM that came with my iPhone.

I got this after the update:

On the phone it says: Incorrect SIM. insert an unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone.

Itunes says: "only compatible AT&T SIM cards maybe used to active iphone. Please insert the SIM that came with your iphone or vist an AT&T store to reeve a repleacement sim card."

This is the original SIM card.

I took my phone to an AT&T Store and got a replacement SIM card. iTunes will not reactivate the phone with the original SIM or a replacement SIM.

I'm at an Apple Store now and pretended that an error happened during my update. The apple tech said it must have corrupted the phone during the update. She told me I'm the first person to come into the store with this problem. She gave me a brand new replacement phone. :D

Now she is on the phone with AT&T to match the serial number of the replacement phone on my account.

Actually, its not illegal - even if your EULA prohibits it (discussed recently on this very site). I think the flaw in your logic is that once I purchase the device, its my device, not theirs. If I were renting / leasing it, I'd agree with you. But I think that if I buy something and want to change it, I should have (and do have) that right. Don't give up your rights so quickly and easily - you might wake up one day and miss them!

Now, I do agree with you, if you want to run bug free, don't hack it. Apple should make it difficult to modify, and I applaud their stated position of not "intentionally" trying to break things. I desperately hope they release a sdk that will allow applications that will not be affected by updates, sandboxed for safety, and allow for the extension of an awesome device -- then everyone will be happy.

Double Tapping Home Button

Has anyone been able to get their iphone to go to favorites instead of showing ipod controls? No matter what I check off on general preferences all I can get is the ipod controls when double tapping.
