So you're telling me a $600 phone with a 2 MP camera will not do MMS? That can't be right. My free Motorola RAZR will do MMS. to Apple for no MMS!

No MMS!!??!! How will I vote for the next American Idol ? (sponsored by Cingular/now AT&T)

New Imacs On June 29????

Rumors have put new iMac design at the end of June...

Anyone else think Apple will hold events at Apple Stores, give away free stuff, and have new iMacs for sale, too? Would be a kick butt event and sure to be a profitable night for Apple. Just my 2¢. :apple:

No MMS is my biggest complaint with the pocketpc phone I have now from Alltel. I had the same model under Sprint and was able to do MMS but when we moved to Alltel it was not supported. There have been many times when I wanted to snap a photo and MMS it to my mom or someone. Like it was said, email just does not work well unless the other person is sitting right in front of a computer waiting for it.

Umm, it still supports SMS. Unless you have been sending images in to vote, you'll be fine.

$40 data plan is too much

I pay $15 per/mo for unlimited 1xRTT on Sprint. First they gouge for the phone and now the data plan. The phone is not even taking advantage of 3G speeds. This is too much. I hope it's not true.

According to calls to AT&T stores, they just got info today. The data plan is $40. Stores will close at 430-5 to prep for the release, and then reopen at 6.

If that's true, it's ridiculous. T-mobile, $20 for unlimited data. I hope its counterbalanced by an inexpensive calling plan, or some kind of package deal that's available.

I have Procare and checked up on that. So far there is no option for iPhone, just Macs, iPods, and :apple: TV. Maybe an iPhone option will show up. Later on. I see what you mean about the line though. Guess we'll see.

Well, the phone IS an iPod ;) In Steve's interview with Walt at D, Steve first and foremost called it "the best iPod we've ever made!"

$40 a Cheap Data service!!

Ugh. $40 is a lot.

I guess you haven't priced a Verizon Data plan it's $79.99/month. For that amount you can get an Unlimited Family Talk Data Connect package and for just another one time charge of $49 you can get a 3G card for your laptop and be able to use them both. As posted on another forum earlier that $40 gets you 3G service and I'm betting the iPhone will ship as being 3G capable just like the Sierra Wireless cards at AT&T they are both EDGE & HSDPA capable on the same card. If Apple used the same broadband chip set VIOLA 3G in markets where it is available. Happy phoning on the 29th but watch for the Postal Employees.;)

While Steve Jobs gave us an exact time (6 p.m.) to line up for buy an iPhone, he didn't go into many details.

As it turns out, the iPhone will be sold on June 29th at 6 p.m. local time -- so East Coasters will get a full 3 hour head start over their West Coast counter parts.

A memo sent by AT&T confirmed this today:

It is really quite amazing how 6 pm local time on the west coast works out to 9pm on the east coast.

just 3 hours for me to get it on ebay before the west coasters!

(kidding, no really, a joke, seriously)

Hmm... you could probably make a nice profit out of someone, s/he'd still get it later than everyone else though :p

When will it be available on the online store?

29th June 2007

You'll probably be able to order it all day, as it wont ship till the next day in any case.

And if you have ProCare or whatever it's called, you can make an appointment 14 days in advance. But I doubt if there's a line they'll be yelling out names for people who made a Personal Shopping session.

If you had paid for it, then you'd have every right to complain if they didn't honor your reservation.

The phone is not even taking advantage of 3G speeds. This is too much. I hope it's not true.

In a month there wont be many phones taking advantage of 3G speeds as they wont be importable.

If you think that's amazing, you should check out the time difference between Hawaii and New Zealand... Oh boy are you in for a shock!!

I dont know why you would think it's going to be at all 3G capable. They have been very clear that the chipset is EDGE only. They wouldn't include a 3G chipset and not advertise it as such (not to mention specifically denounce it)

Only new models are in embargo, not existing models. Most phones released in the last year are HSDPA capable.

I guess I should clarify that $40 for a data plan is alot for ME, a grad student. Plus, Cingular's Media Max plan with unlimited data and 200 texts is $20 per month. I'd much rather have that since I don't text a lot.

EDGE only??

The reason they emphasize EDGE is the limited deployment of HSDPA here in the US, only major Metropolitan areas. If 3G was offered there would be a lot of PO'd people around the country who would only get EDGE speeds when sold 3G. But there will be some very surprised people in NYC, San Francisco, LA, Philly, etc when they get 3G service when they are within the city limits. For the couple cents difference in chip set prices why not install the better chip from the Get Go and make a lot of metropolitan employees very happy with their new multi-function phone.

lol, it's pretty funny how we are obsessing over the TIME that it will be released at...we all waited this long for it!

:)
AT&T does have a $15.99 Data Connect plan which has a 5MB monthly cap and it's $0.006/Kb if you run over. For $24.99 a Data Connect plan which has a 10MB monthly cap and it's $0.004/Kb for overages (If you would do 20MB in a month your data access bill would be $64.99 - $25 more than an unlimited plan). I've used a Verizon account on my G4 AlBook and you would be surprised how quick data bits pile up when browsing the web all those pictures and flash ads runs the meter like a gas pump pumping $3.75/gal gas.;)

I currently have the aforementioned 20 buck media max package, and I fully plan on keeping it when I go in to upgrade my existing phone to an iPhone, no way in hell they're charging me 20 bucks more a month for the same thing.

(Of course, I'm a grad student too, so I couldn't pay it even if I wanted)
