iPhone firmware update 1.1.1 released!

Just updated to 1.1.1

Still have my custom ringtones but I haven't touched it since the update.

There is also a new text message sound menu.

Don't notice any sound improvement yet.

Still playing with it.

For that same reason, I doubt there will be any streaming media players (such as Pocket Tunes on the Treo) which pretty much blows. BTW: I consistently was able to stream a 128 stereo mp3 stream on the Treo over ATT/Edge.

The built in quicktime player on the iPhone supports both streaming audio and video, and there are already quite a few streaming radio stations out that work great with the iphone (even provide iphone-like pages). You can do it over EDGE.

I bought an iPhone for some chick, and that was about the first thing she did...found it on google no less.

Ringtones placed into iTunes (7.4.1) by MakeiPhoneRingTone no longer works with the new update as expected. However, the ringtones are still in the Ringtone section in iTunes. Hopefully they will update their software. And of course, as already noted, all installer.app programs are gone and I needed to do a full restore.

The good thing is that there was no permanent damage by installing/using either of these apps.

Relax, it's only a matter of time before all of this software is updated, however, I am a bit concerned about Apple's "warning".

losing ability to use unactivated SIM, running 1.0.1

I bought my wife an IPhone, and activated with her existing AT&T SIM; she did not like the EDGE, so I deactivated. Since then I have used IFuntastic to Jailbreak the iPhone once or twice, and noticed for some reason this week that the Iphone began recognizing my work AT&T SIM (it has EDGE). Today I thought I would try the Installer.App third party apps, but after I installed it the IPhone started seeing my work SIM as incorrect. How do I get the device to see my SIM? Will a regular Restore do it?

I am surprised that there are so few people complaining about this. Isn't anyone else annoyed that you can't get a picture sent from a friend anymore without going to a website?

THis is absolutely my #1 complaint since i opened the box and activated my iPhone.

your friends and e-mail the picture to you by sending the picture to your e-mail address that you set up on your phone rather than sending it to your phone number. and the other way around you can send a picture to your friends if you e-mail then using phonenumber@mms.att.net

Bluetooth Problem

Anyone else have a weird Bluetooth issue? My headset connects fine but when I go to the Bluetooth settings on the phone, next to Devices I see a spinning icon and it doesn't seem to ever stop. I still see the headset I have paired with it in the list but it's just that spinning icon that bugs me.

I have a similar problem now with the bluetooth setting. I get a spinning icon when I turn it on. When I exit the bluetooth screen the general settings screen shows that its off. Another thing I just noticed while tapping this out on the phone is that initially the auto-correct/complete was working and half way through it has stopped.

That was never the real fear. The real concern is if it bricks the iPhone because of a hardware switch that detects unapproved SIMs and literally disables the HARDWARE after X iterations of failure.

The recent statement by Apple that they have taken no intentional steps to prevent hardware or firmware mods by hobbiests seems to indicate this fear is not with basis.

AppleTV shows that if the same principal holds across those product lines, we will continue to see hacker like posts about post software upgrade hacks posted to what amounts to a bleeding edge consumer site.

Yeah, but where is all the good stuff like repeat alarming / notification. Why can't they add simple stuff like everyone has like showing upcoming Calendar events on the main screen before it is unlocked. Add a little red circle with the number of events for the current day on the iCal icon just like they do on the SMS / phone calls / email icon.

They did make it so you can change the ringtone without editing the contact, so there is a little new to that feature.

I have never seen a software that can not be hacked.
all they did is upload new soft so it's just a matter of time till it gets cracked.
Hardware is still same so just patience i would say to those that want the update.

The legit shareware program iPhone Drive is still functional after 1.1.1. This allows access to the iPhone's drive for file storage, and nicely when you purchase a license ($9.95) it's good for installation on 2 computers

Maybe Ambrosia should get together with these guys to figure out how to copy the ringtones over after 1.1.1...

WiFi iTunes Songs

OK I purchased a song on my iPhone through the WiFi Store, synced my iPhone to my Mac Pro, but the song is gone. Not on my phone nor on my computer. When you purchase a song via WiFi iTunes should it not download to your computer as well?

Updated with no problems. My iPhone hasn't been unlocked/hacked. I can't even begin to express how awesome the new double-click iTunes feature is. Ty Apple

I'm not seeing it. And by streaming, I'm not meaning downloading an mp3 file and playing it. I mean real streaming. Live. Live Shoutcast streaming, Virgin Radio in OSX iTunes streaming, etc

And I just noticed that Mail does now recognize that my Vonage VM attachments are .wav (even has the QT icon) when before it was a generic white icon. However, it's not playable on iPhone and clicking it gives a "This movie could not be played" error.

Wow. It's getting more impressive by the minute. That's OK. My friend has a BlackBerry, I'll just borrow it.

My iphone updated with no problem, but my girlfriends new iPhone, would not.
It will not restore and gives me unknown error 1604. She has had it two weeks and has no hacks at all. Any ideas other than returning it?

That only happens at the alarm time, not anytime during the day. Also gets hard to read when you start getting sms messages. As soon as you unlock it goes away, and you will never see it again unless you actively check the calendar. I will settle for the little circle thing with the number of today's events on the icon just like the other programs.
