If Apple releasea half decent and nice shinny phone that is also as well featured as a Nano I expect them to sell them in the hundreds of thousands.

Its probably a fake - although I imagine the real thing is very close.
Other comps are not Apple style.. this is. Whatever they make, it will be clean and simple, almost to a fault, ie: no removeable battery. My guess is that the actual phone will be shorter, more iPod/blackberry proportions.

Also - the tagline is dumb; the actual would be much better written.

Can Apple make a phone that ANY carrier can use?
I hope so. If anyone has clout right now, its apple. I imagine Jobs demanding that the phone be available to anyone, not just 1 carrier. Why limit the consumer base?

This is just bad enough and just real enough that it's really upsetting to consider that it might be the final product. What a mishmash.

Nostolgic controllers

So THAT's where my ColecoVision controller went!

Hey, if it's a fake, they did a good job in making look like a valid poster.

I am not suggesting that the white iChat mockup is real...or fake. Having read through the thread, however, the arguments for it being a fake are not very compelling as they sometimes are for other fakes. Having read everything here, I have no idea if this mockup is an actual Apple phone.

Agreed. No one has really made a very compelling case for it being a fake, especially considering how quickly a lot of fakes get torn apart on this board.

I'm not sure what all the complaining is about. I think it looks fine. The real question is what features it would have.

Because video was the big new feature of iChat, why would they take a step back with the hardware counterpart? Not to mention I couldn't imagine Apple releasing a non-3G phone which requires a camera in the front, there is no way in hell Apple would release old world technology.
Okay, but take note that it is iChat Mobile... not iChatAV Mobile

Sorry for the blurriness, I just had a little time when apple reps were talking turned away from me.

looks more like a phoney ericsson

I think it might be real...

I think it could be real. When I look at it I can definitely see the Apple style. I kinda like the design as well, looks much nicer than the phones on the market today. And compared with the size of say the new Razr K1 flipped open, its probably not as big as it looks.

I don't think the tagline is that bad either, it goes with their ads now. First it was "You love your iPod ? You'll love the Mac!". Now we have "You loved that Mac right? Then you'll also love this phone!". Also it seems like Apple could be diversifying their brands a little. iPod is now a brand of its own. Why not do the same thing with iChat? Sure we don't think of it as a brand on the same level as iPod, but it could get there if this phone takes off. And look at what happened with iPod. Apple is slowly taking over more and more areas of the digital hub.

While I do think this is fake, if Apple released a phone, especially one that syncs well with my Mac and somehow co-exists well with my iPod, I'd jump on it if it were offered for Verizon.

I thought the pictures of the bluetooth mighty mouse were fake too... haha.

That video is fairly convincing, but doesn't mean it's real. It looks realllllly long on the guys hand, how's that even going to fit in my pocket? How's it going to fit in my girlfriends pocket where her tiny flip phone barely fits now!

You guys are all screaming "fake" and "terrible design" which makes me think back to when the "MacBook" and "MBP" names were circulating around...and the switch to Intel. Then when it turned out to be real you whined like a bunch of children, began to accept it, and now you love it.

Also, this looks a hell of a lot more believable than all the other potential "iPhones" around the internet.

I don’t know if this one is fake, but if it is a VOIP phone that integrates with iChat, would you still need a numerical keypad or card slot?

Also I do think the screen will double as a camera, rumors of this technology have been floating for a long while.

I know what the apple phone will be!!!

It will be a mobile docking stastion/phone. Like the white remote looking thing, but at the bottom the bottom have will be missing because the new nano's will slide in the back, and dock with the phone. That way Apple still sells iPod's and Apple still sells a phone, and the user can choose between different gig models then.

Probably not... But hey you heard it first.

Ooh... good point.

Up until this post, I figured that the VOIP or iChatting model explanation was the one that made the most sense... I mean, why the heck would Apple get into the mobile phone business? People are so fickle... But you raise a very, very good point. You dont' need a numerical keypad for iChatting.

Did anyone else just now realize that the perspective on these look like you're looking... up at them? From below?

As if they were a huge sign hanging from the ceiling that had yet to be covered?

...it would explain why the copy of the ad is Mac-centric, anyhow...

Unless they are integrating Skype/VOIP into iChat. Then you WOULD need a keypad with numbers.

I think it's real, and a VOIP phone for the use of ichat. VOIP phones don't need to be large at all, a plugin to USB keeps the device powered, and it doubles as a camera for all of thso epeople who don't ahve isights, either stand-alone or built in.

If you can afford it, buy the phone outright... it will be SIM unlocked and not crippled.

The "iChat Mobile" had to be fake -- my brother works for a delivery company and was dropping some boxes off at the Moscone Center. While he was in the storage/delivery room, he saw a poster for the "iPhone" (apparently named the iCall) lying out on the floor, so he snapped a couple quick pictures with his (admittedly crappy) cameraphone.

I played with the brightness/contrast in Photoshop so it's a bit more visible/readable.

Sure, whatever

"Stay Close From Far Away"??? Kids may be able to Photoshop, but that doesn't mean they can write believable ad copy.

I THINK that, just maybe, the iCall one is just a joke - and intended to be so. You don't write a story like that and expect people to believe it...it's the usual JOKE story people write when mocking Apple rumors, like:

"I was walking along the road when the neighbor's, best friend's, cousin's, nephew dropped round and he was a delivery driver. He was asking where the Moscone centre was because he had to drop off a package to Mr. S J-o-b-e-s (He's from the moon so not good at pronounciation) which was labelled "Private" but he opened it anyway to see if that helped, and inside he found a box with "iCall" written on it. He turned it on to see what it did and it said "Hello, I am the secretive Apple iPhone. Welcome to my reign!" "

And that's then end of the story. Joke. Again. Like the iCall one.

Uber :)

Apple will not make a Clamshell folding phone. Apple's designs value Simplicity and Elegance. Something this phone has and a folding phone lacks. Although I dont like the shuffle type buttons, the rest of the phone is simple and elegant.

I know you are right, but it still bothers me. It's the 21st century now, officially The Future, and I feel cheated. We have no jetpacks, no flying cars, no household robots, and only a pale shadow of the space travel we were promised.

Despite all this disappointment, I DO have my flip-open communicator, and thus I can be happy. But what do I do if Apple releases a phone? It will be way better designed than the phone I have now, but if I get one, how will I know I'm in The Future?
