I've noticed a bit of multitasking going on, I have been in my settings menu left and when I go back later it opens at the last screen I was at instead of the normal way it would open the settings

While in an app, use the switcher to go to any other app.

Thank you - I see that now. I guess I am so used to going to home screen I never have tried switching from one app to the other from inside an app - this multi-task thing is going to take some getting used to!!!!

I wonder if it's not a bug but that Apple isn't allowing it based on the device not being powerful enough...which we all know is a load of ****.

Now for everyone else - is the camera broken on all devices with 4.0b2 on it?

How is the camera broken? The photos app is broken so the camera, safari, and other apps can't save to it.

Yes it appears so.

I had an issue with my car connection (Lexus USB) this morning, just stopped responding to it. That and the camera issues are the only things I've noticed so far.

I can use photos, just not the camera app.

I should've said that there are a number of apparently broken apps across the OS that are simply not working because of changes made to the Photos app. Screenshots, for example.*

Why does this forum add an * when i paste something in from notes. Weird.

For those of you using IMAP for their mail, has Apple introduced the IDLE extension which immediately sends a notification when there is a change in a folder (ie new mail).

My mail provider offers IMAP and offers the IDLE extension and I get notified, without any fetch command, instantaneously of new mail. My old Sony Ericsson K790a of a few years ago supported that.

Are you sure that is working?

Hmm...what is this new wallpaper setting screen?

Does it now allow multiple wallpaper for different pages? (Not just home screen/lock screen) or does it allow movement of the background once we scroll through the pages? (like on Android?)

So far tons more problems with beta 2 then beta 1. On my 3G it wouldn't boot while plugged in. Several crashes. Very slow. And at time unresponsive.

Ugh. Oh well. It is a beta after all. :)

this was in beta 1.

Not quite the same way. Beta 1 doesn't allow me to stay in the same spot. I have to reopen a game anytime I want to switch to it.

Beta 2 however the game resumes at the exact same spot it was closed at.

I then switched back to beta 1 to confirm this. Also, in beta 2, the apps that werent working like Espgaluda 2 (excellent game!) are now working again.

Also in Beta 2 try turning to airplane mode, or turning on and off 3G, it wont work.

I read that if you do not update the beta firmware to the newest one (in this case Beta 2), iPhone will stop responding few days after you ignored the "upgrade firmware" warnings. Is this true? If so, how can the iPhone knows when to stop IF you do not sync with iTunes? Any input here?

Am I sure that is the case with my mail provider? 100%

I am not sure exactly what your question was but in any event here is a link to IMAP IDLE for others who may be interested.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAP_IDLE

This works outstandingly well.

My email server (which I run myself) supports IMAP idle.
I see instant updates on the desktop mail clients.

Not seeing this on my phone though.

There are no upgrade firmware warnings. You have to download a separate file from your developer account and manually do it. iTunes knows nothing about whether or not there is an update available for the beta versions. As for when it blacks out on you, that's a tricky question. Not sure

This is from Gizmodo so I got confused because I've never heard it before.

@John Mirusso: Firmware expires?

@tande04: I had it happen on vacation 3600 miles away from my iTunes
library, not fun.

@thechansen: I don't even understand what it means.

@tande04: if a newer beta firmware is released, a killswitch is turned
on. At that point you have just a few days to upgrade. If you don't
your phone is bricked until you download the new beta OS.

@thechansen: Ah.

Yeah I've heard of the betas expiring but not sure how it works on the backend. The bugs in beta 2 aren't that serious unless you REALLY need your camera so I would just be safe and upgrade. Currently my list of gripes:

- App Store: Can download new apps perfectly fine but cannot update apps over WiFi; instead it says I need to connect to a WiFi network (haven't tried this on 3G)

- Camera & Camera Roll: Cannot take screenshots or camera images. Both do the action (i.e. screenshot -- screen flashes and camera -- virtual shutter closes) but never actually save anything to the Camera Roll. And I cannot click into the Camera Roll either.

- Sometimes applications freeze when I come back to them (mostly in Mail). All I need to do to resolve it is quit back to home screen and come back and then it's fine. Most annoying issue for me right now.

- When receiving a call the image of the person is enlarged for some reason and then returns to the normal once in the call. Strange but will be fixed.

- iTunes syncing issues---sometimes it decides it cannot write to the iPhone, sometimes it can't read from the iPhone. I'm not sure if this is my phone or my computer as I just not a new iMac and I haven't heard many people discussing this issue (I had this behavior in 4.0b1 as well).

I think that's all I have for now.

New GPS icon next to battery and bluetooth icon

When the phone is using location services a new little gps icon pops up on the top of the screen. Not sure if this was mentioned or not. And not sure if this was already present in B1. Just hadnt noticed it until I was doing a little app testing this morning.

Yup that was present in b1. I like the icon, looks cool.

Yeah the "Real developers" get pissed when they see people install the betas like me "non-developer". However, that's my/our decision but if Apple actually makes a worse beta (most people say this), why would you want to install even you are the "real developer". That's just does not make any sense to me. Why not a better beta?

The fact that there are bugs does not make it worse. Most devs don't need the camera to work perfectly but there were APIs added as well as other tools that devs can use in beta 2 that were non-existent in beta 1,
