The SE was originally launched to keep a home button for those resistant to moving to the new gestures controls but many bought it for its smaller size, simplicity and low price. The home button will have been gone for nearly a decade soon — it’s time to move on. An iPhone mini at the bottom of the lineup would be perfect.
I think the SE was released to have a cheap iPhone option. Not size or home button or TouchID. At least imho ☺️

Not to forget, the current SE is the only option, if you don't wanna have the nodge or island display cutouts. We all know both are subject to be removed as soon as under the display technology for sensors and camera becomes available.
I would like to skip both in any possible case and need an update path for my SE2, please. Its still a decent phone speed wise, except for the Intel modem with its bad data transfer rates at low cellular signal.

So my wish would be a new SE/Mini without display cutoffs, a good modem and large battery.

The battery capacity of my 12 mini is down to 82 percent, but I still manage to get 24 hours between charges, and sometimes considerably more. That's with moderately light use, but does include one two-hour workout a day. If the mini is discontinued, I'll simply get the battery replaced in a few months and continue to use it for another few years. :)

Remembering iPhone 13 Mini...

One of a kind.

My gf needs a replacement for her old iPhone SE gen 1 and the replacement has to be the same size, she doesn't want the larger iPhone. I don't think Apple offers anything that small anymore? :rolleyes:
Unfortunately not. I loved my SE gen 1. I replaced it with a 13 mini but had to sell it as it caused by eyes to feel like they were burning and some headaches. My SE gen 3 is serving me well now even though it is a bit bigger than I would like.

For those interested, Mini’s possible future has already been explored at length here:

A brief summary of expressed mini shortcomings is:

1) not good battery life, coupled with bad thermodynamics (not enough space for a decent heat dissipation);

2) it is too expensive for a “small” iPhone (not enough perceived value for most people);

3) give me a mini Pro and I would pay whatever (a few people who choose to ignore the point 1 above);

4) give me a phone I can fit in my pocket and use one-handedly (the pockets argument is funny, however I don’t have a good solution for one-handed use).

For the record, I am a 12 mini user and I like everything about it. However, I also realise that at some point it will need to be replaced and at that moment my options would be:

a) trying to find a new 13 mini (apart from a new bigger battery and slightly better cameras, there is very little to rejoice about compared to 12 mini, IMO). I mean my current 12 mini works well, so I don’t want to buy 13 mini in advance, just in case Apple might surprise us at some point in the future with a sub-6” iPhone;

b) get the latest smallest offering from Apple, which in the near future will probably be iPhone 15 6.1” with all the modern bells & whistles.

For anybody feeling rough about mini’s possible disappearance, do mention it to Apple directly here:

Meantime, let’s see what the next week brings! 😉

Honestly I would blame more Apple than customers to why is was not a commercial hit.
Battery was not great and more importantly the price was too high.
The market for a small AND very expansive phone is niche and probably will always be.

Android doesn't offer mini-sized phones either. (The Zenfone is not small, it's almost regular-iPhone size.) Otherwise it'd be a serious consideration for me.

I think Sony’s Xperia starts at 5.9”, but that’s about it, the others are considerably larger. Funnily enough, Samsung’s 6.1” Galaxy S phones are also considerably more expensive than their 6.5” Galaxy A ones.

battery prices have increased recently. Just got my 12 mini replaced for $89 or $98 total. mine got down to 75% in almost 3 years but at that level it didnt run as smooth. Im keeping mine for another 2-3 years.

Cant run with a big phone bouncing around in pocket of running shorts or in hand.

Exactly. Good to see another runner here. I haven't checked the health of my 13 mini but I don't notice any degradation but it's on the charger most of the time unless I'm out running or out and about. We had the battery changed on an iPhone 8 recently and it was $69. I don't expect to have to change the battery on the 13 mini for another year.

There's always the option of a flip-phone or a candy bar phone.

Stupid morons. As if everyone has banana sized hands or even wants to do finger gymnastics ALL THE DAMN TIME. Apple just doesn't get it.
Apple does get it, though—don’t they?!?

The sales data that says all the non-bananahanders and/or non-finger gymnasts don’t buy enough of these phones to make the ROI worth it, that is.

On a 13 mini and I'm getting a new phone once either a new mini with USB-C is released, or I am finally allowed to install apps from other sources than the App Store, whichever comes first.

I guess Apple doesn’t want to keep the 13 mini and sell it at $499. If they did decide to keep it, that would give people a more modern looking alternative to the SE which they could price then at $399. If they do discontinue it, what will they have to sell at $499 since I have to assume the iPhone 12 is also being discontinued?
