Bad News!!!!

I currently have the aforementioned 20 buck media max package, and I fully plan on keeping it when I go in to upgrade my existing phone to an iPhone, no way in hell they're charging me 20 bucks more a month for the same thing.

(Of course, I'm a grad student too, so I couldn't pay it even if I wanted)

If you would read the AT&T Training manual referred to earlier in this thread you would notice that the MediaNet service is not compatible with the iPhone Pages 30 & 33 of the manual state that for Web Browsing or Google Maps that the MediaNet service is not compatible. In my previous post I listed most of the Data Plans available along with pros and cons starting at $15.99.

Only new models are in embargo, not existing models. Most phones released in the last year are HSDPA capable.

Yes, knew that, but it will have an impact, sure it wont be noticeable to existing owners, but new users will face some issues. And that can only be good for Apple.

Cindy help us out

silly people
:p

Since you posted all the pictures of the manual maybe you can help shed a little more light on the Data Plan pricing, possible 3G accessibility, possible solutions to avoid open hostilities in the stores.

Anyone have any facts as to why so Friking late in the day???

It lets people get there after work, but more likely it is so the line up can go all the way round the block for the TV coverage,

You have to admire Steve for knowing how to put on a show for the media,

You are so right about that! If it were 8:00 am, only the freaks would camp out, but this way all the nice looking business people will be waiting in line for the evening news! Brilliant.

Would a MediaNet package be incompatible with PDA browsing as well? I ask because I use it with my current Treo 650, and as a mobile PDA browser, I have access to it.

one guy covered it, so it gets media attention of "who stood in line all day" it will be used to hype the product (especially summer slow news day every local outlet will have some related story about it)

Object-X What is that in Zune time?

No MMS is my biggest complaint...

Here's mine:

No way am I paying an additonal $40 on top of my current plan. I've been all for this thing, drawbacks and all. However, if that's what's in store, I will happily pass and chuckle at those that would spend $600 and have to lock into a plan like that.. with no regrets.

There is a line.

I'll hope it's not true.

And if you have ProCare or whatever it's called, you can make an appointment 14 days in advance. But I doubt if there's a line they'll be yelling out names for people who made a Personal Shopping session.

There's a big difference between ProCare and Personal Shopping as far as what I can determine from visiting the site. http://www.apple.com/retail/

If you have ProCare, you have an option of choosing "Advanced Reservations", which allows you to schedule appointments for technical support at the Genius Bar up to 14 days in advance. Well, I don't need to go to the Genius Bar.

If you choose Personal Shopping (NOT a part of ProCare) they claim it is
"the best way to learn about, and test drive new products, <it is> a face-to-face shopping appointment at the Apple Store."

When you click on Personal Shopping, you can book a reservation at your local store up to 14 days in advance. You are then given a choice from the "family" of products you would like to test drive - right now, the only choices are, of course, Apple TV, iPod, or Mac.

My assuption is that the iPhone will join that list. My only question is, will it join the list 14 days ahead of the 29th, or will they wait until the 27th, as hinted at by an earlier post? This would be the way to go.....:)

That is pure BS. I have a Treo 600 that they also claim is not compatible with MediaNet unlimited although I pay $20 a month it works fine. If they refuse to give it to you in the store you just order it online.

Apple has released quite a few products on Friday at 6pm. Tiger, the iPod, and so forth.

Things I got from talking to well informed, and (in a position to say) Apple employees:

*Cingular Stores will be closing or at least trying to keep traffic out (at busy stores) from 4pm - 6pm. This is so they can setup the displays, check SKUs and so forth without any employees selling a single phone early. Employees knows that Friday the 29th (in their minds) will be close at 4pm open at 6pm.

*Ordering Online will most likely not get you the iPhone for 4-5 days even WITH overnight shipping

*Go with Apple Stores, they get more stock (at least 2x) because Apple wants iPhone curious public to see what Macs are all about (maybe getting them interested)

*You can go a little early and wait around, while they won't give you many details at 5pm, you can let Apple employees know you are there and waiting to get your iPhone. This is a good strategy because they will know why you are there, and hopefully it will be considered "a place in line" till a real line forms

Well I have 3 apple stores within a 25 mile radius of me so I have to pick one to go to and start camping out! Just not sure if I should do it a few days or a week before! I wonder if the volume at the Cupertino store next to the campus will be nuts or if they would have more stock as that is another option! Choices choices!

In re to the SMS/MMS. Don't most cell phones have their own "email" address anyways? All of my friends have actual email addresses to their phone so couldn't you just send that image or song to that address just like you would with an MMS? Correct me if Im wrong but I thought that was the simple explanation.

6pm on June 29th would be a great time to buy.

However I am in the UK and yet again (still waiting for movie downloads in iTunes) we UK'ers are left waiting for ages beyond those of you in the US.

When when when will Apple release something in the UK at the same time as the US? Are we that insignificant a part of the market that we get forgotten about?

2 things. First, that in no way helps if people send you one.

And second, the MMS size limit is 100kb, so you are going to need someone to downsize those nice 2MP images, in phone (oh wait, but there are no apps for it...)

Why don´t you ... ?

I really don´t understand why you don´t open up an US ITMS account ... it will be so much cheaper for you as well ... I´m in Germany and I have one ... without a US creditcard ;o)

Write me a message if you wanna know how it works

I can't belive it's got now MMS. I've had MMS since 2003 on my Sony Ericsson T610i.
I'll be waiting for the 3G version in Europe. My contract runs out in January so by then, the iPhone should be out.

They'll probably skip the first generation one in europe.
