I am a little underwhelmed I must admit. The OS 3.0 upgrade will do me for now on my existing 3G. The one feature that came out today that I truly thought 'that's useful/cool' is the compass & positioning feature on maps. The rest....hmmm.

What I am personally waiting for are the following features:

1. A Flash of some kind for low-light photograpjy
2. Some kind of digital zoom (I really miss that from my old Sony Ericsson)
3. A front facing camera for video chats (even if between iPhones on same network would be a cool step forward)
4. A way to better group apps together (having a gazilion pages to scroll through is becoming tedious. Some kind of nested view a ala Finder/folders would really help)

For those of you that don't already know, the GM (or final release) version of 3.0 was leaked in the torrents. If you don't want to wait you can easily download it through torrents and install it on your phone. It's the exact same one that will be released next Wed.

Just avoid the trojans.

voice command

its complete bull that voice command isnt included in the 3.0 there is no reason that a 3G or even the original iPhone cant have voice controls I get that they want to sell phones and need to put new features but this should not be one of them y punish the people that have been loyal and already bought a phone!?!? im pissed!

I hope all of you know, aside from all the new crazy new things we saw at the WWDC 09 today, even things that were supposed to just be software wise that became like a huge keynote demonstrating new hardware etc, that they didn't even mention Steve Jobs or even update on him for us, let alone for Steve Jobs coming on stage at least.

I don't care about all these features and new things, and its kind of making alot of people seem spoiled that they don't get MMS, WHICH they survived without it perfectly fine. :/

I mean by the time you want to send a picture to someone that you just couldn't at that PARTICULAR moment, you would have already met/seen that person and showed them yourself.

And LOL at the palm pre losing all its hype. I mean seriously what is so OMG about your facebook 'Tom' contact syncing with your google 'Tom' contact and forming it into 1 'Tom' contact? Are you that lazy and forgetful that you put Tom's email into facebook but not google? Synergy = overhyped. Some people don't even have a facebook, just to let you know.

countries/carriers offering tethering?

Does someone have a list of carriers that offer tethering with the iPhone and OS 3.0?

Thanks!

AT&T is basically charging some current customers full/near full price of a locked iPhone 3GS. Hilarious! All I want is for Apple to sell the damn thing unlocked, just like they have been doing in other countries. This is just pathetic. I don't mind paying full price for an unlocked phone, but Apple doesn't want my money.

As for MMS and tethering, looking at the carriers announced, Telkomsel (Indonesia) and Singtel (Singapore) are ready to support MMS and tethering at launch, but not AT&T? Just another proof that wireless market in the US is so backward, even compared to a developing country. Sad and pathetic.

Will iPhone OS 3.0 allow 1st gen users to record video even with a poor frame-rate? Or is that only available on the 3GS?

This is Apple. They, and any company really, would want to promote the new product as much as possible.

Video Software Upgrade

Okay – so given the new video function that is limited to the 3GS is a piece of software rather than a hardware upgrade – what are the odds that Apple releases it in a few months time for an additional upgrade fee as they have done in the past. $9.99 per added video functionality across all iPhones ever sold – that’s got to be an attractive proposition.

For once us European will have everything available on launch, MMS, Tethering...

It's really a shame for AT&T not to have it ready on time ! they are the main partner of Apple and can't even get thinks done on time

Huh?

The iPod touch is getting a software update, but that's all for now.

Gotta feel for you AT&T customers, I was not expecting this mess.

You're kidding, right. I have absolutely NO sympathy whatsoever for anyone who would have gotten in bed with AT&T. (Actually, Cingular is the brain within the black helmet) Anybody with half a brain knows what kind of company they are. If you decided to give them the money, and put up with their lousy network, piss poor customer service, and abusive pricing practices, you deserve what you got. Perhaps if all of you lemmings had left the iPhones on the shelves for the last two years Apple would have gotten the message and moved to a decent carrier...?

Finally, Semitic language support

At long last, the software supports right-to-left Semitic languages, most importantly Arabic. It has been so annoying for the past 9 months to have to take notes in Arabeeze using the English keyboard + numbers to represent the sounds in Arabic that don't exist in English.

Hopefully the translation and dictionary apps in the app store will be updated to reflect this so that they show Arabic ligatures properly connected instead of comically separated.

I'll pay the $10 for that all by itself. The search features are pretty good, I guess.

"Find my iPhone" or "Big Brother is watching you!"

The "Find my iPhone" feature is nice. I am so glad AT&T didn't break that function.

Am I too paranoid? With this feature
- Apple knows constantly where you are (and it can pass this info on to anyone)
- Apple has constantly root access to your iPhone (or how do you think the data can be wiped?)

Cool feature, but then again...

The chances are ZERO because it is a h/w limitation. The current 3G phone can't do 30fps.

Everyone needs to do this

I'm a small business owner. I've been waiting for tethering.

I've excused Apple's delay with tethering and MMS since the iPhone is a new platform, and I think they have done an amazing job with it. Good things come in time.

We have known about 3.0 for a long time. It has been tested. It will soon be available.

Where has AT&T been? Why are they PURPOSEFULLY not allowing features that Apple has built into this phone.

I have called AT&T to file a complaint.

You should too.

AT&T: 1-888-333-6651

Call and give 'em hell.

Enough angry customers = results.

This is what everyone here complaining needs to do. Call AT&T and let them know. There is power in numbers. This is unacceptable and you need to speak up.

Dude... It's Apple, they're cool. Microsoft are the evil ones here, they want to take over the world!

</sarcasm>

Just wondering: how does one get the birthday subscriptions in iCal onto the iPhone using MobileMe? They're there on my MobileMe-iCal page, but not visible on my iPhone running the latest 3.0 GM build.

my blackberry friends are gonna laugh at me when they find out this new launch STILL isn't gonna include MMS. they're gonna laugh even harder when they find out i STILL have to wait. thank you at&t.

the blackberry is a joke, with the exception of email where it is still the clear winner of any device, it's a moribund os, glommed on to a mediocre phone desperately trying to stay relevant in a market that is increasingly leaving it behind. RIM is always several steps behind because they're a mobile email company trying to keep up with devices that are really becoming mobile computers.

they'll survive for a long time because they're so entrenched in government and fortune 500's, but at a consumer level i don't think they'll be much more than a bit player within 5-10 years.

Rogers spokesperson Keith McArthur (@keithmcarthur) is tweeting Roger/Fido iPhone details:
The Tweetrelease:

Both Rogers Wireless and Fido will offer iPhone 3GS starting June 19.
Rogers/Fido pricing is $199 for 16GB iPhone 3GS; $299 for 32GB iPhone 3GS on a three-year voice and data plan.
8GB version of the iPhone 3G will drop to $99 on June 19 at Rogers and Fido with a three-year voice and data plan.
Rogers is reintroducing the $30/6GB data plan for iPhones effective tomorrow, June 9. Offer available for a limited time.

no upgrades from 3G to 3GS allowed

3 year contract is unacceptable

Thanks man! I only wish we'll have tethering at no extra cost with a 6GB data plan!

My idea: 100 min. day (bill. per sec.) + unlim. SMS (MMS?), call night/week-end + 6 GB data plan + VVM + Caller ID = 65$ CAD
