i like the form factor of my 12 mini. a mini pro might be nice.
but the worst part of the mini has been battery life. itʻs atrocious. i cannot get through. work day on a single charge...never mind doing stuff with it on vacation, etc.

while moving up in size to a 14 pro will be painful, the battery life will make up for it.

Get a 13 mini. The battery life is night and day between it and the 12 mini.

By not selling well, that is for an Apple product. Just about every other non apple phone would not have as many sales as a mini. Maybe one or two Samsung models, but that would be it.

Apple won’t be getting my money this year. The 13 mini is perfect. Have one since launch sept 2021 and battery is still 100%. I have the 13 pro as well and it’s just too heavy, even though it’s a great device in itself. I use the mini as my daily driver.

I'm a huge fan of my 12 Mini (also have a 13 Mini as a burner with a number nobody except God knows) and was mildly depressed with the size form was discontinued. But the 13 Mini is still a beast and I bet it sticks around for another year till the next SE takes over.

Oh, and my 13 Mini is still at 100% battery integrity.
My launch day 13 mini was 100% battery health until yesterday when it dropped to 97%, which is still excellent after almost a year.

iPhone Technician here.. we have seen an uptick in battery related issues with the 12 & 13 mini. Due to the small foot print od the mini's battery, it requires charging more frequently with normal use from an average user. Our clients in sales can not use the mini for work calls. The iPhone 12 Mini's battery cycle count is already beyond it's usable lifespan (~500 cycles) which is unusual for 2 yeara. The 13 mini's battery is better, but we see battery health degrading faster than the their low cost predecessors (SE 2020, SE 2022, iPhone Xr & iPhone 11)

Lol your clients cannot use the 12 mini for work calls, really? Tell your clients to stop the “jibba-jabba” (Mr T voice) and only talk business and be efficient! Stop wasting time trying so many sales tactics. It’ll work for calls. There is alway MagSafe battery add on when needed best for when not on calls. Reduce screen brightness when not absolutely needed. Start using profiles like sleep/work and custom profiles etc.

I absolutely love my 12 Mini. I'd like to pounce on a 13 Mini before it's too late or they're harder to find just so I can hang on to the form factor as long as possible.

But, I haven't done a model switcheroo in a long time and don't know what happens to the availability of discontinued models. Can someone help me figure out what would be the best route? Is it:

1. Look for carrier deals, such as incentives to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon, and do so ASAP (I don't use much data, so cell service isn't a big concern)?
2. Cross fingers for an unlocked 13 to be on sale at a lower price after 9/7?
3. Go buy a 13 Mini now no matter what?

Consider trade in deals or carrier subsidies but also isn’t Black Friday coming up as well? By then Apple will be fully trying to clear retail store stock of 13 mini.

The vast majority of the Mini-related speculation seems to center around whether the 13 Mini will stay in the lineup when the iPhone 14 models arrive. But, this has always felt like a slam dunk to me given that they kept the 12 Mini around last year (which was a subject that garnered a fair bit of debate before it was finally confirmed).

Meanwhile there is very little discussion about whether the 12 Mini will stay. I’m trying to understand why. Sure, it might be dropped, but I think most will acknowledge that the 11 is all but certain to be. So if not the iPhone 12 Mini, what will slide into the $499 slot vacated by said iPhone 11 aging out of the lineup?

It seems pretty unlikely that the standard 12 will see its price reduced from $699 today to $499 after the seventh. So that probably won’t be the one taking over. Maybe the prevailing hunch is that it goes $549, and there is no longer a $499 phone in the lineup? Or something else? I am curious what the theories are.

Admittedly the iPhone 12 Mini at $499 would likely be the death knell for the SE 2022 at just $70 more, with the only significant drawback on paper being the one-generation-older processor (well, for those that don’t hate FaceID, but that ship will sail into the sunset once the current SE is gone anyway). It could be that that fact provides Apple enough reason on its own to avoid such a move. Certainly the SE benefits from much higher margins if the Mini were to hit that selling price (and might even have higher margins at 12 Mini’s current $599 price).

What are the odds that the iPhone 12 mini gets discontinued (no longer sold on Apple's site) when the iPhone 14 launches? I don't want a refurb, but I want a price drop. Feels like quite the gamble!

all I want is a mini pro. small phone with the best cameras. please. one day. 🥺

These wishes for a “mini pro” are not helping the mini to survive. Too much wishful thinking is killing a solid product.

Sony in the past and currently Asus are THE only comoanies other than Apple to come close to packing real power into a small phone form factor.

The cpu in the iPhone is THE exact same chip in as the Pro and the only thing throttling that occurs is due to extended high end processor cycles. This in turn puts pressure on the primary fault of the mini or any smartphone small form factor, battery capacity!

Again, if you just want a smaller phone, the 13 Mini or 14 Mini are physically smaller than the SE 2020 and have larger screens.

Sure, that's never been in dispute. The whole point of this piece was what to buy if there is no more Mini. I guess we can all agree that it you want a Mini, and they sell a Mini, you should buy a Mini.

Banking on them keeping the 13 mini in the lineup and dropping it by $100 so i can upgrade my 12 mini. Fingers crossed.
Outta curiosity, I went thru and priced out a 13 mini the other day, including trading in my 12 mini. Basically, using their trade-in and two year financing, if I did it now, I would just continue to pay $29 a month for the upgrade to the 13 mini.

So, I too, will be waiting until the 14 is released to see if I an snag a 13 mini. If they drop it $100, the savings would be about $5 per month.
