i thought the next SE was going to be 6.1” lol

I guess the 12 mini will be your last iPhone then? Off to android??
Yes - I will look at Android. But from what I've seen Android has also discontinued reasonable sized phones. I have a Pixel 6a and like the size. But its discontinued and newer phones are much larger. Even bigger than iPhones.

And while I'm ranting :D I think they'd do even better with an iPhone Pro Mini, as the pro features are the main reason my friends don't get minis. I'd pay a premium for the size reduction
Exactly!!! I don't know anyone who was willing to get a Mini just because it was cheaper.
People wanted it because it was smaller.
If you want cheaper you could get last years big phone cheaper.
But it you want a premium small phone there was not one. You had to choose between the midrange Mini or the regular size Pro.
The other sad truth is that making a small premium phone is MORE expensive than making a big phone with plenty of room for electronics. It's too hard for Apple to figure out how to make a premium small phone. Sounds like they gave up.

My wife and I got 13 minis fall of 2021, and we've been mostly happy with them except for battery life. I did sometimes feel that the size that Apple chose for the mini screen was a little claustrophobic, and maybe just slightly larger would have been better. My wife is really happy with the 13 mini and will probably be disappointed years from now when hers has to be replaced for one reason or another, especially assuming Apple doesn't offer a similarly small phone down the line.
I decided to hand down my mini to my kid, and I replaced it with a refurbished 13 pro. I am really happy with the 120hz ProMotion display and longer battery life, but the 13 pro is noticeably heavy and it's bordering "too big" when pocketed and using one-handed. In the 2 weeks that I've had the 13 pro, I have started remembering why I was so happy to upgrade from an XR to the 13 mini, however, the benefits of the 13 pro outweigh the negatives. I never had an X or XS, but both of those were sizes slightly smaller than the XR/11/12/13/14. I think that a sweet spot would be probably a screen size between the mini and and the XS. It's amazing how millimeters can make a noteworthy difference when it comes to a pocket computing device.

What makes you think there would be artificial speed limits? There could be limitations caused by whatever chips are used. I don’t think a USB 2.0 thumb drive is artificially limited to USB 2.0.

I agree that artificially limiting the speed would be ridiculous
Reading the various articles about Apple limiting the transfer speed of anything but the Pro and Pro Max.

No, I'm not going to go looking for the articles again, so that you can read them.

Fans of smaller phones rejoiced when Apple introduced the iPhone 12 mini in 2020, followed by the iPhone 13 mini a year later. However, after nearly three years of availability, the end of the road might be near for the 5.4-inch device.

As noted by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, iPhone 13 mini stock is running low, with Apple's online store in the U.S. quoting a 2-3 week shipping estimate for some models, and even 6-8 weeks for a few others. The shortage suggests that the iPhone 13 mini might be discontinued after Apple announces new iPhones at its "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday.

Apple did not release an iPhone 14 mini last year, but it kept the iPhone 13 mini available as a lower-cost option, with pricing starting at $599 in the U.S. If you are interested in buying the iPhone 13 mini, now might be your last chance, as it is looking likely that Apple will discontinue the device on Tuesday after unveiling the iPhone 15 series. Apple's new lineup will likely consist of the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max, 4.7-inch iPhone SE, and the 6.1-inch iPhone 13.

While there initially appeared to be pent-up demand for a smaller iPhone, actual data suggested that the iPhone mini had low sales relative to other iPhone models. In April 2022, research firm CIRP estimated that the ‌iPhone 13‌ mini accounted for just 3% of ‌overall iPhone 13‌ sales in the U.S. in the first quarter of that year.

Going forward, customers who want a small iPhone from Apple will have to settle for the entry-level iPhone SE, but even that device is rumored to be updated with a larger 6.1-inch display in the next year or two. At least for the time being, it appears that Apple has realized that smaller phones just aren't that popular after all.

Disappointed.

Just ordered a pink iPhone 13 mini to replace Mom’s white 12 mini. Picking it up later today. She prefers that smaller size and didn’t like the look of the SE.
They usually drop in price right after the iPhone Event ends. Including the models that are discontinued. Hopefully you can get a price match.

I recall that in Germany at least, when the iP13 was officially released, the carriers had zero information on the 13 Mini. It was in fact then released 1 month later with its high price tag and I assume that by then, customers had already signed contracts for the 13 line up for the next 24 months.

I have obviously no idea if there would have been more sales had the release been concurrent. Also there was the marketing involved that for "just an additional" €100 one could have the iP13. I'm perhaps a niche buyer coming from a OG SE (for 6yrs) but I've had absolutely no regrets purchasing the 13 Mini start of this year and will be using for at least 5 yrs.

Let's see what happens and if the next SE indeed morphs into something similar a few years down the line or continues as an entry level offering with much less features.

Maybe some people like a smaller phone to carry around. The form factor is roughly similar to the iPhone 6/7/8/SE and they were quite popular for years.
"for years". Having a 56k Modem was also "popular for years". Seems like recently it wasn't popular at all, otherwise Apple wouldn't have discontinued them.

I'm sure there are people who want the best and most up-to-date phone as possible, but in a smaller form factor.
Well, it seems that reality is proving this point wrong. Otherwise Apple would have kept it if it was such a seller.
It doesn't mean that nobody wants the best and most up-to-date phone as possible, but in a smaller form factor. But not enough according to the study and Apple.

That tired old argument again? Go back and read the previous 10 pages of comments. Plenty of folks here are saying they'd gladly spend top price for a pro-level mini.
Go back and read all the threads about the iPhone SE and the Mini created here the last few years. You'll notice that many would enjoy a smaller, simpler and cheaper phone because they just want to be in Apple's ecosystem, but don't need pro-level features.

Your Plenty of folks here are saying they'd gladly spend top price for a pro-level mini are obviously not enough according to sales managers at Apple's. Surely, they would have kept the mini if proven otherwise.
