Do you know what frequency your iPhone is? TMobile is the same as cinbell. I have heard that if you have an AT&T iPhone it will not run 3G on the Cinbell network but T-Mobile will. So check that first.

UMTS/HSPDPA (850/1900/2100MHz)
GMS (850/900/1800/1900MHz)

if I were to be outside of cincy and be in CinBell USA would those frequencys be any different, allowing for 3G connection?

While I'm thinking about it, is there a cyida based hack that can change the frequency that the iPhone looks for, or I that even possible?

I really don't think so. If anyone else is an expert on this, please feel free to jump in here.

I think that the phone is set to operate at a particular frequency. It can't be changed that I know of, I think that once it's set it's set.

Yes, Cincinnati works in out of state area's. In Nebraska it works. So i do not think you will have a problem. I do not know if the 3g network will work as i do not have the 3g sim card.

Having trouble with SMS/MMS 3GS

Was 3.1.3, JB with Spirit.

Upgraded to 4.0.1 with iTunes, then did the new jailbreakme.com

I reset all the MMS settings, did a test run with a pic and text and it all worked fine.

But now after a few days of working well, i cant seem to send any messages. I can still recieve them.

THoughts?

My 3GS is on 4.0.1, was jailbroken with Spirit on 3.1.3, now with jailbreakme. I haven't enabled MMS yet because I just updated to 4.0.1 last week.
Cincinnati Bell now has support for the iPhone on their site, including MMS, APN and VPN settings. It's pretty cool actually! There are tutorials for everything. Check it out!
EDIT: Well it appears the MMS settings are gone. I think Cincinnati Bell doesn't want the extra data load from MMS. They used to be there.

Ok, I have seen several people say that iPhone will attain 3G speeds if you are roaming on Cincybell. That makes sense that if you are a cincybell customer and you are in an area with only ATT, you would be using ATT network.
However, I have a 3GS with a CB 3G card in the Houston area and I dont get 3G data going on.
People seem to mention Lexington alot. Anyone actually in Lex with a iPhone 3g and a CB 3G card getting 3G speeds?

Again, seems to make sense hypothetically. But its not my experience.

Thanks yall!

I am not sure an iPhone will actually connect to CinBell 3G, i think it goes back to the frequency thing mentioned earlier. I have a 3GS with 3G SIM and have never been on 3G, even when i am in the Cincy area, or in Indy.

Maybe roaming is the only way to get connected to 3G?

If anyone has ever been connected to 3G do tell how?!

Roaming on CinBell with iPhone

I have a 3GS JB (snowbreeze) and unlocked (ultrasn0w) and works great on Cin Bell...at edge speeds. I understand that when on CinBell local towers that it will not connect at 3G due to the frequency differences, but when I nationwide roam it uses AT&T's towers. Then, it should be at least CAPABLE of going 3G. There must be a flag set somewhere in hardware (sim?) that tells the towers not to connect at 3G due to a deal with the original provider (CinBell in this case). In other words, AT&T's towers (or infrasstructure somewhere) knows that the communicating cell phone is from CinBell (that doesn't have the iPhone) so edge is all you'll get. If this is the way it works, the hack then would be to spoof the infrastructure to think that unlocked phones are on AT&T.
Anybody know for sure?

Still wanna bump this cuz this seems to be the only Cincinnati Bell thread out there.

Also has anyone been having issues where text messages will have a delay in coming to your phone? For example, if people send me a text at say 3pm I won't get any until 7pm and a bunch will get shot to my phone.

Thanks!:rolleyes:

I do have an the occasional day where my texts recieved/sent are on a considerable delay. And sometimes i will get duplicate messages.

Anyone tech savy know if its possible to change the iPhone 3G frequency so 3G works on bell network?

I have unlocked I phone 4, use Cincinnati bell wihout any problem. I have not been able to get 3G, outside Cincinnati bell range still get the edge network. Good signal strength all over

New iPhone 5 on Cincinnati Bell Wireless

I would like some input from someone as to which unlocked model of the iPhone 5 that I should purchase for use on my Cincinnati Bell Wireless account. I have listed below the specifications for the three models being released by Apple. Since I have no technical experience, I need help in determining the specific model that I should order. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

● UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz);
● LTE (Bands 4 and 17)

CDMA model A1429*:
● CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
● GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz);
● LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)

When I was a customer of Cincinnati Bell they were delighted to tell me which iPhone to buy, I would suggest you ask them (in person at your nearest Cincinnati Bell Store). You would be sure of getting the correct answer.

I would be cautious though, and make sure that your iPhone will run at acceptable speeds once you start using it with the Cincinnati Bell set up. When I was asking about doing that, the iPhone would run on Bell's set up but only at EDGE speed, and that would have been a disaster. They may have thought up a way around that by now (I would be surprised if they hadn't changed that all together).

Let us know what they say. I am curious. I liked being with Cincinnati Bell and would still be with them if they had gotten the iPhone. I don't have any complaint with AT&T either.

Good Luck.

Same here...after putting up with the EDGE speeds for a few months, I broke down and got the iPhone 4 on AT&T 2-year contract in Jan. 2011. I just used my upgrade and now have LTE on my iPhone 5. It makes me wonder how in the world I made it through those several months on EDGE. So yes, mskreind, make sure you talk with Cincinnati Bell and see what they recommend. I'de like to know if it is possible now to run an iPhone 5 on CinBell with full LTE speeds. I haven't paid any attention to CinBell in so long, I don't even know if they have an LTE network up. I would hope they do by now.
