Geah!

Wow. Makes you wonder what is in the works considering that they just dropped the iPad. I wonder if they will shutup all the negative people that complained about lack of certain features.

I don't care about third-party app multitasking that much, as Apple provided apps already run in the background, but it wouldn't hurt.

Calendar needs some improvement though. Right now, if I have more than two events in one day, I get no visual clue that there are more to see if I scroll down. Clicking on Location of an event should take me to Google Maps as well. Event Notifications also need a better interface, but otherwise, I am happy with the existing OS.

Something tells me this wont run on the first iPhone, possibly not the iPhone 3G either, in which case I'm out of luck but that's okay because I'm defiantly getting the next iPhone.
I am going broke. Too many great products coming out so close together. But i have had every version of the iPhone so i am sure i will have this one too. :)

The iPad will be updated to 4.0 at the same time as the iPhone.

Yep iPhone 3.2 was just a stop gap measure to get the iPad out in a timely manner. Us developers will probably get beta access on Thursday to 4.0. I expect 4.0 to come out in the June/July time frame.

Kill HTC EVO hype?

Is it possible Apple rushed this to kill the hype surrounding the HTC EVO?

what's it called?

Still think iPhone OS is an odd name for its application?

One OS to rule them all

Didn't the iPad's home screen look a little lame to you? Widely spaced icons, no change from the tiny iPhone screen? Did the lack of multitasking seem odd, especially when you saw how an iPhone app looks on the iPad - tiny, like you could fit four of them on the screen at the same time with no trouble? Did you wonder what happened to CoverFlow? Did you wonder why they said an update to 4.0 would be free?

Developers saw right off that OS 3.2 was odd. It wouldn't run on iPhones, in fact you couldn't develop iPhone software on it, only iPad stuff. Clearly it was a one-off for iPad development. Whatever the next development system version would be, would be the "real" one for the longer term. That's 4.0.

Steve addresses the invited group of reporters: "Ladies and gentleman, you know that iPad everyone just bought? It's about to get a lot better. For everyone. For free. And so are the iPhones. Welcome to OS 4.0!"

In my opinion the only notification that needs to be modal is the "you have a phone call" notification (this includes SIP/VOIP calls as well). Every other notification needs to somehow go in a queue that can be looked at later instead of forcing the user to do something right then and there.

Example. If I am playing a movie or a game the only disruptions I should have are phone calls. If I get a text message alert me but allow me to dismiss it and go back to what I was doing while still showing me that I need to do something later. As it is now I feel like I have to either answer the question (if it was a text) right then and there otherwise I risk forgetting about the text. My other peeve is push notifications do not stack. They need to.

Oh and App developers should be forced to save state. That shouldn't be an option. It is irritating to use an app (say GTA:CW) get a phone call, switch to said call, deal with it, switch back to GTA:CW and find myself back at a safe house with all my progress lost. It appear that very few of the games I have actually save where you are (it seems like none of them do).

Neeed a better, more customizable lock screen. This is supposed to be an A+ udpate. My only guess now is how will they piss me off this time? They always leave something out to keep the rumor sites alive I guess.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

More than multitasking, more than any new feature, all I want is a way to lock orientation!! Especially for Safari!!
The new iPhone may or may not have a physical button (like the iPad) that does it, but for the first three iPhone models, users need a way in settings to turn off landscape orientation!!

I really hope that is not the only announcement. That would be a letdown for me. They need to make the iPad it'd own device.
