FACTS
  • Nintendo is launching their own DS store, which will be available to the 100 million plus DS users.

Uh, the new DS Store only works on the NEW Nintendo DSi, which launches tomorrow, so those existing 100 million DS's out there won't get to partake of that new feature unless they spend $170 to buy the DSi.

SOME apps will work and the original Nintendo DS and the DS lite, its just that some apps will require the camera and microphone in the new DSi

As to the graph, do you NOT see the growth pattern? Seriously, you crack me up.

The problem, is, that this is not a real growing. the 2009 Q1 bar reflects the worldwide sales, versus the 2008 Q1 bar that includes only US sales. So many scenarios can happen behind these numbers.

Companies look at growth based on time periods from the previous year. Apple's iPhone sales grew quarter to quarter both years it has been available. No sane person can say that doesn't show growth (not talking about you), even with the addition of new markets. Even if Target or Best Buy open 100 new stores, they will focus on total growth. If they make more money, yay. You sometimes see same store sales figures, but that's usually not portrayed as big.

And for the tool OP, please don't post this same thing every year. This is what the graph will look like for years because of the huge sales with the release of a new model and the huge holiday sales. iPod sales probably look similar going back to 2001.

Fact: iPhone is still better, even without the popularity vote.

Fact: Apple was always better, even without the popularity vote.

Fact: Geekiness became trendy.

Fact: Apple became popular because it became trendy.

Fact: Fads die, and so will Apple's popularity. (Like the fall of Rome.)

Fact: Apple and the iPhone will still be better when it's a geeky and trendiness die.

I don't know who told you that Fido has discontinued their 16GB iPhone. I just went to the website and both white and black 16GB iphones are listed and have nothing displaying that they will be discontinued.

You can't just hear a rumor and call it fact.

Nope, you are wrong sir. The DSiWare store is built-in to the new DSi firmware which is upgradable and has a channel system similar to the Wii. All DSiWare games can only be purchased and ran on a DSi system. The original and lite DS systems cannot run the DSi firmware that has the store on it.

Check here for a comparison between all systems and you will see the last item is the DSi store, which is NOT available on either existing DS system.

Sigh - Lets just say lots of people KNOWS that Apple has something on their sleeves. They don't want inferior product. Looking at sales trend, things slow down alot before the June Quarter because of WWDC. iPods slow down around the September times... They're all expected...

It's the Year to Year growth that really matters.

How come I don't see my house or family plan on that chart? I have (5) of those 3G iPhone contraptions in my house. Yaaawwwwnnnnn....:eek::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: *-5 Stars*

FACTS
  • iPhone has fallen out of the top ten on Cnet
  • iPhone sales are down:
    IPhone_sales_per_quarter.png
  • Fido has discontinued 16gb iPhone
  • Finding the iPhone page on Rogers website is nearly impossible
  • www.celebrityblackberrysightings.com is updated daily, www.celebrityiphonesightings.com (same owners) hasn't been updated since July 2008
  • Blackberry Storm has been recently been shown in many T.V shows; Gossip Girl, 90210, Law and Order SVU, House, Samantha Who, and more. iPhone has only been seen ONCE on T.V. on one show, and that's Ugly Betty, who watches that?
  • Apple hasn't updated the iPhone page of their site in months, and look at this picture:http://www.apple.com/ca/iphone/gallery/#image2
  • Best Buys and Wal-Marts in my area used to have a whole section or kiosk of about 20-30 demo iPhones that could be used, now it has been reduced to about 3-5 and the section has been replaced with other phones.
  • The Apple Stores have taken down the huge tv. iPhone displays in the window.
  • iPhone is no longer listed in Best Buy's weekly flyer.
  • iPhone App Store is more popular than the actual iPhone.
  • iPhone used to make up more that %80 of Engadget and Gizmodo's posts, after emailing some of the editors, they revealed that iPhone now makes up about %15 of posts.
  • iPhone is still not available in many countries, and Apple hasn't expanded availability since the release of iPhone 3g.
  • Rogers has introduced 3.5g speeds, and of course, iPhone 3g doesn't support it, but Blackberry Bold and Curve do.
  • Rogers is also ditching the 16gb iPhone
  • Rogers is wrecking 6gb accounts: http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/0...cking-6gb-accounts-fido-ditching-iphone-16gb/
  • Nintendo is launching their own DS store, which will be available to the 100 million plus DS users.
  • Apple has discontinued the iPhone Bluetooth Headset.

Lets hope Apple has something revolutionary coming.

Thanks Capt. Obvious.
Its called saturation. Everyone isn't going to be able to afford or even want to pay $100/month for an iPhone. Some areas of the US/World don't have cell phone coverage with ATT or whichever carrier.

Apple needs to keep refreshing the iPhone to keep the fanboys buying.

Just thought I'd throw out a little more disproving info for the OP.

I watched "I Love You Man" last night. GREAT movie. BOTH of the main characters use iPhones. And they actually feature the Marimba ringtone (rather than altering it to some dumb standard ringer) and actual screenshots.

PLEASE DO NOT FEED OR TOUCH THE TROLL.
You can look though.
Seriously, this guy has 13 posts, all in this thread. He starts a thread based on twisted facts about a "failing" Apple product in an Apple forum just to see all of you argue and try to tear apart his poorly put together reasons.

I believe that is the exact definition of a troll.
You may be right. Definitely TROLL indicators there.

I am laughing hysterically at this thread now because I just read this from the Giz:

http://i.gizmodo.com/5198694/att-rapidly-expanding-network-to-accommodate-new-iphone

Nope, you're right! It's losing it's popularity. That's why AT&T is preparing their network to increase tenfold.

ROTFL
Good find.

I've heard whispers of improved networks here in Japan. The pieces seem to be falling in place.

I bet there will be a shortage of iPhones when the next model is released.

Blackberry Storm has been recently been shown in many T.V shows; Gossip Girl, 90210, Law and Order SVU, House, Samantha Who, and more. iPhone has only been seen ONCE on T.V. on one show, and that's Ugly Betty, who watches that?

Actually, if you watch "Life" you will see an iPhone ad on the back of a newspaper (2wks ago)

AND, NPH on How i met your mother has one. (REALLY DISTRACTING when he holds it to his face and you can see its on the contacts list, thus the sensors dont turn off the screen)

All versions of the iPhone have been out for quite a while now, of course sales are going to drop. Wait until the 3rd gen iPhone is released and watch sales boom again :)

Has anyone questioned where this graph comes from?

I am from the UK and found the iPhone on rogers website within a minute.
4 Pages for this?

About the TV and movies thing, why hasn't anyone mentioned 30 Rock yet? Everyone on there has a Mac and iPhone this season.

But to the OP, you obviously don't watch enough television if you think that Ugly Betty is the only show to have iPhones in it. The iPhone is probably the most seen phone on television.

I just want to point out... Look at the chart again... both years are basically the same. Obviously, there are more sold this year because the price was cheaper. So, to the people saying that its just the life cycle of the iPhone 3G you are 100% correct. As for the OP... You must be out of your mind. Do you think before you type?

I worked at an AT&T store up until this past February, and the iPhone is the easiest phone to sell... It's the only phone where I successfully talked people out of getting the free Nokia 2600 and into an iPhone (No, not kidding)... Doing something like that is just not possible with a Blackberry or a WM Device.. That is why the iPhone will ALWAYS be popular its EASY.... Even easier than the basic free phone.

OK now...

Fido has discontinued 16gb iPhone

No big deal. They know something else is coming.

Finding the iPhone page on Rogers website is nearly impossible

And?

www.celebrityblackberrysightings.com is updated daily, www.celebrityiphonesightings.com (same owners) hasn't been updated since July 2008

Because it's not a big deal. I suspect many of them have Blackberrys because they're given to them in contracts...

Blackberry Storm has been recently been shown in many T.V shows; Gossip Girl, 90210, Law and Order SVU, House, Samantha Who, and more. iPhone has only been seen ONCE on T.V. on one show, and that's Ugly Betty, who watches that?

It's called paying for placement.

Apple hasn't updated the iPhone page of their site in months, and look at this picture:http://www.apple.com/ca/iphone/gallery/#image2

No need to.

Best Buys and Wal-Marts in my area used to have a whole section or kiosk of about 20-30 demo iPhones that could be used, now it has been reduced to about 3-5 and the section has been replaced with other phones.

Was never huge at my Best Buy or Wal-mart...but the iPhone is in the Best Buy circular every week.

The Apple Stores have taken down the huge tv. iPhone displays in the window.

I still see the huge iPhone displays in the windows.

iPhone is no longer listed in Best Buy's weekly flyer.

See above

iPhone App Store is more popular than the actual iPhone.

Proof?

iPhone used to make up more that %80 of Engadget and Gizmodo's posts, after emailing some of the editors, they revealed that iPhone now makes up about %15 of posts.

That's because they're all Palm fanboys now. They're terrible bandwagon jumpers. Just wait for them to jump back on with the next device.

iPhone is still not available in many countries, and Apple hasn't expanded availability since the release of iPhone 3g.

They just did.

Rogers has introduced 3.5g speeds, and of course, iPhone 3g doesn't support it, but Blackberry Bold and Curve do.

Would it any surprise for a Canadian provider to give an edge to a Canadian manufacturer?

Rogers is also ditching the 16gb iPhone

And? See above.

That's their own fault.

Nintendo is launching their own DS store, which will be available to the 100 million plus DS users.

And?

Apple has discontinued the iPhone Bluetooth Headset.

Because it never sold well and was poorly designed. And with stereo bluetooth coming...

The graph doesn't seem to support the conclusion that the iPhone is losing popularity.

Q1 sales this year are much higher than the same period last year. In business, because of the seasonal nature of consumers buying habits, you compare quarterly results with the same quarter in previous years.

Exactly! see post 24
